The majority of poly people would be offended at the implication that they are doing it because they aren’t getting their needs met in their original relationship. They are very often emphatic that is not what it’s about for them. I’m kinda one of those, and in any case it’s more about the emotional connection than the sex for me. There are a reasonably large number of couples that are poly because of a libido mismatch, including a friend of mine/my wife’s boyfriend. You might be surprised how o…

I’m not sure you are right about that first part. Following the poly community for a while, I’ve noticed that it seems women propose poly within relationships perhaps slightly more often than men do, and I think he poly community is perhaps slightly majority female, which surprised me. Atlas is correct that it is definitely a community that is friendly and supportive of female sexuality. But yeah, you are right. Dating as a married poly guy is rough apparently (I haven’t tried, I’ve already got …

They are being to restrictive in their definitions I think. Poly just means your relationship agreements (or ones you are willing to agree to if you are single) allow loving and having sex with more than one person. Open relationships allow sex with more than one person, often with the implication that love is off limits. DADT can be poly if it is agreed that love is allowed, though I think it’s an inherently highly unhealthy form of poly. All DADT means is you are not allowed to talk about your…

I think that person is somewhat ridiculous, or knows a very different poly scene than I do, but I regularly see poly guys complaining about having trouble getting dates while their wives/girlfriends have no such trouble. I haven’t had any problems, but I’m also not trying to get dates, so there you go.

If that’s your idea of an aggressive response, I can see why you identify so strongly with the “beta” man. Flailing tantrums of incoherent insults convince absolutely no one of your manliness, quite the opposite. You really need to work on this “alpha” thing. It screams lack of self esteem and insecurity issues at the moment. You seem to have a need to remind people that our are actually attractive. I haven’t seen you, so I can’t judge, but your comments make you extremely unattractive, I wouldn…

In my experience, the trick to not having a shitty relationship like that is to first start off with a loving relationship with someone you can trust. Generally, as a prerequisite to that, you have to be a decent person and not a total scumbag, so I can see why you’ve had bad experiences.

Maybe I’m just a chad, but that’s not at all how it’s gone for me.

Add on Tesla, that man was sexy, no shortage of female interest, but he wasn’t interested.

I have a good friend who is attractive, asexual, and in a very happy relationship with a poly guy.

I think this is good proof that women love men more than men love women. That is incredibly insulting to ethically nonmonogamous people, a great many of which, perhaps the majority, are women. We still love our partners potentially just as much as you love yours.

It’s a bit of a bad habit that I’ve been trying to break in myself, I’ve had too many conversations where I talk about a hypothetical unpleasant person, calling them “you”, and offend the other person.

My experience is roughly the opposite, I’m nonmonogamous (male), and subscribed to r/nonmonogamy and r/polyamory. There seem to me to be more poly women than men, and I have seen a number of comments on those subs commenting on that. You might have better luck posting a gender poll to those subs (or searching, it’s probably been done before), or asking this sort of question on r/askreddit.

I am indeed, and while I'm in an open relationship so my boundaries are a lot different than yours, I still think the prejudice against opposite sex friends is just totally ridiculous, and I would never consent to being in a relationship with someone that thought they could just shut down my friendships. I don't see how that is defensible if you trust your spouse, and if you don't, what the hell are you doing marrying them?

Are black people unusually prone to attacking people with knives for stupid reasons? I hadn't thought so, but I'm not black so what would I know.

What excuse do you have to cut anyone?

Yeah, I was taking that as amusing hyperbole, but I may have misjudged. Just to clarify, even if you catch him sleeping with the person you hate the most, you still don't get to come after him with a knife.

Yeah, the interdependency of an established relationship is definitely a healthy and positive thing, I just personally consider "codependency" to refer to the toxic excesses of that sort of relationship. Codependency is comfortable when it keeps working, but it leads to nasty situations when there is any upset in the relationship, like the classic trope of a spouse withering and declining and dying a year or two after their spouse dies.

To answer your question, maybe, kinda yes and no. I have been with my wife for almost 9 years, married fairly recently. We also have an open relationship, and I have a (female) FWB who is also a close friend. If for some reason I only had sex with FWB and not my wife for the next year, I think my relationship and feelings for both wife and FWB would have changed, but I'm quite sure I would still love my wife. Sex and the close physical intimacy it entails (especially cuddling after sex) is one o…

In my experience with poly and nonmonogamous types, they take sexual safety extremely seriously, with sharing recent test results being fairly standard practice. RP types and others who are not connected to those communities may not have the same standards. However, herpes is ridiculously easy to get and incredibly common. A lot more people have it than they realize, thankfully I have managed to avoid it.

That's an interesting perspective. I'm in an open relationship, and regularly browse poly and nonmonogamy forums, and usually it goes exactly the opposite. It's relatively common for people to have relaxed standards about sexual exclusivity, but jealousy and awkwardness starts happening when they start "catching the feels" for someone else, even if it does not impact their feelings for the original partner. A common compromise is that they can be "close friends" close, but not "romantically" clo…

That seems like a terrible model for a relationship to me, making a sacrifice to gain a negative.

Depends on what you mean by exclusivity. "He can not have close female friends who aren't sisters" is in my opinion way past ordinary exclusivity and well into creepy ownership levels.

You do you, but I would consider that a borderline abusive relationship.

And in this case that's a good thing. Better to be single than in a relationship with zero respect.

Married to one of them, fwb with another, I know a few more who are like that including an ex. Perhaps I just have excellent luck, but that has not at all matched my experience with women

I was under the impression that 'incel' meant 'involuntary celibate'. If you are a voluntary incel and want to remain that way, where is the 'in'? If you want to remain celibate because you have issues with women/men/whoever, go ahead. No one cares. I think (may well be wrong) that incels generally want to stop being incels. Otherwise they would be volcels.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
