Possibly because they don't consider you attractive enough. Many women appreciate that you are attracted to them as long as you are respectful. Younger women not so much in my experience.

Right. Without controlling for degree, job, years of experience, and even industry it doesn't tell us much.

Actually it is. My girlfriend makes as much as I do and is as educated as I am. I have dated college girls and it just limits what you can do together. With my current girlfriend we travled to amsterdam and paris and split the costs. If I had wanted to do that with my ex (who was of college age) I would have been on the hook for both of our costs. More importantly, long term we have a lot of the same ambitions and goals and have made sacrifices to get where we are. We are very supportive of each…

I literally lol'ed at: Most people learn that the female body is pleasurable at their mother's tit. Straight guys may just be more sexually timid then non-straight men and thus keep to what they know. Does that imply that heterosexual females have never breast fed? Just nonsensical at every possible level.

That's what I thought too. It's still a huge leap that if you didn't report "none or mild" then you were "seriously injured". What happened to "medium/moderate injuries"? Great example of the "telephone game" at work.

Since when? The guy who gets all the girls is still admired in most circles. Even when you're past college age. All I know is my own experiences. I dont sleep around and I prefer to date those that also don't sleep around. I have been seeing an awesome girl for 4 years and we (yes, we) don't want to get married and no one has yet called me an "evil corrupt pervert" that I know of. My # is fairly low because if you're dumb/ditsy I lose interest too early. I just stop calling. And personally I find that a good system because once you get physical with someone you date them for MUCH longer despite their glaring incompatibilities than if you hadn't.

And we will die as a society for these shortfalls. It's abundantly clear how young most of reddit is. Do you really think our society is less fair or healthy back when we had child labor and more or less no health protections. Most people I know are good and decent. They work hard, they try to take care of their kids, they are good neighbors. Sure they are flawed but we all are. Nostalgia is always bullshit. In a survey conducted on young couples, unemployed men were more likely (three times more) to suffer abuse while for women it was the opposite - women who made more than their partner were more likely to be abused. I find that rather disheartening in both cases. The girl I have been dating for the last few years makes within 5% of what I do and it's AWESOME. She pays her way and we can do alot more interesting trips, experiences. In the past she said she had problems where men broke up with her …

Yeah. My first thought was that if you are that fucking physically and/or emotionally fragile you have no business being in public, let alone a small intimate party. Your issues are not the problem of the entire world. They are specifically your problem. On the other hand if someone reacts poorly to a touch or tells me to please not touch them then I won't. I have had that happen in my dating and general life before and I got the message really quick. In general I keep my hands off acquaintances…

My own mother called me "domesticated" because I was cooking for them and my girlfriend. I corrected her by saying I think she meant "domestic" and she said "no". I mostly cook and the gf mostly cleans. I'm quite proud of doing things more or less equally with my girlfriend and I enjoyed preparing dinner for my loved ones for once. My mom is actually a very hard worker and has filled traditional male roles and has called me a chauvinist in the past so it was particularly odd for her to say that.…

No idea why you are getting downvoted. It is wise to only have relations with someone who is more or less at the same financial level as you are. First of all I find you have a lot more in common with you and understand the same pressures you have. Someone making 20k per year isn't going to necessarily get why you work 50-60 hours a week to earn 100k. Secondly you will know they like you for you and not for what you can do for them. Finally if it does end badly you won't pay much or anything in …

Just the fact that she can so easily "hose" you is cause for alarm. It's wrong and he's not agreeing to marriage with such an imbalance of power. Just like most women in the US wouldn't agree to the sort of power imbalance that exists in places like Saudi Arabia. It seems like a dispassionate decision based on both statistics as well as second hand knowledge through his male acquaintances but is complicated by his emotions for this woman. Until society (courts really...) sees fathers as just as …

Guy here: I think in the situation where the couple is married and decides for one spouse to stay at home with the kids then a reasonable alimony payment to allow the person to get up to speed on their job skills is reasonable. Probably only if you've been married more than 4 or so years and I'd limit it to at most 2 or 4 years which is how long it should take to get a degree, etc. It should by no means be tied to how much the income earning spouse makes. Ie if I make 100k vs. 10 million a year …

