I admittedly don't know much about knife laws, but I know that because there are a lot of hunters/fishers who use knives to skin/prepare their kills, there's definitely a lot of lee-way for knife owners. Switchblades and knives that in general are not obviously knives initially like a switchblade are usually illegal in Ontario.

I will agree to that. But I think the same standard of proof needs to be used to prove that she abused the court. I like being consistent.

Well, making false reports of crimes could be an indicator of mental problems, so maybe we need to approach things in the same way...

Right, but my point is that people who commit perjury don't have the risk of physically injuring or abusing others while it is being investigated, whereas child abusers may. It's a sucky situation, but I can see why they would want to remove the children from the situation. I would HOPE, and maybe this is where I'm naive, that any charges that are sent to the court would be investigated somewhat by the police before it got to that point. But as I say, this is where I may be being naive, and year…

I'm confused by your last sentence. How is that evidence of abuse?
/r/MensRights31/07/14 11:52 AM

Basically it's the charges being thrown around and being precautionary in the case that they're true. If you're being charged of being dangerous and abusing kids, they have to protect the kids until they determine that's not the case. If you're under suspicion of a serious crime, you may be detained in jail to make sure you don't leave the country or hurt someone else, until they determine that's not the case. In the case of being accused of falsely accusing someone of being a pedophile, chances…

A buddy of mine recently went to the doctor due to a nagging cough. The doctor summed it up as a "man cold", which was parroted by his wife on Facebook. 3 days later she apologized on Facebook because it turned out his "man cold" was strep throat and he had to get his throat drained immediately. Man cold, indeed.

Quote from the comments in the linked Eleanor Clift article, that I think sums up my thoughts pretty well: I've never said drunk women don't have the right to not be assaulted. And my policy for men is, unless you are 100% she wants to have sex with you, keep it in your pants because you'll get no sympathy from me when she screams that she was assaulted. But as someone who has been a feminist since the 60's, I am becoming very very uncomfortable with our refusing to even suggest that women and g…

Yes. and Yes. Yes I would help a child in distress, but I would try my darnedest to involve another adult in the process, preferably a woman. I noticed a child off to himself at a public park one time where an event was going on. He was clearly upset, and so I approached him and asked if he was lost. He nodded he was, and so I asked my wife, who was there with me, to stay with him, while I walked through the crowd of people. I finally saw a man looking around frantically and asked if he was look…

Disclaimer: I have not read the comic in question, but only have seen that one panel in the article. Doesn't it seem like the woman is initiating the sexual encounter? She is pushing Falcon to have another drink... So even when a woman of legal age is the initiator/aggressor in a sexual encounter, plying her sexual partner with alcohol, even though he resisted, the man raped her? is that what people are insinuating?

Interestingly, where people spend their money is important to them. That's why you have boycotts on products, companies that test on animals, companies that use child labour, or have other dubious moral problems. So you have a company leaving it up to the employees on how they spend their money, in this case in relation to insurance. Freedom, yay! However, when the state mandates that a company needs to spend money on something they deem to be amoral, you run into problems. Shocking. Imagine bei…

My favourite thing about this is that people are spinning it as Hobby Lobby denying access to something. 1) you can still access it, you just have to pay for it yourself. 2) It's 4 types of contraceptives out of many, that you have to pay for yourself 3) Before Obamacare made it mandatory for companies to have insurance plans for employees, what did people do? Oh, they paid for it themselves. The whole thing is much ado about nothing, but because it involves a contraceptive that women use, it's …

The charity is setup with the following goal: "Funds raised are distributed to individuals and other charitable organizations to assist and help those that have been negatively affected by war, natural disaster or poverty within Canada and/or abroad." I honestly think it's more the case that boys just plain aren't asked how they feel very often. I don't know if this is true of girls as well. I'm of an older generation, but I honestly can't think of any instance of being asked "How do you feel?" other than within the context of me experiencing an illness at the time. I don't like all the ideological bullshit that they come up with (ie- patriarchy theory), nor do I like the shifty sources, surveys, and studies. Finally I don't like all the "us vs them" blaming all of women's issues (legitimate and non-legitimate) firmly on "the patriarchy", men as a gender, and "all men". I know self proclaimed feminists who do not meet the above criteria and they are cool people whom I respect and converse with frequently.

