Patriarchy is often understood as a system in which men have absolute authority and women are largely excluded from positions of power Idk about that, even in the Google definition it refers to males being the head in family matters, not just in governmental positions. I think toxic remnants of this still exist in countries like India, for example.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates16/11/21 06:08 AM
1

Patriarchy doesn't just mean women excluded from positions of power though, right? It means the domination of men as a whole in various matters in our society. This system is weakening, but still not dead. I think the subjugation of women in domestic households, for one, can be counted as a result of the patriarchal system. But my original point wasn't about that either. My point was that MSM has done a great job on highlighting how patriarchy has given privileges to men and how that has affecte…

What about women in some countries being forced to be housewives and serve their husbands and not keep a toe out of their line? You're making the same mistake as some feminists have, you're determining the well-being of a group on the basis of their most successful members.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates15/11/21 10:24 AM
1

That's not true. Remnants of this ideology still exist in some parts of the world, both the good and the bad parts.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates15/11/21 10:05 AM
1

The term by itself should mean a world run by men imo. Then what it should also mean is a world run, managed, built, maintained, and protected by men. Currently however, the term is used with heavy gynocentrism. But it could be used more neutrally, I think, in a way that encompasses all aspects of "man's rule" and not just the bad parts.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates15/11/21 04:22 AM

I would say there are gendered privileges observed on both sides. And I did say it was an aging system.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates14/11/21 06:41 AM

Patriarchy defines an aging system run by men more or less, but is not necessarily a privilege for men. Evidence is through real-world and online experiences, which I can't properly pinpoint and show you. It's alright if people don't agree with me, I'll take the downvotes. I agree with this post either way.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates14/11/21 04:43 AM

Hmm, I guess what I mostly had in mind when I said this was thought of in the general sense, outside of the Titanic, of the husbands and fathers who willingly served as heroes to their families and loved ones, not by the literal sacrifice of their lives, but by their lifelong commitment to safeguard the well-being of their families. I feel like it is a significant part of the patriarchal system and yet it is seldom acknowledged amidst all the man-blame.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates13/11/21 08:56 AM
1

Absolutely not. I was going along the lines of "Feminists think of patriarchy as a privilege that was misused by men in the past, when in reality it also required men to be heroes and to lay down or sacrifice their lives for their loved ones' sakes". I wasn't trying to say that that system should still continue, I was only highlighting the sometimes unseen and ignored side of patriarchy which wasn't a privilege for men.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates13/11/21 07:49 AM
1

Do you not see the context in which I used it? I called patriarchy a burden as well, and that is definitely NOT part of feminist teaching. I was not refuting this post, I was supporting it. Edit: edit
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates13/11/21 12:58 AM
-4

People often focus on the evil and oppressing side of the patriarchy while not even considering the good side of the patriarchy, of the decent men who would be willing to lay down their lives for their loved ones. People see patriarchy as an empowerment but never as the burden that it also is.

This sub's hivemind(in the comments) varies constantly. This is not "stooping to their level". We're just pointing out the ridiculousness of the shit they do on Father's Day(which I wasn't much aware of till now, thank you OP). Even the #KAM movement was pretty much the same thing; if I'm not mistaken, it was also pointing out the ridiculousness of some stupid statement, I think. It wasn't meant to be taken seriously. Discussing such a big decision is the proper thing to do, I don't quite like the fact that the mother can just kill the baby without even asking the father or despite the father wanting the baby so much. Abortion is already a controversial topic and it would be bad if it wasn't done with full consent of both parents. I do understand that fathers and mothers are not entirely equal in the sense that it is the mother who has to carry the baby for 9 months, not the father, so my opinions aren't fina…
/r/MensRights22/02/21 08:24 AM
3

I agree, but not all the way. The father is also an equal parent, and while it is the mother that is having the baby, shouldn't the father have some form of say on what happens to it? This is of course factoring in things like the risk of pregnancy fatality, on whether it was rape, etc. Just want to know your thoughts.

