A good number of his ex-girlfriends, his ex-wives, his children and many long time friends came out in his defense and spoke of his good character. None of this helped ameliorate the damage of Heard’s accusations. This despite a number of her exes coming forward and accusing her of being an abuser herself. To be fair, local programming is determined by local affiliates in NPR, not dictated from the top down. More regional and local programming is the responsibility of the local and regional stations. Cultures where female circumcisions are extreme have male circumcisions that are as extreme, unsafe and as painful. The axiomatic reason for male circumcision in America was that it supposedly prevented masturbation. In this light the reasoning for male circumcision is the same as that you cite for female circumcision.

I'd go as far to say that in at least one culture (the Nandi Kalenjin tribe in Kenya) circumcision is comparably brutal and torturous for both sexes and yet one never hears about the male circumcision ritual. The details of the male age-set ritual are usually eluded and glossed over if they're even mentioned at all in the first place while the specifics of the Kalenjin female preparation for marriage ritual are described graphically and in great detail.

My objection to the concept of objectification lies within its strong ties to the concept of "The Male Gaze." I no longer accept the demonization of the male sexual drive. Violation does seem more apt and doesn't carry the baggage of the concept of objectification. This is a digression admittedly and I do support the main thrust of the OP.

I have anecdotal experience of this argument with a friend. She was complaining about getting cat called and approached on the street. Which is fine, it is no doubt an unpleasant experience for her. She, however, switched gears and started excoriating the men in her life for not stepping up and doing something about it. She suggested we should confront the men and shut down their behavior. You are aware that the vast majority of "volunteers" for US military service are doing so because they see it as their only chance for a college education or are serving for their chance at American citizenship? They likely aren't aware of the realities of warfare until it's too late to back out. This logic also only applies to modern combatants in First World countries and is immaterial for the vast majority of combat casualties and most military service outside of the First World.

Some of them have already graduated from college and taken that culture into the workplace. It's also clear that Tumblrisms are exerting an influence on a portion of the media right at this moment.