First off, Paul Bernardo is just plain evil. He is an evil, evil man. Secondly, if I remember correctly, Homolka (or her lawyer) knew full well where these video tapes that showed her as an active participant were, and didn't disclose them until after she had gotten her ironclad deal. So I feel this is a slightly different case than the usual stuff we get here, and not an outright pussy pass. A lot of things with social sciences doesn't make sense. They don't have objective, observable data like the "hard sciences". Because in all honesty men gain from abortions. If a woman gets an abortion after a night of casual sex or a one night stand, she's not required to carry and care for a child, but he's also not responsible for providing for it for 18 years. Whereas conversely a woman can hook a man financially by having his baby. She also gets to quench any maternal thirst/instincts she may also have.

Yet another talking point supporting the concept of "Male Disposability". People just don't care about male victims of anything as much as they do female and child victims. Presumably this is because men are seen as better able to take care of themselves than women and children? Which I can see the point when it comes to children, and depending on the culture, women. I think though, in western society women are more than capable of taking care of themselves. Probably less so in third world count…

I wonder if a subset of those applauding this karmic justice are also anti-death penalty? Because a main talking point I hear often is how rape is worse than murder... If that's the case, I would hope that the majority of people who are anti-Death Penalty would be horrified at this case. Edit: did not r…

I think the state of the dating market right now is indicative of our situation as a society. Japan right now is largely over populated in a lot of areas, and "coincidentally" dating and marriages are not priorities for a lot of young people there right now. I think this is some sort of "cultural population control" at work, much like what we see sometimes in nature. Once people realize that being against feminism as an ideology isn't necessarily or implicitly misogyny, as is generally assumed now, people will actually read our points and arguments instead of dismissing them outright. /r/MensRights19/04/14 11:23 AM

Sadly, this precedent has already been set by a previous case where female office workers sued to get paid the same as their male manual labour co-workers and won their case. It was lauded as some sort of equality victory, whereas I don't see the equality in an apples to oranges comparison of jobs. Hence why I'm interested in if the courts are consistent with their ruling given the precedent. I don't feel that either situation warrants "equal work" when comparing office to manual labour work. When this was the other way around (women administrative workers wanting equal pay to physical labourers), I said it was ridiculous, because it wasn't even remotely the same types of jobs they were comparing. MRM is actually quite left-leaning, I've found. I would argue that most people here lean firmly to the right. Most of the time I've found if people make a right/left comment, they are usually asked to not do so, so I find this thread a bit unnecessary.

I think for "optional" procedures such as these, health care only covers upwards of 50% of the costs. At least that's been my experience. I've been on the opposite side of the spectrum with fertility treatments, and there is NO coverage from health care (oof!). This doctor knows that there is a good chance if you make an appointment for a vasectomy the doctor there won't do it either. Why? Because you are 29 and childless. This isn't a gender issue that you are trying to make it. Doctors don't want to be sued and since they have the right to decline, they do. This is a good point. Some people do change their minds. I have no resentment towards women in general. I honestly think there's a lot of people out there who think that men are invulnerable. Apparently men should be able to just stand there during an assault, and it shouldn't hurt them. So before I read this article, I'm going to predict that in the comments there will be at least 5 people saying sentiments like "This is why we need Feminism" or something to that effect. Let's see if I'm right...

They've already adopted feminism as the solution to any problem and any proposal outside of the scope of that ideology is deemed wrong or unnecessary. Talk about being brainwashed.

It's up to you, really. I would prefer we didn't give them attention. And we criticize anti-male ideology all the time, but I would prefer to focus on groups that can actually do something harmful, rather than a reddit circlejerk. (btw, even feminists acknowledged that SNL skit was a crappy skit that didn't actually refute any arguments. If you ask me, it was a huge flop)

Let them stay busy making fun of this subreddit. Less time spent by them "destroying the patriarchy", more time for them circle jerking. Plus us discussing them is what they want. Brings them undo attention. And besides, no one but SRS or people from this subreddit go in there anyways so it's not like they're making converts or anything.