I don't even identify as a feminist, you fucking donkey. The only subs I follow are all men-related. But I don't agree with "Feminism was nothing but satan" statements.

And yet I have a feeling that you mostly mean women 😂... okay, if you say so, sir. You're still a dumb fuck for thinking they're all the same.

"Lmao the founders, leaders, members past and present are all sexist" Misogny. You're believing that none of them, not even a single woman who's joined the group, is willing to do good, willing to bring true equality to the genders. No, you would just believe every single one of them to be "sexist".

It's you who needs to fuck off, misogynist.

The MRA as a whole has done nothing wrong. It is assholes like you who make it look wrong, because you're becoming the MRA equivalent of a toxic feminist who dehumanizes and generalizes the other group without ever bothering to humanize them. Please fuck off now, cause it's clear now that you're not an MRA but just a plain old misogynist.
/r/MensRights18/02/21 08:22 PM
1

Unfortunately. Can't have it any other way. Still, wish the general attitude in this sub was against such people. Misognistic comments get heavy flak in this sub. But anti-feminism doesn't get the same treatment. I believe that feminism shouldn't be free from criticism, but I don't believe in its complete embargo and nullification. Edit: By 'they' I didn't mean the whole sub, I was just using a gender neutral pronoun.
/r/MensRights18/02/21 07:50 PM
1

Yeah, this user's an asshole. Make the slightest comment against any MRA and they'll start calling you a misandrist. Edit: I meant 'they' as a reference to the person, not the whole group

I'll stand with and against feminism and MRA whenever needed. Why do I even bother replying to your dumb ass.

Misandristic feminist? All I'm asking you to do is to not generalize all feminists and that is your conclusion? What an absolute moron. I'll stay wherever the fuck I want. I'll keep standing with or against feminism and the MRA whenever needed. Meanwhile you can keep working on bringing down the reputation of this sub and the community as a whole. A**hole.

A concept in its inception won't be at it's perfect model, you fucking idiot. It is something that changes based on the environment it faces and the feedback it gets.
/r/MensRights18/02/21 07:10 PM

The fuck? If anything, it's the founders who will eventually be irrelevant, because as society changes people will change.

Feminism was and is ideally always about equality of the genders, and the toxic actions and words of some feminists won't change that.

I do understand that feminism has created hurdles for men's rights. But all feminists are not on the same foot in these matters. Leaders of a movement are not its sole voice.

Hmm, maybe I won't join them, I guess. Feminism shouldn't be free from criticism.
/r/MensRights18/02/21 05:20 PM

And you don't think there already are feminists within the group who speak against such things?! You're making rash generalizations in the exact same way a toxic feminist would about men.

Maybe I should consider joining that subreddit. But what is your opinion on the feminists there? How is the attitude there?
/r/MensRights18/02/21 03:35 PM

It's fine when it stays at criticism. But there are many on this sub who go overboard with it. That feminists may dehumanise men doesn't mean we should do the same.

This is definitely valid criticism of the feminist movement. But why do you guys always have to conclude it as "Feminism was nothing but satan" like disregarding completely of what feminism has done to uplift women who were oppressed? Do you think that 100% of feminists then, and now, will still try to shy away from such responsibilities? No! There might so many women willing to be drafted, willing to take up responsibility, or alternatively realising the drafting program is bullshit. There migh…

Wow, absolutely brilliant. These fuckers don't understand that they're setting the grounds for female rapists. Females with a rapist mentality are gonna be emboldened by such laws. If the number of female rapists is as low as they say it is, it is certainly gonna increase gradually through time.

