I think it should be required to be shot with pepper spray before you are allowed to carry it. Shits no joke

At that point you've already been shot down. Might as well make it seem like it's on your terms and move on

EDIT: Roger, got it. Apparently this was wrong. I want to leave it up so that other people know that it was wrong. I'm no expert (I'm also kind of an asshole), but I would have said something like "Really, you're gonna start texting while we're in the middle of a conversation?" Generally speaking, she would try to apologize and make excuses for being rude. Then SHE is trying to make ME like HER, instead of the other way around.

Take charge. Learn some routes and suggest the group follow them. Talk to girls but lose the friendly overtones. Let the girls you talk to know that you want sex/ romance/ whatever it is you really want. Be confident, take a leadership role, be fun, be in the moment. Basically all the stuff you are supposed to do anyway, but on a bike instead of standing up. By the way, where are these bike rides?

I like your style. Bar games (shuffleboard, darts, etc) are pretty big up here so that could be a good transition.

That's fucking genius, and a great second step. I'll absolutely remember this once i get a good group going.

I'm actually a 2LT. I was lucky to work at Brigade for a while so I got to know a lot of other 2LT's who went to different Battalions than the one I'm in now, so that's helpful. I don't want my entire social network to be contained within work though, and I'm looking to expand out a little bit and make some civilian friends. Good advice though, it's appreciated.

Yes! That might be my main issue with going out to the bars by myself. I tend to head out around 10 o'clock when everyone is starting to congeal into groups. Thanks for the insight.

That's been on my list for some time. Definitely gonna look up places to do that in the city.

I've messaged other sedditors from the map, all of them said they were out of the game for one reason or another. I could give that another shot though. I went on OKC and POF both, had a bad experience with both of them (especially POF). I did my best, got advice on sending the right messages, and after two months all it did was give me a sort of Facebook Effect where I would get a little 'buzz' off getting replies and have a sort of 'withdraw' when there were no replies. Went on a few dates, no…

I've tried this before, with mixed results. I love going to hostels and trying to make friends that way and it's really easy and really fun. The problem is (predictably) everyone goes away after a day or two. My usual strategy is go to a hostel, buy a bunch of beer, meet some cool people, go out to the bars together. It works well, but again, the people leave too soon. When I go to the bars by myself, I guess I give off a creepy vibe or something. I ask people questions, joke around, etc. but I …

They all just got back from a deployment to Kandahar (I got to the unit too late to deploy), so they're pretty fucking tight right now

I tried meetup for a while. I don't like their way of doing things. Instead of just letting you go to meetups, you have to become a member of the group first. Then you start getting emails every time someone in the group farts, and even when you uncheck all the boxes, your preferences reset every three days or so. But thanks for the tip, maybe I'll give it another try.

At first I kind of thought you were being a dick about monogamy, but then I read the article and you pretty much summed it up. Sorry for thinking you were being a dick.

Too low on money for food from a grocery store? If you need something completely free, you could use your meal plan to grab food and bring it outside or just take a walk. If you don't need to be outside, invite her to a party (that you know you won't have to stand in line for).

Well, seems like you already know the right answer but you're afraid to pull the trigger. Nut up and go for it EDIT: Also, get her phone number and develop a more personal/ non-group relationship with her but avoid being the nice guy friend. Or just forget about her, or bite the bullet.

22 year old guy here. I was hooking up with a girl who was 9 years older than me for a while. 2 years isn't "older than you." You're in the same age group. Her being slightly older is irrelevant in this case. The big thing to worry about is how your friend will react. Run it by him first to make sure he's ok with it. I had a friend who once locked himself in a bathroom, screaming for hours and breaking shit because someone made out with his sister at a party. Granted, that's extreme. But still. …

I will take full responsibility for being a douchebag toward you. But at this point, I'm not trying to convince you so much as i am just trying to see what your point even is. You say you want cold, hard, numbers. What numbers? What data and statistics do you want? It's impossible to know what you're talking about. I'm taking personal responsibility for trying to change my worldview against what society has told me is appropriate. Yes, society plays a massive role in how people view the world. T…

I AM taking personal responsibility, by reading a book that will help me to undo the wrong lessons that I have been taught.