The argument I hear against that is "Not all speech is worthy to be heard. Would the university allow a KKK member to speak?" or other rhetoric. Apparently opposing and/or disagreeing with an ideology is exactly the same as hating people for their skin colour. This would be the same thing as Christians opposing a talk on atheism at a Christian University. Or a Muslim University opposing a talk on Christianity. etc. etc. In short, Feminists act very much like their ideology is a religion, and the…

The reasons the Japanese systems numbers are so high is due to the strictness in which they allow cases to be brought to trial, according to the article. I wonder of that means petty squabbles like we see on judge Judy and he-said/she-said cases are not common over there.
/r/MensRights29/03/14 11:03 AM
1

I looked up the numbers at The Innocence Project. Of the 314 exonerations, 247 are sex-based crimes. 80% of the time there's been an exoneration via DNA, it's to exonerate someone who's been convicted of a sex-related crime. Other crimes may also be included (I took a quick look and found some rape/murder combos, which is even more shocking to me).
/r/MensRights29/03/14 05:12 AM
1

Further to note, the PDF seems to imply that these are referred to the FBI at the very least "post-arrest". So while no one has been convicted for sure (apparently post-arrest and post-conviction referrals are included in this), someone was in custody or was in custody at some point.
/r/MensRights29/03/14 04:57 AM
1

Yeah I followed up with another post on non-sexual crime referrals to the FBI and what their findings were.
/r/MensRights29/03/14 04:13 AM
1

Clearly I'm not a criminology person. I thought "case referred to the FBI" meant court case. In retrospect, silly thing to think. That said, I wonder what the FBI numbers for non-sexual crimes would be for comparison. That DOJ number still really stands out. Japanese courts have a 99% conviction rate, according to the same article!
/r/MensRights29/03/14 04:11 AM

Pardon me, I misunderstood. So 20% of the time a person is brought to trial for a sexual crime, on average mind you, they are unequivocally the wrong person... According to Wikipedia, the US has a 93% conviction rate on average according to the department of justice for 2011. The article then mentions state courts having a high conviction rate as well, so I'm assuming the DoJ figure is for federal crimes only? Or is that a whole? I'm gonna try and find something more concrete. So if it's 93% as …

Cuz real crimes happen more often then made up crimes, on average. Going strictly by the odds here.
/r/MensRights29/03/14 03:15 AM

Rather than frame these as false accusations, frame them as "wrong convictions". A 20% wrongful conviction rate is horrible. I read an article sent to me today by a feminist where they claimed only 10% of rape trials end in convictions. Of course the article assumed all were legit cases, but that's not what I want to dwell on: If both those stats are true, there is something unique and horrible about the way out society handles sexual crimes. Of those 10% of convictions, again work with me here,…

1) Equal treatment under the law for both sexes 2) Recognizing society's gender system as a system where women are treated as innately precious objects and men are treated as innately disposable subjects 3) As a consequence of the above, working towards the recognition of women as beings with agency/minds and men as beings with innate value/dignity. Wow. Permission to steal these? Succinct and yet I feel covers the breadth of what Men's Rights should be.

Essentially, Men have problems too, and we'd like to address them or have them addressed independently/co-dependantly of women's issues. Meaning we don't want to wait around for society to say, "okay, now we're ready to deal with your issues." A lot of people are now recognizing that most men don't live in the lap of luxury. I honestly don't know. We had a recent case in the past few years where a man AND woman lured a child away from a school and she was raped and killed. The woman was the one who led her away from the school, according to CCTV. If I analyze my actions, I made a mental effort to construct a description of him before I even knew who was missing him (father or mother), so I'd like to think that I would've been as critical/cautious in both scenarios, but I cannot say for certain.

Last summer I was at a community event at a park, and I noticed a little boy crying to himself off to the side. I will fully admit I felt a tinge of "don't get involved, it'll be creepy", but I did anyways, and went over and asked him if he was lost. Sure enough, he was. I called my wife over to stay with him, looked at him to construct a rough description of him, and looked around to see if any adults looked like they were searching. Finally I found a guy looking around, becoming increasingly w…

I hear ya. Still, a lot of these decisions are done to "prove a point" or "set a precedent", so hopefully that puts some context around some of these outlandish settlement amounts. I mean, people get worse payouts for losing limbs on jobs.
/r/MensRights24/03/14 01:48 PM

Yeah, again, the context wasn't in the article, so who knows, but given the large payout, I'm gonna assume there was more to the story than the paper was reporting.

