Agreed, there is a multitude of research out there showing that picking individual stocks does not fare as well as investing in a diversified fund where all you do is “set it and forget it” - one source is this bet that Warren Buffet made about it and won: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.forbes.com/sites/johnwasik/2018/01/08/how-buffett-won-his-1-million-bet/amp/

My dad recommended 2 years also and my now husband proposed a little after that time in our relationship! The infatuation stage, where dopamine levels are high and make everything seem peachy, usually ends by then and you can feel more confident in making a rational decision.

This blog has been posted here before, but it has great, practical advice on female appearance! http://www.therulesrevisited.com/2011/09/feminine-beauty-is-highly-controllable.html?m=1

Yes! So it was called Engaged Encounter and even though it is themed for Catholics anyone could sign up. It was a little expensive (around $300 per couple in our area) but that included spending the night at a retreat center for a weekend, food, etc. There were about 15 other couples and 2 older facilitator couples who would talk about a topic for a bit (money, future family life, etc.), then the men and women would separate for like 10 minutes to write down answers to questions about the topic,…

So we had been dating a little over 2 years and had had a number of discussions about when we might be engaged, etc. We even went to an engaged retreat beforehand (his idea and we’re religious) which was great in providing an organized space to talk about a lot of topics. He proposed an a nearby shrine out in their garden, and the whole day I was nervous because I thought he’d probably do it there and super happy once it happened! We didn’t have an official engagement party but his birthday was …

Thank you SO much! That makes a lot of sense and I like the analogy about it being like a muscle rather than a tank. I’ll try to be more supportive since I definitely don’t want him to feel defeated

Agreed, I think there’s a key difference between nagging and discussing an issue more than once. Seeing all of these specific issues it seems perfectly valid to want to break up, but the general idea that you can only bring something up once also seems unrealistic. I know the principle is to “bring your captain your problem, not the solution” - that doesn’t mean never talking about it again or checking in

I’m sorry to hear that that has been a problem! I also don’t think bringing up something more than once automatically counts as nagging - many issues are complex and require follow-up conversations/discussions to make progress. A topic can be brought up by asking non-threatening questions for example to see where the person is at in regards to the issue.

Ok that makes sense, I just haven’t seen this topic be brought up without people usually calling it manipulative/abuse immediately which was why I wasn’t sure what to think

Thank you for the response and I see what you’re saying about there being a lot of pressure. I’ve told him that I don’t think he means to do it or that I think he’s a bad person, I just wanted to make it clear what my limits are. The reason why I’ve told him it’s concerning is because we’ve been together a few years now and while it’s much better, sometimes it happens during normal interactions (not already rough housing) so it’s a little less predictable. I can see how that language could make …

Thanks for the reply! I guess I worry that he may just be using a lot of self-control now but that it may not be sustainable. What do you recommend if in the future he started getting back in the habit of not being as careful?

Amazing post! Even though I’ve been here for years, there were still so many tangible suggestions and examples that were great to read

My now husband and I got into a lot of arguments at first due to differences in communication styles and not giving each other the benefit of the doubt. For example, if he wouldn’t text me one night or if he made a joke I found insensitive, I would think “he should’ve known how that would make me feel” and when I would tell him about something that upset me, he would think “she thinks I’m a bad person now”. Through a lot of conversations, effort on my part learning about positive techniques (Joh…

The top comment of this post is a lengthy comment with all negative things to say - I know we don’t sugar coat here but things like that (an excessive amount of criticism disproportionate to the severity of what she did) deter people from making field reports.

I don’t understand the mentality that this should be the only thing that should come out of this thread - it is invaluable for us to have specific examples available and nobody is 100% pleasant at all times. People have off days and OP acknowledged her mistake, she should at least get credit for that

I appreciate that you went into detail about what you said - it can be easy to talk about STFU in the abstract but specific examples really help in seeing what not to do. It can be scary to put yourself out there in front of a lot of strangers so thanks!

My college had a Catholic center where I met my husband! Granted, I am a practicing Catholic, but many religious groups host events open to anyone!

