It seems fairly intuitive that the people who would openly admit to watching porn would skew liberal. The real correlation between porn viewership and conservativism would be hard to determine with any reliability, and is arguably not important

There's no such thing as an "empath." It's normal to feel empathy for people. People who claim to have the power to pick up on what other people are feeling without being told are simply projecting their own experiences onto other people, which is a narcissitic and presumptive behavior. There's probably a small subset of empaths that are just codependent and unaware of it, though

Did you read those articles? None of them say point blank that men handle stress better than women. 1 and 2 state that women are more likely to report anxiety, even though stress levels between men and women are about the same. You could just as easily assert that men handle stress more poorly because they have higher rates of suicide. Men die more frequently of illnesses related to chronic stress because they are less likely to believe in the link between stress and physical illness. I can't fi…

Citing types of discrimination that all people experience doesn't prove that men as a group experience discrimination. That would be people being discriminated against, not men.

It seems that you have a misunderstanding of patriarchy. Everything that I've read/studied about the concept indicates that its creation was not deliberate.

Why/How does the existence of other forms of discrimination negate the oppression of women? You do realize that those types of discrimination you're referencing don't happen to men exclusively? I think you're misguided here. You pointed out a potential methodological error. That doesn't render a statistic completely incredible. All statistics are subject to those errors. Does that mean we should stop gathering data and basing our decisions entirely on opinion and intuition? I think that you would agree that that would be absurd. There are different levels of credibility. A stereotype is not necessarily based on data; a statistic is, even if the data collection has some flaws. None of t…

Do you disagree? I never said that statistics were infallible; if I implied that, it was not intentional. And in any case, the second sentence wasn't a primary part of my argument. It was more of an aside.
/r/PurplePillDebate27/05/15 05:34 AM

It's understandable, but I would also argue that it's irrational and potentially detrimental to future relationships. There's no way to prevent yourself from getting hurt (in general); it's just a fact of life. People are shitty and not always predictable. Also, 2 is an incredibly small sample size. It would be much more reasonable to say "some people are like that, so I should watch out for those types of people." Or perhaps, "I tend to attract/pursue women with these traits."

A minority, I'm sure. Men are more often victims of violent crime than women. That being said, the majority of black crime is also intraracial, so I would argue that that fact is moot in this context.

I can't speak to the reliability of the first statement, but I've never heard of anything like that. Do you happen to remember the source? Also, are you really trying to suggest that there's no correlation between poverty and crime, especially violent crime?

Do you have any idea if that statistic is controlled for compounding variables like poverty? In any case, men make up a much larger proportion of the population than blacks do; the correlation between aggressiveness and sex is much stronger than aggressiveness and race; there's a greater disparity in height and strength between sexes than between blacks and whites. I also wasn't really agreeing with you. I was challenging your statement. Granted, I can't argue with a preference like that. Sure, …

IIRC, men are at least three times as likely as women to be perpetrators of violent crime, and are also responsible for 90% of homicides in the United States. Statistically speaking, men are a greater threat to women than blacks are to whites.

I suppose that's a fair point, but there's nothing wrong with trying to convince the other person to come over to your side. And the best way to do that is to appeal to their current way of seeing the world.

Ha. It's much easier and more straightforward to please a guy sexually than it is to please a woman. That's a given. The vast majority of women cannot orgasm from PIV sex. http://youtube.com/watch?v=xGgS5GVCZwI

/r/PurplePillDebate24/05/14 07:58 PM

Because RP theory hinges at least partially on the assumption that men and women are fundamentally or mostly different and should be treated as such. Counterexamples are one way to undermine said theory.

I would argue that sociological forms of domination cannot be reduced to "internal" or "external." Social norms have power because people internalize them, and in doing so reinforce them in day to day interactions. Reducing free will to freedom from external domination is useless because --unless we're talking about literal force or laws--the dichotomy between external force and internal will is essentially false. The will of the individual and the will of society (eg social norms) are reflexive…

I don't understand where you get that impression of BPers from. If anything, I have found that RPers can be just as self-righteous as BPers, if not more.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/04/14 06:11 AM
2

The fundamental tenets of TRP that I disagree with as a BPer are that 1) women and men are fundamentally different, and 2) people are completely responsible for their actions. I don't think it has anything to do with idealism. In fact, I think TRPers have an incredibly skewed understanding of reality. TRPers can be very idealistic.