I'm gonna put a "grain of salt" warning on that, actually. If I remember correctly, it was a Daily Mail (aka Daily Fail) article reporting on something that happened in America, so details were probably sketchy. Also, I'm gonna disagree wholeheartedly with your notion that she should have "not opened herself up to sexual advances". That's essentially victim-blaming and assuming she could've done something about the situation, which is not fair. Especially, since the advances came from a superior…

Bit low hanging fruit as this was 3-4 years ago, but still... Just goes to show these protestors simply don't know what they want. They organize a parade or a march to boldly bare their chests uncovered and then are upset that people are looking at them. You do realize that when you go out in public, people can see you, right? If I go out in public cross-dressed, I'm gonna get looks because it is not something people see every day.

This is really overly dramatic, and I wouldn't call this method "trolling", but the core point is valid, I suppose: Show how easily they can turn on each other and it undermines their ideology.

Pedophilia or paedophilia is a psychiatric disorder in which an adult or older adolescent experiences a primary or exclusive sexual attraction to prepubescent children, generally age 11 years or younger; as a medical diagnosis, specific criteria for the disorder extends the cut-off point for prepubescence to age 13. This has nothing to do with pedophilia. You are a one day old account, and you're spouting off this nonsense. You are a troll.

If I know anything about British media, all the big players are left-leaning. Normally I don't like to bring in politics, but there's been cases were certain types of trials are not covered at all by certain media outlets, or have not covered an event until days later. A certain footballer accused of rape was covered extensively until he was acquitted, then it took 2-4 days for them to report on the acquittal. I think Feminism, in the past, has done a lot of good to bring women up to par with men, with regards to equal rights. Where I think it is lacking is in bringing women up to par with men with regards to equal responsibilities. I think this is due to a fundamental disagreement with what equality means between Feminists and Egalitarians/MRAs: Equal outcome (Feminists) vs. Equal opportunities. Feminists lean towards changing the system completely to rig it so that equal outcomes of success are the …

The converse happens in feminist circles. Guys will make it abundantly clear that they are men while breaking into conversations and forums. I'm not going to say that all or most of them do it to curry favour from the female population in the same vein as what /b/ proposes women who do the "girl here!" thing on their board, but I think it'd be silly to think that none of them do it for that reason.

Eventually their relationship became sexual. Assuming 18 isn't under the age of consent where they live, I don't really see too much of a problem as an 18 year old is old enough to choose a career path, I don't see why she can't choose a partner. The laws the TSA used, for example, are directly a result of societal influences. Everyone was freaked out about terrorism and due to that knee jerk reaction, we have the sexual harassment line at the airports. /r/MensRights17/03/14 11:06 PM

Yeah and the average lifespan was halved 800 years ago. People needed to "grow up" faster. It's not a case if physical maturity in these cases, IMO. It's mental maturity. And I'd say that in this era, 13 year olds are much less mature than 13 year olds from 800 years ago.

/r/MensRights17/03/14 05:22 PM

True, but laws are based on our collective society's sensibilities. Enough people share one opinion... laws created. That being said, rigid laws that don't allow for nuance are also something I'm not comfortable with. Sounds like this one specifically did allow some nuance, based on how the judge ruled.

I'm all for society moving more towards rehabilitation being the primary goal rather than just jailing people en masse. If that's what his argument essentially was, then a re-wording would've been beneficial. A woman wearing a skirt does not give a dude license to take an upskirt shot in the stereotypical "holding the phone underneath her on the sly and taking a picture" scenario. If a woman is sitting on a train or something and her clothing is not covering herself up adequately, snapping a picture is definitely creepy, but I don't think taking a picture of what anyone can see in plain sight is "sexual violence"…

This all could have been avoided. In 2010, I was issued a summons for drinking on my own stoop. I mailed the ticket, along with the $25 fine, to the New York City criminal court at 346 Broadway and never thought about it again. When the officers ran my name, however, there was a warrant out for my arrest for an unpaid summons. The city, it appeared, had either not received or failed to cash my check. There's a lot of statements there, but very little backing them up. The figures showed that in Sussex 211 women were at high risk of being murdered or suffering serious harm from former partners on August 31 last year, while 17 individuals in Surrey were at high risk in November 2013. So 211 women were at high risk of being murdered just on August 31st of last year? What a poorly written article. I'd be interested in seeing whatever reports/etc. led them to these conclusions.

