Honestly I didn’t have the self respect to go after the girl I wanted because I was scared. I had lots of excuses but it came down to lack of courage. I’ll always regret that one. If she had said no I’d be ok but never having the guts to ask gnaws at your soul.

Huge plus for me. I have huge respect for women who have worked hard to get professional degrees and have succeeded in the modern workplace despite glass ceiling, etc. I like knowing I won’t have to provide for them and that they can be ok on their own. This is informed by past clingy, needy relationships that went poorly. I also know that any love we have for each other won’t be based in financial need or motivation. Lastly it’s nice to have two large incomes in one household.

This is quality advice. One of the best pieces of advice I got out of this sub is that if you take care of yourself, people will want to be near you. Self-confidence radiates positivity, and people are drawn to that.

I did this for a while and don't have objections. One thing I wish I had done is treat the women better. Several times I was not intending a relationship but they were and i let it go on too long. It's fine to be hedonistic, but be honest and don't hurt people.

Woman want a connection, often need to feel a connection, to be aroused. If you don't want a connection and just sex, sometimes that can be too obvious. Maybe don't try so hard to get laid and try working on developing connections.

Is your goal getting laid or having a good time? These are not always the same.

I know guys that look like crap but treat women with respect and they could easily do this. They might not get laid as a result since they look gross (long nails, unkempt hair, overweight), but I've seen them engage with beautiful women in conversation many times. All people like respectful conversation. If the other person dismisses someone based on looks alone they're not worth talking to.

Hard to turn off that part of the brain, though. Thing that has helped me the most is to pretend they do the one thing I can't stand in a partner. For me, that's smoking (my mom used to smoke and it was wretched).

Yeah, but not necessarily bars. Join clubs, meetups, etc. where it's more relaxed and you can actually talk to people.

Wait till you're in your late 20's and all the "ugly", nice girls from high school are gorgeous, confident professionals looking to catch up on romance. Meanwhile the "hot" girls from high school are on their second kid and are getting into MLMs.

I had a "friend" in college who knew I was hooking up with this cute girl. She was definitely his type, but I figured since we were all friends, he'd show some respect. We all went to a club one night and I walk in on him trying to sweet talk her despite her sending clear signals she wasn't interested. I pulled her away and we danced, so it was fine that night. But man, I never forgot what this guy tried to pull. Fast forward, and a few years later I'm in a work group with this guy. Better belie…

I'm an engineering grad student and I do just fine. I don't work crazy long hours ("only" ~50-70hrs/week), partly because it's grad school (where you can set your own hours) and my advisor doesn't give a shit as long as I make some incremental progress. I spend a lot of time working out outside of lab, so I look fine. Not great, but fine. I'm not the most fun person in the world, but I do make an effort. I get on OKC occasionally, set up a few dates, and eventually get where I want to go. It tak…

i really wish there were Yelp ratings on the loudness of bars. i would choose exclusively the ones in which you can have conversations.

I do this and it works wonders. Also, it's important to have a good pic of yourself, not to put too much text in the profile, and not to take yourself too seriously in the text.

try this: Arrogance is believing you're better than everyone else. Confidence is believing everybody's awesome, including yourself.

"The dumbest line spoken with confidence is better than the greatest quote of all times barely stuttered out by a sweating, socially incapacitated nerd." What a great summation of all political history.

I'll vouch for the second approach. Getting healthy in mind and body w/ exercise, sleep, and therapy has done wonders for me.

It's likely that you're not that creepy but that people telling you you're creepy has led you to project what you've been told you are. Fuck that shit. Just be yourself.

dude, if she's lying to you, then you've got a serious issue w/ the relationship, imo.

I think I need some clarification. Where's the line between passing a shit test and being rude? The "Can you do this for me" shit test response to me sounds just rude... nevermind. i just realized that you only use these responses in a shit-test cricumstance, not when she's actually asking for help. this is gold. thanks!

yeah, especially since he has no idea whether the chick read his profile or not. he sunk all that time into fake FB profiles, and would've had better luck going to a bar and sarging.

switch colleges. you can usually transfer "up" if your grades are good. or go take classes w/ lots of premeds.

no offense intended. i work in science, so i get irritable when people pile on jargon and things become hard to read.

yeah. piling on jargon to sound impressive is annoying as hell.

i tried this, and got friendzoned hard. i became just the running buddy almost immediately, but then again, she had a bf at the time and i didn't really make any moves. if you do this, move quickly.

Any advice for dressing "well" for beginners?

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