Since it's impossible to "force" anything on other people, that makes no sense. It's definitely possible to force other people to do things. But I wasn't being entirely literal. I think it's pretty stupid to look up at people for partner count, regardless of sex. Great! We agree, then.

I think it's pretty stupid to look down at people for partner count, regardless of gender. If you value chastity, live your own life by that; just don't force it on other people.

/r/PurplePillDebate14/04/14 07:58 PM
1

There are a number of reasons why it would be a bad idea to meet up with someone on the internet for anonymous sex, none of which have to do with a low libido or a lack of desire for sex. Besides, I'm not going to go see a stranger in another state for sex; it would be easier to find someone where I actually live.
/r/PurplePillDebate14/04/14 07:05 PM

I would still argue against the implication of inherent biological differences that make women desire sex less than men.

I'm referring to free will from a social/sociological perspective. What are you referring to? The movement of atoms?
/r/PurplePillDebate13/04/14 10:23 PM
1

Well, first of all, I'm an incompatibilist. Reducing "free will" to the ability to live free from external domination completely defeats the meaning of the term. Secondly: The Compatibilist might argue that determinism is not just compatible with any good definition of free will, but actually necessary. If one's actions are not determined by one's beliefs, desires, and character, then how could one possibly be held morally responsible for those actions? In practice, the moral systems of the comp…
/r/PurplePillDebate13/04/14 03:01 AM
1

It's one thing to assert that atoms behave in predictable ways; it's another thing to assert that free will doesn't exist. If free will doesn't exist, then we have no hand in how hard we work, or whether or not we play the victim. No one would be able to help it. There are no true incentives in a deterministic universe. Red Pill theory is fundamentally opposed to determinism.

Nothing would change. I would just date good friends. Assume for a moment that you aren't in the gender that gets to select from a pool of suitors. Assume you desire getting laid as much as a man does. Haha, what? I've never had a suitor in my life. I always have to be the one to approach people, and I've gotten rejected more times that I can count. Newsflash: women also enjoy sex.

We don't feel entitled to sex, we just recognize what works & what doesn't work. Listening to feminists & weak men saying bullshit like "communication is key!" "Always try to make her happy!" "Get her flowers" "take her on dates" etc etc etc. has only led MANY men to lots of dry penis. Women aren't straight forward like men are, they have to interact completely differently because women don't think the way we do. Because you can make fallacious conclusions based on accurate premises. TRP theory observes real patterns in human behavior but often uses shaky logic to come up with underlying reasons for these patterns. There's plenty of questionable cause fallacies and confirmation bias going around.
/r/PurplePillDebate30/03/14 06:51 PM

TRP may work, but its theory is based in false assumptions that are harmful when applied in a more general sense. The issue arises when people try to use TRP to come to grand truths about life/people/relationships.

I don't see how it's productive to openly mock the other side. You didn't even address any of the counterpoints; you just dismissed them. Do men really have to see women as human beings in order to have sex with them? Even if RP men view women as the same species, don't you think it's possible that some RP men see them as less human?

Nope, it's only false if you choose to consider income-producing work and housework on the same level, which is really not an obvious choice and depends on what you want to measure (e.g. economic contribution to society\family, personal effort, something else). Why aren't housework and "income-producing work" on equal footing? I would argue that they are equally as important to the functioning of society.

So what will be the impact of this? At the moment, just over half of registered doctors are men, but it is predicted that women will overtake them in less than five years. A 15-year follow-up of doctors after graduation showed that on average, after career breaks and part-time working are taken into account, women work 25 per cent less than their male counterparts. The problem, put starkly, is that the average male medical graduate will work full time, while the average female won’t. This means …

Is this arguing that male privilege doesn't exist, or that the concept of privilege itself is flawed? Also, it's misleading to imply that men work/labor more than women do. How does unpaid labor factor into this theory? What about the pay gap? Are there any citations for the statistical claims made here? Is this exclusive to Western culture and/or developed countries? RP argument is that men and women are different, and will exhibit these flaws (and others) with different frequency. For example, many people believe that women are more emotional and are more prone to irrational behavior ("hamstering"). Males can hamster too, but (RPs would argue), do so much less frequently. Actually, TRP makes fun of BP males, and calls out their male hamstering quite often. In some cases, TRP uses statistics as evidence of differences in behavior (e.g. hypergamy and divorce …