Well what if I said men rarely lie, and so men accused of sexual misconduct are most certainly innocent? Now we're at an impasse. If we take one statement over the other, there's obvious bias and sexism involved. Perhaps we should, you know, take each case on a case-by-case basis, and not assume that one gender or another is above reproach when it comes to crimes, and making shit up?

It's because of something I call binary fallacy: If X is true for group A, then X is false for group B. There are no other groups. Example 1: if women don't feel safe in a certain space, then men do feel safe in that space. Example 2: if women are actively oppressed in a society, men are NOT actively oppressed in a society. You can apply the same thing to folks who rail against white people or cis people. This automatically makes them the (de facto) oppressors, and this worthy of vile contempt.

I can see this being partly true. I mean, before you had to go through tough training and rigorous physical testing. Now they put some women on to ensure they meet a quota handed down by politicians. I don't think that women trying to get the vote was/is a bad thing. It's this notion that men in general were holding them back from it. In the US, men only get to vote because they're signed up for the draft and can be drafted into service. The draft hasn't come into play since vietnam, but it has been used to enlist men. Women have the luxury (yes I will say luxury) to vote without any down side, rare as it is implemented. So for American feminists to turn around and blame the male species as …

You have to keep in mind that up until recently, these high-risk jobs came with a lot of respect. I have a lot of respect for the Military, Police Officers, Firefighters, etc.. These are "honorable" positions, and the people who undertake these roles do so with a sense of responsibility and duty a lot of the time. I would hope that you wouldn't be able to find too many people who felt "forced" to enlist, or take a job as a police officer or firefighter. Unfortunately in recent years that respect…

Those are some interesting points. I never really did the online dating thing, so I'm kinda fascinated by sites like OKCupid, and PlentyOfFish. I haven't done anything like this, but it seems to me like it's either firehose, or small drips from a tap every now and then. Small drips for the men in that they don't get a lot of responses. The problem is that "The Patriarchy(tm)" seems to be a core tenet of being a feminist. This is a cop-out concept to base all your arguments on, and it really detracts from the ideology. It's been my experience that there are varying degrees of feminists, but the majority of them still subscribe to this concept which is at the core of the problems of all "brands" of feminism. If the majority of feminists ditched this concept, I'm sure the generalizations about feminism as a whole would go down.

In order to make the cited statistic work, only 1 in 1852 women report their sexual assault. A far cry from the 1 in 10 "statistic" as well.

This is totally a hoax made up by us dirty MRA's. I mean, it's obvious that the Fox News station in Philly is in on it with us, so let's just come clean. We also paid off the Doctors and the mother of the teenager in order to push an agenda. We also tried to mask our intentions by getting that website to purposefully switch the genders, or use "the officer" instead of "she" in order to further obfuscate our involvement. Bravo, /u/Aleksander73, you saw right through our rouse. We should've known …

Okay cool. I didn't get that vibe from your post, but thank you for clarifying. I think people are still sensitive of the "Fake Geek Girl" comments, and the one journalist/blogger I'm thinking of accused her of being one in order to garner attention/fans in lieu of her subpar acting skills (his opinion). I will agree that there is a kneejerk reaction to call the Misogyny card whenever a woman is criticized, but I do think the one journo I mentioned did cross that line. interestingly I don't reme…

I haven't seen her in much, mostly in Supernatural and a couple of web videos she happened to be in. She wasn't the best actor in Supernatural, but I've seen much worse performances on that show. If she's got something that works for her ("geek girl", "angry ranting guy", "super self deprecating"), then more power to her, I suppose. If you've got something that works, why not use it to maximum potential? Jerry Seinfeld is a horrible actor, and yet he leaned on his comedic skills and had a succes…

