You should get the same advice s the guys get. There's no particular style or haircut that will make you sexier to everyone. Get fit, work on your image, be social etc. The rest is based on your tastes. Some guys will love a girl that looks like she's from some Japanese anime, other guys like the type of professional woman. Find a style that you want and realize that it will likely attract guys with a similar taste in style.

I don't think she's over-reacting. You aren't ruining her life. It can end not just that friendship, but destroy an entire social circle for either her or the girl you're about to date.
