It's still an accurate statement in this context. Sugar doesn't make you fat, fat doesn't make you fat, McDonald's doesn't make you fat. If you eat 800 calories of any of that every day, you will lose weight. Excess calories make you fat. That's a completely separate issue from what makes a balanced diet, do some foods affect your metabolism in a certain way, etc...

I have a very very layman hypothesis that it comes from our days as primitive primates. If the clan bully got embarrassed, it could only go badly later for those who didn't help him, or just in general because he'd be a dick for a few days to everyone. Rape cases can take months for the justice system to process. During those months the victim may be in classes with the accused or have other close contact inadvertently. Universities needs some system in place to deal with these kinds of things immediately. I think the best solution would be some combination of the two.
