Very much this! A lot of these problems stem from not enforcing rules and boundaries early on and not teaching kids that they need to put in an effort regularly. Yes training is more work than just doing the dishes, but then you end up with situations like this when you absolutely need help and the kids feel no obligation to step up. Same thing with husbands too, start insisting from day 1 what their contribution needs to look like.
