Ok, even if you accept that the men who lost their lives don't count (WTF!), what about the ones who come home missing limbs? Suffering PTSD? What about the fathers and brothers of those who died? Is their suffering somehow less meaningful because they aren't women? I'm sorry, there is no justification for her statement.

I'm not sure that's necessarily true based on some of the reactions to the Kieu story.

I'm no legal expert, so probably someone can answer this better, but I suspect that unless you cross state lines and make it a federal offense, then it falls under contempt of court. A judge ordered you to pay, you didn't, therefore you go to jail until you do. One would hope judges would not force payments that cannot be paid, and wouldn't use contempt against someone who could not to put them in jail. But, they are specifically allowed to set child support payments based on what they think the…

At least in the US, men who don't pay child support can go to jail. Also, crossing state lines to try to avoid payments is, I believe, a federal offense. As far as I know, it's one of only two debts for which you can still be imprisoned in the US (the other being taxes).

I personally would like to see child support worked very differently than it is now. My thought being, basically, you pay for the child when the child is in your custody. You are, after all, getting the blessings of having a child during that time, so you also get the responsibility. Certain things are shared expenses, such as private school tuition, summer camp, medical insurance and the like. Those things require both parents to consent, and then they pay based on their custody. If you have cu…

What always strikes me about these sorts of blogs is that a significant portion of the you-go-girl comments and often the author herself, as in this case, go out of their way to point out that they are one of the lucky ones, their husband/brother/father/significant other/male friends would never do anything like that and they are one of the good guys, but... Well, if every guy you know is not like that, why are you assuming that every guy you don't know is? The answer is simple. Sexism. But, the…

Makes one wonder if there is a creative class action lawsuit in there somewhere.

I said they were both serious crimes and need to be dealt with with equal seriousness. I'm not trying to compare the crimes directly, I'm saying we can't ignore one in favor of the other and just think that's fine. That said, do you honestly think that losing your job, family, friends, home and reputation to a false accusation won't lead to mental health issues? Depression, panic attacks, massive trust issues, even suicide are not far fetched results. No, honestly, they most likely don't have th…

Only if you then do not name the accused until they are proven guilty. For men who have been falsely accused of rape, public castigation is very emotionally damaging. It destroys families, careers and lives. Rape is a serious crime that should be dealt with seriously. False accusation is also a serious crime, and it should be dealt with equally seriously.

Assuming, of course, that you weren't one of the 8 that gets killed.

This is sad trolling at its worst. Ad hominem attacks, made up statistics, self-contradictory and adds nothing to the discussion. I've been seeing this pattern from you in a few comments lately. Pn6 and I have had our disagreements in the past, but he has always been honest about where he comes from, argued the points as he sees them, and been respectful in his discourse. In no way does he deserve this attack. I love intelligent dissenting opinions that lead to valuable discussions that bring mu…

I don't think the first trimester is a reasonable time period. The time period must be based on when the man finds out about his potential (or existing) child. Otherwise no man will ever again know that he is to be a father until the second trimester.

It makes all the difference in the world. Whether this gets reported by police as DV and ends up in statistics or not, it is not reported by the media as DV. In fact, it is put in 'odd news' and considered an unusual occurrence. Thus it both demonstrates and perpetuates the social subconscious notion that only men commit DV, and by extension violence in general. This is clearly absurd as numerous studies have already shown that DV is perpetrated by women every bit as often as it is by men. This …

The major domestic violence legislation at the federal level is called the Violence Against Women Act. So no, California isn't really unusual in this.

Wait... She hid a knife under the bed, seduced him into an 'amorous fling' and then attacked... and it wasn't planned? Something doesn't compute there.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