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anecdotal (2) Evidence, which may itself be true and verifiable, used to deduce a conclusion which does not follow from it, usually by generalizing from an insufficient amount of evidence. For example "my grandfather smoked like a chimney and died healthy in a car crash at the age of 99" does not disprove the proposition that "smoking markedly increases the probability of cancer and heart disease at a relatively early age". In this case, the evidence may itself be tr…

I think that's confirmation bias. People go into marriage as very individualistic people with conflicting expectations and goals. Most probably don't date around enough to really have perspective on what they like and don't like. Just focus on yourself. What is important to you in a mate and how can you be a better mate to them? My girlfriend and I are sometimes surprised we still "have it" and how well we get along after about 4 years when we see how bad things are supposed to be with others ac…

There are many cases where a woman emptied a trashed condom into herself and STILL collected the cash later. I'm sorry but I think this is anecdotal at best. Most condoms do have spermicide in them and it's hard enough to get pregnant the normal way let alone injecting sperm via turkey baster. She is doing this all sneaky right after you two have sex? Isn't it better to just be on the same page with the girl you are dating? If you don't want kids, date a woman who doesn't want kids. (my situatio…

He's stupid for getting married without an ironclad pre-nuptial and for getting caught cheating. And sorry, but he was morally wrong (just as any spouse cheating) and made her look like a huge fool in the national media circus.

Emo and country music often complains about women. Rap music is pretty often misogynistic. So you don't have to look far to see exceptions to your example. Music is polarizing because it is about strong human experiences and opinions. No one wants to hear a song about taking the kids to soccer practice or your damn grocery list.

Why not just make the whole thing gender neutral and call it a day. "While you SCREAM at your mate, there's a person wishing they could talk softly in your love's ear. There are two sides to it. A lot of american women that go to Italy have told me they got groped more or less constantly and it was terrible. I agree with you partially that it does seem that many people in the US are simply more angry and more willing to escalate things to violence then other countries I have visited. I also agree that we are more prudish. I have been touched by stranger girls even though I would never grope a girl I didn't know. Think about if I did this to some random girl I …

Some people can do it. It's always easier when YOU were over the other person and broke it off. I just find in addition to what I already mentioned it makes it harder to move on and when you DO move on there is often awkwardness/jealousy/drama with the new person as to why the old person is still in your life. To me it makes things more honest and clear to my current girl (3.5 years so far!) in two ways. She doesn't have to wonder if I have slept with random female acquaintances. I have told her…

I just find they use me too much. I made a computer bases training website for an ex that was basically her job to maintain and add content to for the past 6+ years (when I was younger and more stupid). So no more programming, computer repair, shoulder to cry on post breakup. I'd rather use that time and energy on the next woman.

Doesn't matter if you aren't married either. If you get a woman pregnant and she wants to keep the baby you are still on the hook for a large portion of your income for the next 18 years. Of course I am not arguing that you should not be paying for your child.

Just to be the lone voice of dissent my friend is pretty much getting screwed in her divorce. Most of her assets are in the US whereas most of his are in Mexico. She can probably go to court in Mexico but she is basically losing half of everything here. I may very well not know the whole story but I'd imagine if a woman made the majority of money, she would get screwed over as well. That being said, I fully acknowledge this is utter bullshit. Yeap, well aware. Especially interesting because my slamming the book (another occasion if I recall correctly) was enough for her to consider me a violent man and cause her to want to break up with me. I have learned as I said to not let things escalate to that point. I have a pretty bad temper on occasion but I never want to hit people as a result. Wow, I don't know any men that would gleefully say the things they say in their comments. I have never laid a finger on a girlfriend. It's a few assholes that don't want to support their kids that make all these laws necessary. I have really mixed emotions about it all but definitely realize how foolish it is to get married. Luckily I date a girl who doesn't want to. Interestingly enough she got screwed in a divorce because she makes good money and owned a house but that is the unusual case. Here is my problem with all of this. Are you afraid because of all the horror stories or do you have personal experience? I look at relationships the way I do a roller coaster. The highs are amazing and the lows are extreme but in the end rollercoasters are a hell of a lot more fun then driving 55mph on a flat highway your entire life. I agree. Men like affection and women like sex. Methinks if op treats women as mere sexual gratification then he deserves to get treated like a wallet. I have definitely lapsed into misogyny because of a few bad (female) apples but in the end you need to either keep looking for a good one or look inwards to figure out why you can't find a good one. They DO exist. Find one that knows who they are, is mature when it comes to things like money, children, etc. and isn't spiteful.