I follow Wil on twitter. To provide some context, he is quite obviously feminist or is good friends with feminists based on the issues he tweets about. He is also really good friends with Felicia Day, an actress who stars in "The Guild" and has done cameos on Supernatural. She has, in the past, been given criticism on her acting prowess, and Wil has jumped to her defense in more than one case. One particular case was a blogger/journalist for a gaming magazine who was critiquing her acting chops,…

The bill doesn't speak to a lot of fathers from the economic sense. I'm pretty sure not a lot of fathers are making more than $150k/year. I think mandating a percentage of income, with a floor is something that could be done with Child Care payments. percentages allow for changes in jobs/careers/hard times, etc. That being said, the priority for a default 50/50 split in time with the kid that's on the bill is beneficial.

To be honest I've never read up on feminism driving age of consent to be raised. Normally that's conservative lobbying groups, or Christian groups. I have seen that over the past 20 years, it's been going down as a general trend, so if that's what their goal is, they're not being very successful.

Most of the opinions around here are against infant circumcision, not circumcision done later in life. Most people seem to realize that there are some conditions later in life where circumcision will correct the problem. The fact that you seem to have gotten one for aesthetics is definitely outside "the norm", but not anything that I don't think MR would get upset about.

So I'm not entirely sure what discussion should come out of this? Lowering age of consent laws, or at least making them non-archaic comes up quite often in this sub when discussing "Statutory rape" cases, although the spin on those is usually "women get less punishment for the same crime as men".

Feminists don't try to dominate men. MRA's don't try to dominate women. This a falsehood born out of perpetual victimhood that most Feminists espouse. They are "oppressed" and "downtrodden". To a certain extent maybe, I would argue they perhaps rightly are applied to sex. Strength (and I'm assuming physical strength here) comes from the fact that males, in general, are larger and stronger than women. Delicate/gentleness can be seen as they inverse of this, but also due to females primarily caring for their offspring. "Prettiness"/handsomeness can probably be applied to both sexes to a certain extent, but since males are stronger, they don't rely so heavily on looks as females do. Ag…

The problem with bullying is that often times people turn to it as a defense mechanism. I was a bully at school for all of a week or two because I was sick of being picked on, as I was quite short for my age. So instead of being picked on, I aligned myself with the bullies for a little while, and joined in on harassing other kids. I disagree with the whole infatuation with privilege that social justice warriors bandy about. It basically says certain groups of people are incapable of understanding situations or are just lacking empathy. No, I'm talking about legitimate rapes. They should not be done anonymously. At all. Especially if the perpetrator is going to be told about it. Unless they are a serial rapist, they probably have a good idea of who made the claim when they're brought into the office. And since the claim is anonymous, the school has no idea who to protect from repercussions. This is a dangerous thing to implement. I am being completely serious.

I would argue that by doing so, and getting it taken down, we're potentially saving lives from short-sighted women who anonymously accuse someone of rape without thinking things through. Such individuals should formally press charges for their own safety and for the safety of others.

Shocking that this professor was involved in the Nicole Ryan case. The women who hired a hitman to kill her husband who was separated from her, living across town in another house, with his new girlfriend. If you have the freedom to leave the house, much less hire a hitman, you're not in a self-defense situation. Yeah... "Battered Wife" scenario, indeed.

Agreed wholeheartedly, and I would even go so far as to say that it's already lead to a skewed interpretation of what's is going on in India.

I draw an equivalent here to a woman saying she's on the pill and coercing her partner into unprotected sex with her in order to get pregnant against her partner's wishes. You've got sex, or some form of sex in the case I outlined above, under false pretenses. There's an illusion of safety. In one case, safety from being ostracized from the society around you (as the case in India for women), and in another case safety from being a father when it is not desired. Both are wrong, and pretty dick m…

In a world where "male gaze" is abuse, I feel this is an unwise proposition.
/r/MensRights14/12/13 03:22 AM

Couple things: 1) the prosecutor didn't refute her claims of abuse, it wasn't that he wasn't allowed. Bad prosecutor for not challenging that claim. 2) her dad and brother in law had previously (before the hitman attempt) drove across town to his new house where he was living with his new girlfriend and assaulted him

Nor was I arguing that, "sexual harassment" charges against a 6 year old are ludicrous. But at the same time, there may have been more than "kissing the girl's hand", as most media outlets are reporting, and thus some concern for the kid is warranted.

