I agree entirely with the general sentiment, but the delivery and almost complete lack of evidence aside from personal experience and one wince-inducing but overall sensationalist 'panic' media video. This type of article, more of an opinionated editorial than a journalistic piece, doesn't do much for the points it's trying to make.

Well ok. Gonna be honest, didn't read all of that. Lot of aggression. Much of it well-founded, none of it well-directed. So bye, I guess.

Ok, now that's radical in the opposite direction. The fight is not won, for either side, and probably won't be for quite some time. You absolutely are justified in blaming radical feminists for some mensrights issues. They certainly aren't helping. But they aren't the root. The double-edged stereotypes that a lot of these issues depend on are interlocking. Often a 'positive' stereotype of men results in a negative one for women, and vice versa. Stereotypes plus assumptions plus law equals a lot …

I really enjoyed 1984, I think I will pick up that essay, thanks. You mentioned liberal feminists, or libertarian feminists, or some such term. I think that's closer to the group I want to be identifying with. Could you elaborate on this versus the mainstream brand of feminism that we've all grown to despise?
/r/MensRights25/03/13 10:02 PM

Wow, this is really surprising. I agree with you. On literally nearly everything you said. Crazy. Those five tenants put forward by mainstream feminists are exactly what makes it difficult to identify as a feminist. You yourself made the distinction in saying Mainstream Feminists (I would quote it, but i'm on my phone right now, never learned the shortcuts). Yeah. They're pretty much the devil, they kind of make it hard for everyone, women and men(obviously much harder for men). But someone abov…

Whoa, we agree? I found another feminist who defines the term the same way I do, that's a Reddit first. I am not in the least surprised that it was in mensrights. This is awesome.

You get lots of points of view and lots of stories from personal experience. From people who don't necessarily live in the same area, or country, or on the same continent. While each story individually doesn't mean that much to the entire issue, they are interesting, and the conclusions people draw from then are informative. Subreddits are kind of ultimate forums, in the sense that I can both shape the conservation with my own posts or just read other people's, and know that this is statisticall…

I'm no lawyer. I haven't read any more extensively on this case than any average person with access to a source of media. But it seems like that could well have been left out of the case because it's really hard to prove, and therefore a weakpoint in the defense. Could be wrong, please tell me if you know something.

You seem very well informed, and I am trying to become very well informed. While I will absolutely continue with my reading, I feel that forums are useful because you can examine more fully the theory vs the practice from several points of view, culturally and experientially speaking. Could you elaborate from your perspective? I would appreciate it.

I believe this is our first encounter, but your reputation proceeds you, JabCross. I'm both a feminist and a men's rights-ist(don't know the word, sorry)(hmm, that looks bad),and its kind of crazy that we still have to argue about this, because everyone is doing something. I don't defend the lobbyists. They're insane, for the most part. But there's a lot of people who adopt feminism as a philosophy, not an occupation. Who don't feel that women's rights and men's rights should be considered opposing forces, so are probably some form of equalist. Who are in general reasonable sa…

The broken public ones, yes, but the ones that actually impart the philosophy and read, say, the literature that it stems from, are not sexist or man-hating. I'm sorry that the public ones are. In this day and age, we really should be past this by now, can't we concerned for each other? I don't know if it exists, but equalism is the way to go, because women have problems, but so do men! And a lot of them interlock. I can't give you any proof, dude, you know that, you won. But i'm a feminist, and…

I think it was more like: put the kids through school instead of work, unman the factories seem to be working well, this is the cheapest way, keep it moving. Controlling the curriculum came naturally, but i wouldn't call it Mao like. THAT was a disaster.

stop thinking men are the problem Exactly. I don't know where feminism got fucked up like that, but that is not what its supposed to be about.
/r/MensRights14/07/12 05:08 PM
1

It doesn't, but what if it did offend me? You never know. Scroll some of the other replies. Apparently some people do have a problem with it. The double standard here is striking though. The femi-nazis would be furious if something like this came out but with women (ex. Burlesque), and then still go see this, but you guys are for the most part chill about this. And sane. And mature.
/r/MensRights14/07/12 05:06 PM

I think you have to account for the war angle as well, then. Necessity of workers equaling shifts in responsibilities. Did you know that women for the most part didn't or were discouraged from driving before WWl? It was only until the men were away in the war and we actually needed drivers that women started driving.

Men were originally more powerful than women, in nearly all walks of life. Equality of the sexes meant more women's rights than men's rights, because men kind of had all the rights. That's obviously no longer true. Now we have demon femi-nazis who lower men by victimizing themselves. I want to stay true to the original meaning of feminism, but with a 21st century outlook. So men's rights are just as important to me.

/r/MensRights14/07/12 03:58 PM

I see. The problem with arguing for equality on the shiftless issue is the general public's rejection of the idea. Like they wont even hear the issue, its just immediately dismissed as inappropriate / ridiculous.

Hmmm. Sexuality is evolving rapidly, from what I understand of what was tolerated between now and maybe twenty years ago. I don't know how to feel about that. I guess its worth pointing out that I haven't figured out my own sexuality yet. Thanks.