Well said. I guess in your case there was nothing you could do. But lots and lots of men marry women that make no bones about what your role is in the relationship and what you owe them. She should not be getting half your salary but a relatively small stipend for 4 or 5 years if she has been married to you for 15 or so years and has not been in the work force should not be out of the question. Being a homemaker has an opportunity cost though. My female friend worked on wall street. She stopped all that to raise my friend's kids. He eventually became a cancer surgeon making 300k or so. Of course up until he was age 32 or so he only made around 30k as a resident. So all those years she could have been making money, climbing the corporate ladder. I am the luckiest man alive because I have an amazing girlfriend (3 years and counting) and she DOESN'T WANT KIDS OR MARRIAGE. But yes, IT'S A TRAP! I dodged a major bullet when I was in my early 20s by not marrying the girl I was dating. It doesn't sadden me. He needs to grow a pair and divorce her now. 4 years without sex? You marry ONE person and you commit to them and then they decide they don't want to have sex with you ever again? He is a willing party to this abuse.

People almost always have different sex drives. If you used to have a sex drive and suddenly you don't you need to examine the causes. For your own sanity and your spouse's. It's funny actually. I have all these concepts of women as being ball busting, manipulative, materialistic and a path to woe but I am not exactly sure where that comes from. I respectfully disagree. I don't think he should be punished by the legal system. However, trying to get a woman you know has been raped to have sex with you over and over again with her saying "no" until finally she gives up and acquiesces makes you a very questionable person. Is this how you would want your daughter or sister to be treated? Remember the old "No means no" PSAs? As I said, I had an ex who had been raped by a "friend" so I am not the most objective on this subject.

In the end is that going to help me at all or just make him beat me up worse? I am sure that her frame of mind was influenced by her previous rape.

I'm a bit torn. As a man I can't imagine asking over and over again when she is saying no. Especially knowing that she had been raped before (I have had a ex-gf who had been raped by an acquaintance so I went out of my way to make sure she was always comfortable with sex, etc.). The guy is certainly guilty of being a GIGANTIC douche. In the strictest legal sense I'd say no, he is not guilty of rape. However, based on her previous rape (that she told him about), basically berating her until she a…

Until the child can be removed and carried in HIS body or in some other vessel that is not an apples to apples comparison. I'm with you that if he doesn't want to have the child then he shouldn't be treated the same as a husband that wanted to have kids with a woman and then is done with her and them. I think there should be some sort of minimal stipend but certainly not the vast sums currently taken. "Debt slavery"? That's up to you. While I realize the more you make the more that may be given …

I'm confused by what you are saying here. Could you clarify? The parent is saying men should not get a right to force the woman to not have an abortion since it is her body. You are saying we should do our best to prevent her from having an abortion until the father has a say?
/r/MensRights22/07/09 09:23 PM

Came just to say what you did. At the end of the day while I am not that thrilled about abortion (especially when used as glorified birth control) it is still the woman's body that would more or less be host to an unwanted parasite if she doesn't want the kid. And her life is always at stake even though childbirth is much safer than it used to be. I think any man that wants to sleep with a woman should either take great and redundant protection or deal with the consequences if you want the child…

That was an example of how she fit the stereotype. Note I said "many" but not "all. However, she was very generous to family and friends, was well educated, etc. She just REALLY wanted to be a full time mommy and have someone subsidize that. I just felt more like a parent then a mate and felt that whatever the shortcomings in the life I could provide for her I would never hear the end of how I had failed. No. Thanks. :-) I can see where I contradict myself. Sorry...

