Three years after divorce - alternative pointMy friends didn't say much after the 2nd week post separation. I really needed support but didn't want to reach out to them. My therapist told me to do it. Have the balls to be vulnerable, reach out to friends and let them know I was hurting. I did and they were amazing. They stuck with me throughout the really rough times. This helped me more than anything. So I would say Yes, reach out to your friends when you need support. It's important. They don't know how to react, but it you tell them you… | /r/Divorce_Men | 21/07/26 12:45 PM

Felt like I was doing better, than saw a picture of my ex downtown...I am 8 months out. Our divorce should be finalized this week. The emotions have been all over the place for me. I finally hit the anger stage 2 months ago and I think I have processed it and am moving on. But man, every time we run into each other it sets me back. | /r/Divorce_Men | 24/06/26 09:46 PM
Felt like I was doing better, than saw a picture of my ex downtown...You have to sit in your feelings. Process and forgive yourself. Then you can move on. But it is difficult. I know that for sure. | /r/Divorce_Men | 24/06/26 05:16 PM
Felt like I was doing better, than saw a picture of my ex downtown...I completely get that feeling. It does set you back. Ugh...divorce is hard on ao many levels. | /r/Divorce_Men | 24/06/26 05:05 PM

Can I claim owed taxes as a liability when dividing assets? We already received the dividends. Just missed the yesr end statement. So we amended the return and then he insisted I pay half. I spokenwith my attorney who said legally taxes are considered community debt and we would have to split it 50/50 as that is what Louisiana Law requires. I would check with your attorney or the mediator. | /r/Divorce_Men | 20/06/26 12:17 AM
Can I claim owed taxes as a liability when dividing assets?A week before my divorce was finalized my STBX amended our 2024 tax return. He found some dividends that neither of us had reported in 2024. We had moved everything over to Edward Jones that year and some how missed these two documents. He made 3 times as much as I did in Dividends but because it was considered community property the law said I had to pay half. We are in Louisiana. | /r/Divorce_Men | 19/06/26 09:54 PM

My wife wants a divorce and she’s the breadwinnerIf you can make it to 10 years married, you can file for part of her social security when you become eligible. You can file anonymously and she will never even know. Its a benefit of being married 10 years. You can read all about it on the SS site. I am 1 month away from our divorce being finalized. We are two men and he makes 3 times my salary. I tried to be amicable and only asked for 40% rather than 50% allowed by the state. All was going well and then last week he became a d#@k. | 2 | Pro tip for distribution of assets. Do not let your lawyer and the judge screw you. Learn from my mistake.I'm going thru a divorce now and was afraid of the same thing happening to me. So I hired a mediator, was super nice and easy about the divorce. We were able to agree and split everything in November and then filed for divorce stating we had already completed asset division and agreed no further divisions. Whew! Bullet dodged. | /r/Divorce_Men | 11/03/26 09:15 PM

I can’t cope with the loss of the time and the guilt that it’s somehow all my fault even though obviously I didn’t deserve thisI'm 54m and and approaching the 6 month mark after filing for divorce. 22 yesr relationship. We were the model couple in both families. I was devastated and terrified of being single at 54. 5 months later, 20 lbs lighter. I'm at the gym 4 days a week. My confidence is back and I am happy again. Therapy has been amazing. I found a therapist who really pushes me and has helped me to reclaim my life. | 3 | There's hope.Dude, Congratulations!! That sounds like a stressful 2 years. As a 57M going thru an amicable divorce, I can't imagine how it was for you but it must have been difficult. I'm glad the jury ruled in your favor. You sound like a nice guy. Enjoy the freedom and new life! | /r/Divorce_Men | 19/02/26 10:45 PM
Bed size post divorce? We slept in a old four poster full size bed for 22 years. It was tight, but we always snuggled when we slept. I kept the bed because my new apartment has a 9 x 10 bedroom. It just fits. lol | /r/Divorce_Men | 10/02/26 12:11 PM
Question for you guys who did care about family members on her sideI have stayed in contact with most all of the family from my ex. He asked me not to reach out to his dad who I really enjoyed. The Dad is 92 and in good health, still the family said he would be devastated by the news and so no one told him. Instead, they make up excuses as to why I am not at family functions. It's a bit odd, but I go along with it because the rest of the family has really embraced me and I don't want to ruffle any feathers. | /r/Divorce_Men | 16/01/26 05:59 PM
4 Years UpdateI did too. I wrote this down and put it on the fridge. | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/12/25 01:13 AM

Feeling extremely lonelyHey Brother It has been a shifty year and Im sorry you are in that dark hole.i know that once I fall into the hole it can be hard to climb out. What i want to tell you ia that you are not alone. Many of us men have been in or are in a similar situation. We are here with you and are pretty good at helping each other. Im here if you need someone to chat with. I know that alone feeling. It sucks and I am experiencing it right now too. Hang in there, we Can get through this. A New Orleans friend. | /r/Divorce_Men | 23/12/25 01:47 PM
Mediator success stories? We had good luck with a mediator here in New Orleans. She stated up front that she only mediates and if we end up going to court, she is out. She also said she could only represent one of us. I hired her at $250.00 and hour with a $3000 deposit. 4 months later and we split our assets, then filed for divorce. She did the asset division workups. I've spent $1742.00 so far. This was mainly due to our Financial Advisor having a lot of questions for her. This amount also includes the filings fees. | 4 | How did you get better at being by yourself?I am in month 4 on my own. Nights are the worst. I do my best to say hi to people on the street and reach out to friends. I learned quickly that friends dont really know how to act when a divorce is started. Week 1 everyone called and said they would keep my busy. Week 2 I didnt hear from anyone. Week 3 still nothing. We 4 I was super lonely and started reaching out to friends. They were very receptive. I have learned that I have to be the one to reach out if I am going to do things with friends… | /r/Divorce_Men | 16/12/25 09:43 PM

Suprise divorceYour post was fine. Paragraphs don't matter to me. I was more focused on the content rather than form. | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/11/25 02:46 AM
Suprise divorceI started my life here in Bywater 1999. Moved Uptown in 2011 and I'm still here. I'm in the real estate field but not a realtor. I probably saw some of your renovations. Your ex sounds like an Avoidant persona. Check out Avoidant attachment and Mel Robbins on YouTube. She has some great insight. My ex is the avoidant and I am more the anxious persona. Her videos were spot on amd gave me aome answers. | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/11/25 02:44 AM
Suprise divorceYou past year sounds stressful. I'm really sorry for what you have been through and what you are currently going through. I think a therapist could really give you some clarity and direction. It has helped me process a sudden divorce. Btw..I'm a Nola boy. | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/11/25 02:17 AM