Yes I see how it works both ways. But I don't see your point on that. No matter which way you see it, it's the same exact point. What did you mean by that? And what the FUCK numbers do you want to see? What would numbers about anything actually prove? Come on man, you don't make any sense

Because we live in a society that advocates hiding your feelings. If you make a big sale, you have to remain calm instead of dancing around, which you may feel like doing. If you cry after something tragic happens, you're a pussy. People who show affection and genuine care for you are either too attached or are just crazy in general. This book says, "Hey, it's alright to show that you give a shit about other people. Since you may be out of practice after hiding it for decades, here's a helpful h…

I have had a discussion with this guy, I will sum up his perspective for everyone else. 1) He hasn't read the whole book so he doesn't really know what it advocates. Even though it advocates being genuinely interested in people and changing your entire mentality toward others, this guy seems to think it's about lying through your teeth and using cheap 'social hacks' to manipulate people. 2) He was lucky enough to grow up in an environment that fostered these social skills naturally. So, everyone…

Then you're confused. Dale Carnegie advocates ACTUALLY giving a shit, not pretending. Maybe you would have a firmer grasp if you actually read it, instead of shitting all over it because you instantly disliked the concept.

It's not cherry picking when you completely and illogically contradict your own opinion on a very fundamental level. I can see RIGHT through it when people are genuinely kind to me and interested in me; that's why I surround myself with people who are genuinely kind to me and interested in me. It makes sense, stop insulting my intelligence.

And I'll bet, that when these people are engaged with you and follow your lead, you feel pretty good about yourself and the other person? If anyone tried this psychological manipulation on me, i'd just walk away. Give me a break, I can see right through people like this. -You, about 30 minutes ago Chapters of the book: Become genuinely interested in other people. Smile. Be a good listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves. Talk in terms of the other person's interest. Make the other per…

This turned out to be a pretty big wall of text but I hope it helps you. I was in the same situation as you this summer, man. The same exact situation. I'm an army dude and I was on a post called Fort Leonard Wood for a four month training course. The post and the surrounding area was easily 85% dudes, and the women off-post were so jaded by living near Soldiers that they were basically off limits. In my class we had about 10 females, four of them bangable, and one of those girls was single. So …

I'm not gonna lie, from what i can tell your "different kind of attraction" is classic one-itis. Go balls to the wall until she literally tells you to stop talking to her, then move on. That's what this community is all about. That's what I did this summer and ended up getting the girl. The only cute, single girl in my class that had about 20 single dudes.

Is this a serious post? "Please rate my text message before I send it out?" The answer is fucking send it and hope it works. If it doesn't, oh well. Get another girls phone number and send another text.

It advises that you not spend any money at all. If for whatever reason you must spend money, keep it cheap and pay the tab. I'm sure you already understand that. Not all of the advice is made to be used simultaneously. This is more of an 'if-then' map.

From How to Win Friends and Influence People, you're supposed to get the other person talking about themselves, and their interests, for them to like you and be comfortable with you. So the first point is pretty good. I saw on the OKCupid blog that a man's past relationships are among a woman's lest preferred topics to discuss. Not sure how scientifically rigorous that was though. Being sexual is an obvious one for people who are knowledgeable on what this community teaches. Paying the tab shows…

I would dance near her, have a blast dancing, and then she would generally start to kind of back into me. A light tap on the hip and next thing you know, BOOM, we're dancing together. From there, keep your hands on her hips, start to lead her movements, run your hands down her thighs and her sides, be real sensual about it. My patented move is to run my fingers down her arms and interlock fingers with her in a position that is akin to reverse hand-holding.