Grain of salt alert: There's a post in the /r/news posting of this article from someone who claims to be the son/daughter (NFNate is the username, so I assume son) of an "Achievement Director" (whatever the heck that is) at the school district this took place in. He actually posted a response to the thread that is in the link. I remember reading it about 3 days after this blew up. It looks like that entire thread has been pretty much "sanitized", including "Ben"'s response. If I recall correctly, he basically said that he rejected it for not respecting the policy and that if this is how people on this project are going to treat him, he'd just as soon not be a part of it, and said he was no longer going to work on it, as he was just doing so lately out of…

I have my theories. One is that the conservatives are fiscally conservative as well. New families to Canada aren't used to all the social programs we have here, and are primarily concerned with jobs, money, and financial concerns.
/r/MensRights30/11/13 01:46 AM

Funny thing is, up here in Canada a lot of the people voting for the Conservative party are families fairly new to canada, immigrating from other countries.

That's the stereotype. The liberal one is young white hippie lesbians. Funny how both caricatures are white.
/r/MensRights29/11/13 11:11 PM

Due to the large nature of Americans here, I think I've noticed a trend over the years: Whatever party is in power, the folks who belong to the other ideology (let's face it, Democrats = Liberals, Republicans = Conservative), tend to be more vocal. I remember when GWB was in power, you wouldn't hear the end of it from liberals. now the shoe is on the other foot.

Good to know, but breast cancer hits people in their 40s, potentially 35 years before 75. The effects of the two cancers are dramatically different and I don't think it's fair to compare the two as I they are equivalent. That said, Cancer is horrible in general and deserves to be eradicated in all forms. It's claimed 3 of my family members already.
/r/MensRights21/11/13 12:34 PM

Let's bear in mind that prostate cancer affects men much later in life than breast cancer affects women and men. So the higher death rate from prostate cancer is true, but assuming an average lifespan of a person to be 75, "life years lost" is higher for breast cancer.

Yeah, I dunno. I'd be interested to see where that book got it's numbers from. MRA's are quite often chastised for using just reports as references, and not the exact page/paragraph. This just points at a book that you pretty much need to buy in order to verify the claims. I would posit that the social stigma for inter-racial relationships that still exists, albeit perhaps not as much as in the past, and the conflicts of differing cultures/racial backgrounds would be a reason for any disparity between interracial divorces, and same-race divorces. I know it's cliché to say it, but this seems more of a racial concern, rather than a gender concern.

That story is pretty crazy, though. This is why sex-workers being legal can be a bit of a slippery slope. We already have women "changing their minds" about sex the day after, can you imagine if a sex-worker felt she was underpaid or short-changed the next day?

Yeah, there's a video floating around of someone going through that mentions the ball-busting room. I would say your analogy would be correct if it were worded: "It would be like calling a gay haunted house too focused on women if there was a "breast-busting room" for the busting of the stereotype of gay men all acting like women".

Random thought. Is it rape if a person forces a woman to pleasure herself with a dildo/vibrator? Or is it "made to penetrate"?

And I think your summary is a salient point to explaining why there's so much in-fighting with feminism. They want to have all choices available, but also will shame individuals who make specific choices, the best example of which is those who give up their career to raise children.

Right, I'm not saying double standards that are maintained by one gender or another, just ones that exist in society. But think of some heroes that men may have. James Bond is a favorite character of mine. I wouldn't model my life after him, but the fact that he's suave, skilled at combat, and deadly with the ladies is appealing to me as a character.

Other than the sentiments of that one guy who kept going on about manning up, I think it was a really good interview. People need to realize that interviewers on these types of shows will purposely ask easy questions that are directly pertinent to the subject of a book/movie/talk that their guest is doing. So by bringing up such topics/thoughts, they're really giving up "lob-balls", or easily-countered points, to the interviewee, as such was the case here.

I gotcha. When I was a much younger lad, I'd sometimes get caught up in teenage drama. Girls would come to me and say "<Other Girl> totally said I was <insert insult here>! <Another Girl> told me!" My response: "That doesn't sound like something <Other Girl> would say, are you sure?" Their response: "I should've known you'd take their side. It's because you like her/wanna get in her pants!" I guess that mentality doesn't grow out of some people.