I agree with you even though I have experienced some of those stereotypes. While you accurately point out that "who cares what others think", never underestimate how powerful social pressures and marketing messages can be. If I love someone very much I DO want to give them everything. I want to give them a big shiny diamond AND a nice house AND a honeymoon somewhere memorable. The responsible part is when you look at your budget and tell her "which one do you want?" and she picks the house or th…

Yeah. That part I'm confused about. Didn't it say that McNair bought the Escalade as a present for the girlfriend? I guess he just made a down payment and let her pay for it?

I've heard LEO fairly often (mostly in postings by a cop). GSR I have not heard of but I figured out what it was by the context. Ie gun shot residue on her hands implies she was the shooter.

I understand your point but when the woman "forgets" to take her pill and gets pregnant then wouldn't it be negligence on her part on this social contract? Birth control taken correctly is 99% effective. Or she says "don't worry I'm on the pill" but lies? Could you even bring this up in a child support hearing? "Hey judge, I just signed up for sex. SHE forgot to take her pill (or lied about being on it) and she decided to carry the child when I want it put up for adoption or aborted." It would b…

It has been argued (I think by the violentacres.com lady) that by having child support and the man is not allowed to have a say in whether the child is carried, that you are subsidizing out of wedlock children. If child != paycheck MANY less women would bear the child. The idea is if a woman can't afford to take care of a child then she should not have it. I'd say the opt out method is the most fair. If the man is pro-life for instance and anti-abortion then he gets to pay child support. if he i…

It's more about professing your love in public and announcing that you want to spend the rest of your life with this one person. It lends a certain legitimacy for the families of the partners, friends, etc. I'm 34 and my mate is 38. Calling us "boyfriend" and "girlfriend" is starting to seem a mite bit quaint. ;-)

Well. You told me. That's a relatively valid plan. Supposedly RAISING kids is the thing that's all bubbles, snowflakes, unicorns and what not though. Not just being a sperm donor. I'll pass on both personally. Don't want my offspring living in the same world as your retarded issue.

Potroast knows himself and is being honest. A lot of people think having kids is a joy and it will fulfill their lives like nothing has or will. In other news, most people are stupid. Having kids is a huge responsibility and hard work. Be honest with yourself about whether you really have what it takes to nurture and protect a life for the next 18+ years.

Yeah. That really hit the nail on the head. Responsibilities but no rights... And it makes me realize that as a result I see having kids as something that could ruin me... financially, emotionally, physically and mentally. I am just a big wallet to the courts and most women.

Quite a few of those fathers made it that way by disappearing from their childs' lives. I don't think that was the "feminist goal" per se.

It sounds like living with this woman would be a chore. She makes me feel so grateful for my girlfriend. My girlfriend is selling her pretty new car because she decided she'd rather have the income for traveling and emergencies then to impress the Joneses of the world.

Well said. I think having kids is hard as hell. I think it just brings into stark relief the differences in priorities, selflessness, dedication, kindness, responsibility between the two partners. I think it's a recipe for anger and resentment in many cases. The other problem is that people go into marriage expecting one thing and then when the fairytale doesn't happen they feel cheated. I'd also say that most people are about as exciting as a root canal and they love to blame that on everyone b…

I wouldn't say they treat it like sexual harassment but they DO treat it as though it is completely rude and intrusive and how DARE you think that YOU have a shot. The funny thing is usually I am just being friendly and in the mood to meet people and my far more attractive and cool girlfriend is otherwise busy with friends or other things. The point is you almost have to make sure that they have some interest in you via double takes and/or your rippling abdominal muscles before you even approach…

I just like to remind them that when they hit 30 and are no longer considered attractive my attractiveness will be significantly enhanced primarily because I'll be a lot richer. </cynicism> There are friendly, cool women that are approachable and don't think they are God's gift to mankind. It's just that tons of girls were brought up to think they were all princesses and deserve the world. It's tough to find a nice balance between good self esteem but no sense of entitlement... One of the things…