Yes, in one way they do have a mental illness. I just hope you understand how hurtful that must sound to a transgender person. Cause if you don't you're just being insensitive. There are some things that don't need to be said.
/r/MensRights15/02/21 04:03 AM
1

This is not a "men telling women what to do" moment. This is where a "both parents have an equal say on what happens to the baby" moment. Yes it is the woman who delivers the baby after all but that doesn't allow you to completely dissolve the opinions of the other parent who was involved in enabling the pregnancy.
/r/MensRights14/02/21 11:55 AM
1

Good to know :)
/r/MensRights12/02/21 08:20 PM
1

Yup. I just hope that you don't generalize the whole sub, or the whole community for that matter, on the basis of this. Feminism isn't free of misandry either. There were a lot of feminist groups who opposed gender neutral laws for rape in India, for example. But I shouldn't judge the widely empowering movement that is feminism on the basis of that.
/r/MensRights12/02/21 08:13 PM
1

Uhhh... not sure if I'm stupid or you misunderstood me, but I meant to say that anti-feminism comments don't get the same treatment as misognistic comments.
/r/MensRights12/02/21 07:47 PM
1

What I'm saying is that they stressed on race, or culture as they called it. The misogynism was slightly diluted by the racism. I'm in no way defending them though. But I've seen comments where an idiot says something like "Women are X" and it usually gets downvoted and people criticise it. I've seen posts receive criticism and not getting as many upvotes for such reasons.
/r/MensRights12/02/21 07:44 PM
1

Which was not so much about the gender than it was race.
/r/MensRights12/02/21 07:25 PM

There is misogny, but they usually get downvoted a lot. Feminism doesn't nearly get the same treatment however. Edit:
/r/MensRights12/02/21 07:18 PM

The one thing I like about this sub is that it is definitely anti-misogynistic. But it's view on feminism is quite negative. We should certainly criticize feminists when they do wrong, but feminism as a whole need not be our enemy. As Cassie Jaye did for the MRA, so should we do for feminism: humanize our enemy.

There is nothing inherently wrong with feminism. It's certain feminists themselves that are ruining it's ideals. Logically, feminism should support MRAs.

But bad eggs exist in every community. Just as how r/mensrights will have misogynists, so will there be men-hating feminists. But I tell you not all feminists are men-hating and that the ideals of feminism stand for equality no matter what some toxic feminists may say. I'm alright with criticism of either community but not with the complete embargo of either.

Lol, sure, assume the worst of me. Typical of a Redditor. I'm a male too, if you didn't know. And I've met feminists who aren't necessarily evil spawns of satan as you depict them to be. Anyway, I'll let myself out. Edit: I'm fine with the criticism of the bad sides of feminism. But not with a complete embargo of the movement.
/r/MensRights22/12/20 01:02 AM

As I've said, the good comes with the bad. In a country where sexual assaults and patriarchal attitudes reign high, feminism is definitely needed and currently should keep it's momentum. Eventually, male voices will rise and protest, just as the females' did. They're already being raised, and there are feminists who support it; the feminist community has already developed a rift on this topic. The male side won't be ignored forever.
/r/MensRights21/12/20 06:09 PM
-5

I agree with you. Feminism is a much-needed movement in my country India. And despite the name, ideally, feminism wants equality for both sexes. I've seen feminist pages which also talk about men's issues. The MRA shouldn't be anti-feminist, it simply should be the voice that explicitly brings awareness about men's issues and maintains that both sexes must be equal.
/r/MensRights21/12/20 12:58 PM
-10

Sorry, downvoted. Being a part of the MRA does not mean to shit on feminists. The good comes with the bad, in any group of people.
/r/MensRights21/12/20 12:03 PM
1

I'm basing this off of my experience with feminist pages and accounts which also talk about men's issues(Eg: Men don't have to be tough, they can cry, etc.) But perhaps not as much as a Men's Rights page would do? You may be right.
/r/MensRights18/12/20 02:43 AM
0

My point was that there is nothing wrong with feminism, in its essence. A few powerful feminists are not and should not be the face of feminism. Us men shouldn't blatantly stand against feminism, we must join feminism and strive for our voices and issues to be more strongly heard, feminism is as they say a call for both sexes to be equal. We fight and protest for this in the same way women do for their issues.
/r/MensRights17/12/20 04:58 PM
1

Just believe in its ideals, and not in the inability of some feminists to properly demonstrate those ideals.