My fiancé and I have had similar issues in the past and here are a few tips that have helped: Trying to be mindful of what’s going on in the moment and identify when things are getting tense. When I notice we’re both moody or things are escalating, I will try to pause and either ask “Is something wrong?” or just literally say “Just so you know, I’m feeling a bit moody because ‘x’.” or “I just need some time to stop feeling ____”. If neither of us are at a place where we can say something nice/ne…

Just about all of the men like this that I knew in college was through the Catholic center at my university. People of all denominations were welcome, so if you’re open to religion that could be a good way to meet people. As people mentioned here as well, nowadays it’s rare that a guy will ask a girl out without some encouragement. After interacting/talking with my now fiancé a few times during parties, I messaged him on Facebook saying that it was nice talking to him and then he asked me out. A…

Cooking can be a great and practical bonding activity! The SO and I cook on Sundays when we are free as a meal prep for the week, which is helpful since we both work. He is actually a better cook so I usually follow along and occasionally lead the cooking. We have had minor disagreements at times (ex. he likes to be careful and clean as messes occur whereas I prefer focusing on the cooking and then cleaning after), but through communicating and compromise we've established a good flow. I love th…

I mean this in a non-accusatory way; I am a recently practicing Catholic who is still learning all of the beliefs and am interested in the perspectives of others. You said that a man who laughed about the Eucharist wasn't Catholic enough, but isn't another essential teaching to abstain from sex until marriage? Was this something that you/your husband believed in following at any point as Catholics?

What is it like? We have been together for about 2.5 years, and engaged to be married in about 8 months. We deeply love each other and make a good team! I will admit though that we do have some key personality differences, and have to make a conscious effort to work through those (it's not all sunshine and roses). We spend a good amount of time together and apart, which makes the time we have together more appreciated. We say 'thank you' very often to express gratitude and have talked about many…

I'm not bringing this up to be argumentative, but other posts have discouraged giving this kind of "wife treatment" to a SO until you are at least engaged, such as here: https://www.reddit.com/r/RedPillWomen/comments/6do0br/difference_between_girlfriend_and_wife_duties/. I'd be interested to hear from others have seen that topic think!

I completely agree, I can see that distinction now that you've described it that way. I will check out that subreddit, thank you!

That makes sense! As far as I know he doesn't know anything about female/male SMV and the wall which honestly concerns me the most because we're both in our mid-20's and his value will be increasing way more than mine in the next 10 years. Like it's mentioned here though, the wall doesn't have to be as sudden if we put in the effort to counteract it!

Thanks for sharing! I replied to your comment above also :) RP does say that for LTRs and marriage a mix of alpha and beta traits is ideal, so that's good that he has both! Did he express any apprehensions to getting married/the institution of marriage before you got engaged?

What do you mean by depends? I wouldn't say he has, in high school and college he didn't ask many girls out so he's not as experienced. He has a positive view of marriage since his parents are still together and we are Catholic

I like that idea of not specifically mentioning the name! We've talked about some related topics and it seems much easier to keep doing that casually without having to explicitly mention where those ideas are coming from.

Interesting! Are you two married? I would like to be able to talk about it with him down the line :)

That's a good way of looking at the issue! As mentioned in my comment above, this particular blogger is alright with marriage in an RP context, but still aims to inform "beta" men about the risks involved. We talk about vetting a lot here so I can agree with the people there who try to encourage men to vet as well before getting married. Unfortunately, too many just resort to the default of "DON'T GET MARRIED" ignoring the factors of children, religion, etc.

I agree, I don't want to pique his interest too much in it. I was really surprised that his friends know about it because we're all Catholic, but the particular blog does see marriage as a viable RP option compared to a lot of others in the community. I think there is some value in our spouses being aware of RP priciples since it helps encourage our attraction to them, but it seems way too easily for men to get jaded in their journey. Also, depending on what he reads they'll say there are no uni…

What do you mean by that? I'm open to hearing the opinions of others but this comment alone does not give me much context. As I mentioned in a comment below, today he apologized and said he wanted me not to concern myself too much with the dumb plot and just take it as it is. He said he assumed I knew that was his intention and that he'll try to be clearer with what he says.

Yes, today he apologized and said that's what he was trying to do and assumed I knew. I agree that I was overthinking so thank you for your response!
