That's not even half of it. The girl in question was an alcoholic who had a history of getting blacked out drunk and going home/out with different men. She was conscious (well as conscious an incredibly inebriated person can be) when the cops showed and didn't pass out till she was in their cruiser. The issue is that defamation and damages charge laid would be predicted on there being a false accusation conviction. Not that they can't but it would be an up hill battle. I think we have to careful not to condemn outdated traditional practices and the tradition itself.