What I'm really asking about is the double standard, I guess. I'm going to edit it.
/r/MensRights08/07/12 03:08 PM

You guys are anti-feminism because moat feminists aren't for the original meaning of feminism. They're self victimizing and use that to put men down. I'm trying to create a new image, the first image, of feminism. I just want equality. Which means I care as much about men's rights as I do about women's. But the name feminism carries so much hate that it distracts from that, sadly. How do you feel about the double standard that Magic Mike perpetuates?
/r/MensRights08/07/12 03:06 PM

Right exactly. I think there is one more factor though: whether the younger party understands what's happening. That's the difference between 6 and 16, you know? That's where somebody can get hurt. And that's a lot harder to measure. But it would help of everyone didn't assume automatically that it was nonconsentual or inappropriate or with trickery/'brainwashing' by the adult.

Alright, cool. I agree with everything except that all schools should be segregated. Some guys and some girls do better in a mixed environment. I think we should have the choice. I have such a long list of things to fix 'when I grow up' when i have the money, the time., whatever, but I'm adding this. Why did farm work decline? I having trouble fitting this into my timeline of American history. Do you have general idea of the whole thing you could explain to me?
/r/MensRights08/07/12 06:36 AM
1

Exactly. We're not fighting men, we aren't man-haters, traditionally. We're fighting the close-minded among us, those that feel that it is easier to be the victim. And the victimizing women, self-victimizing women, have recently taken over feminism. Do I dream of the day when there is no male power structure, when it is equally distributed between men and women? Of course. But I dread a day when there is female power-structure, because that just starts the entire cycle over.

It wasn't a protest against men! It wasn't! Really. It was more a protest against the self-victimizing mindset of most women. The battle against cosmetics is proof of that, except the fake feminists will claim all of those businesses are run by men, which makes me want to kill people. We were fighting our own ideals, because they were restricting us from taking our place as equals of men. It wasn't about convincing men, aside from the suffrage movement. It was breaking the mindset that women are delicate and should act as such, shouldn't be professionals, should only tend to the children, etcetera. Was that mindset enforced by men? NO. that's what people don't get. It was enforced by women, ourselves, or manners, unwritten rules, polite society. We had to convince ourselves. Don't degrade that, please.

This is how I feel completely. Like what feminism was supposed to be is totally screwed by what it is now. Its hard tor me to own my feminism, even though I mean it the its supposed to mean, because so much hate is attached. I am a feminist and a masculist, and I want equality. True. But feminism isn't supposed to be about hatred. It has been turned into that, especially online, but I call myself a feminist, perhaps a new-wave one, and you don't hate me, do you? But if the name needs to be dropped, ill do it. Equalism. Is that a subreddit yet?

(Upvote) I think online, on this site, you're right. We get a lot of feminazi trolls. But outside, IRL I think we have some good legitimate feminist causes. The real ones, for equality. I would give you some links but Im still figuring them out, making sure. I only recently became a feminist, (I guess I only recently became anything, depending how you look at it) but I'm going to stay one. And a masculist. I seriously think equalist could work some day.

Actually, that problem stems from that field already being male dominated. Like how businesses hire people of color to meet a diversity quota? Women are hired in engineering because there aren't that many women in engineering. That isn't going to change for a while. That is an advantage now, but like I said the field is already male dominated. And that doesn't make it easy for the woman. Are you equally considered for the same job? I have no fucking idea. I'm going to need some proof to back up some of those claims, because I think that's a bit extreme. Feminists are probably not poisoning male education nationwide. However, the factory style school system that is popular in this country does suit girls. However, seeing as it has been there since the industrial revolution, I don't think it was created as a plot against men of the future. I do not say that females make better teachers. That is not true. But they make better teachers for girls and vice versa(IMO, there's no study for that, that I know of) however, the teacher has traditionally been female in America, for some reason. Perhaps the mother instinct was assumed to bea good influence, or the men had better things to do than tend to children, as the mindset went. Whatever, the point is. The large influx of female teachers is a holdover from then. I think that's changing,…

I think more so it seems to fit young girls more easily, for whatever reason, though not intentionally. So I'm an advocate of one on one teaching, like in the Montessori tradition, which difficult and rare, or all boys schools, where the teaching style is fitted to boys intentionally.
/r/MensRights08/07/12 05:09 AM

None of those examples are actually helpful. I know from personal recent experience. It just makes the student resent the teacher and therefore care less. If you want to punish a kid forbdoing something wrong that's fine. If you want to motivate a kid to learn, you modify your teaching style.

We need change. Personally I feel that the entire(at least public) schools system is ridiculous. It was created out of the industrial revolution, they are literally modeled after factories. I think its the same problem, in that he/she may not have their sexuality straight at that age. Even if he's fully consenting, something like that may lead to later confusion. Or not at all. Its that worse-case scenario that we tend to guard for.

i think we do need background checks, but that they should be limited in now far back they reach. A kid who screwed up at 18 should not be skipped over for a job as a man of 40.

I think there should be a time limit on when your sexual offense record is open to the public. Like five years, maybe. Extending or retracting with the severity of the offense. So that while you aren't branded for life, you are monitored for repeat behavior. That way you cover both cases, the lifetime offender and the one-time fuck-up.

What a lot of people don't consider is the psychological impact. Sexual maturity is only half physical. We like to decide when you're sexually mature based on age because your actaul feelings are impossible to measure. So its a very individual thing. Teens are human, we know about sex, we may or may not be masturbating by 15, and boy or girl if we trust the older person, we'll enjoy the sensation. But we don't know what it means. I'm a teenager, and I can tell you now, I would be very confused. …

Oh my gosh, man, I'm so sorry. People don't understand that as hard as it is for a woman to be raped and move on, its a million times harder for a man, because you're right, there's no help.
