The fact that those things happened doesn’t make them automatically fair, this the saying is not an axiom to live by. I wouldn’t describe a waiter as being manipulated by a patron. That’s about as straightforward an interaction as possible unless you want to talk about capitalism as a system (not relevant to an individual patron).
