Actually what happened here is she couldn't charge him because the state in which she is a prosecutor requires a prosecutor who is prosecuting someone for stat rape to prove that the defendant knew (or reasonably should have known) that the alleged victim was in fact underage and the alleged victim is on video saying "I'm 18."

Most states have stat rape as a strict liability offense which means actus reus is the only thing that matters. But California (where this occurred) does recognize the mistake of age defense.

No evidence he admitted to anything. The official transcript or audio of that alleged phone call has never been made public. And the girl is on video saying "I'm 18."

I never actually saw this. But apparently her lawyer accidentally revealed her identity in a since deleted tweet. A video interview with her about the case blacks out the image of her but it's the same voice and you can see the costume she was wearing in the party video in the background of that video. People also found her tiktok. Same girl in the party video. She was also discovered to have been looking for sugar daddies on Twitter when she was a sophomore in HS.

In some states statutory rape is a strict liability crime which means it doesn't matter what the defendant knew or when they knew it. All that matters is "Did it happen?" California is not one of them.

You forgot MLB's Trevor Bauer (were 3 accusers, 2 of their names were Lindsey Hill and Madison Rasberg) and the 2014 case at SDSU (accused was Francisco Sousa, accuser was Alexa Romano, Sousa would go on to sue the school and win).
