On the other hand, food was far far more expensive as were clothes. I would be curious to see what the average amount of discretionary income was for a single income home.

I'm 100% female and female presenting. I just like androgynous guys. And non-androgynous guys, tbf. I didn't marry till I was 40 and he's very traditionally masculine in his presentation. I'm not sure he'd pass many other rpw tests though.

Well many of us find it insanely sexy. Of course maybe we all live in the SF Bay Area but I'm pretty sure that's not the case.

I'm older than most folks on this sub and in my generation the androgynous David Bowie guys were horndogs (and awesome in bed, for the record.) However, it went with self confidence. I don't think that's changed that much- the femme-y, gender-bending guys I know are still very self confident and they have had more and more kinds of sex than my free-love-era parents ever dreamed of. None of them are tough guys or particularly bulked up.

Fewer white children? How would that affect anything?

I have seen a lot of black guys pull off the fedora look. The secret is for them to be dressed for it- they're not wearing a fedora and a utilikilt, they're dressed to the nines going to a show or a funeral or church. So sexy, btw.

I think they are. Which ones are you thinking of?

Sounds corny but it feels that way to me, too. (Not a rpw, fwiw- mosty just a lurker.) Belly dance classes, especially the tribal-style ones were great for me feeling more flow-y and feminine, in an empowering way, and a lot of that is loosening up lower back and pelvis area. Americans tend to be wound tight in that way, and in my opinion, you notice it especially in how American women move.

Not necessarily because you never get your career momentum back. That's why it's usually better for people to stay in the workforce at least half time even if you have to pay through the nose for childcare. But paying through the nose is a luxury in the "short" term even if the financial benefits are better long term. It's another version of Terry Pratchett's Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness.

Someone has to stay home. If you can afford a nanny or au pair, great- but that's not true for most of America, and childcare for triplets is probably twice as expensive as for one child.

Huh. That would make better sense to me if it was whichever parent stays home, not just moms.

She shouldn't be getting both. You have to pick one or the other.

For most people getting half of Social Security isn't comparable to having held a job. There are lots if people who are in committed long term relationships who aren't legally married. And it IS a fight when you live in a society. Telling someone to ignore the "annoyance" of your family, your co-workers, your bosses, and your social environment telling you you're doing something wrong sound like something a 20 year old would say, even if you pretend there aren't real world consequences in the fo…

Women lose out in the long run though, through lower retirement savings and Social Security payouts. People forget to do that calculation when they decide it's cheaper for the woman to stay at home with Mom or the kids or whomever. And if you aren't married it's even worse. I know a lot of women who far and away prefer work to full time caregiving and they've had to fight a lot of not only family pressure but pressure even from random people on the street if they figure out that my friends are w…