I agree. It's foolish to assert all non-prosecuted/non-guilty cases are false rape accusations, just as much as it's foolish to assume that they were actual cases of rape.
/r/MensRights28/10/13 09:41 PM
6

To summarize: A 5-year low in cases being passed to the courts for rape, despite the number of reports increasing, is evidence that rape is not being taken seriously and is a "worrying trend". The fact that very few false rape accusations are passed to the courts is evidence that false rape accusations are rare, and are not a concern.

That's a very limited view on what constitutes racism. If it's saying a "bad word" in the presence of a certain race, that's one thing. It's another to completely treat someone different SOLELY on their race.

You're right, the decisions are not the same. In one case you're killing something to absolve yourself of responsibility for it, in another you are walking away financially to absolve your responsibilities for it. In one case, a unilateral decision is made by one party over life and death, and in another case a decision is made by one party over their financial involvement with raising a live child. One decision possibly involves an invasive medical procedure, another involves avoiding financial…
/r/MensRights28/10/13 11:54 AM

Well, child support is one thing, and he is willing to help pay for his kids, based on his sentiment above. But alimony on top of that would be a real kick in the nuts, I think.
/r/MensRights28/10/13 04:52 AM
8

This is important, and gets asked a lot of men in relationship advice threads: what does she bring to the relationship? And secondly, is what she brings equivalent to what you bring? Is it more? If there's an imbalance, that should be rectified prior to marriage.
/r/MensRights28/10/13 04:38 AM
2

Yeah the decision to opt out of either having a baby or supporting a baby needs to be an informed one: the potential mother needs to inform the potential father of her decision, and the potential father needs to inform the potential mother of his intentions to support a child. The fathers decision may affect the mothers decision and as such this arrangement would have a limited time of effectiveness. This can be abused by both parties potentially, but it's better than what we have now.
/r/MensRights28/10/13 04:36 AM
10

If we want to be consistent with abortion laws as they stand now, if a couple gets pregnant, there should be two decisions to be made: To carry the baby to term or abort it (mother's decision). If the woman were to carry the baby to term, if the father is going to support that child. (father's decision) The other logical conclusion is to ban abortion and enforce child support payments. Any mixture of the two is logically inconsistent.

I'm pro-life, in general, and realize that is probably not the majority opinion here. In reading the article, it looks like they now share 50/50 custody since the original ruling of $8000/month when she only had custody 4% of the time (which was ludicrous then as it is now). So 50% of custody is 12X more than before, and 12x8k = $96k/month. Really, she's offering him a savings of $8k/month. What a bargain. /s

First comment: I was prepared to agree with Wolf, because she's right that feminism still benefits upper-class women more than working-class, but she's either uninformed about the feminist discourse, or she's trying to impede it. Clearly working-class women have a lot in common with working-class men, but so do upper-class women and working class women, just in different ways. It's called "intersectionality." We all have different things in common with different people. A female CEO probably can…

More and more feminists are actually trying to distance themselves from Patriarchy theory as well. You won't curry any favour with AVFM or /r/MensRights if you still consider Patriarchy theory to be valid.

I really find the comparisons between prostate cancer and breast cancer to be a bit off. Breast Cancer prevalence in earlier years makes me feel this way. True, a lot of men die from prostate cancer, but they do so with great numbers in their 70s. Breast cancer prevalence starts in the 30s and 40s. Comparing the two seems a bit disingenuous.

I was not a very athletic kid, but I still played sports all the time because I enjoyed playing them. Still do, even though I'm no more athletic now. If you like doing something, provided it's not illegal and you're not hurting someone, do it. Don't let society tell you what you can and cannot do.

It can also get you: arrested for public intoxication arrested for drunk driving physically hurt (alcohol poisoning, injury while falling) arrested for doing stupid/illegal things while judgment impaired (including perpetrating rape) And a slew of many other things. I made a decision a while ago to not get drunk anymore, and I'm constantly reminded that this was a good decision on my part.

My experiences with being "blackout drunk" are few, but I definitely did stuff while "blackout drunk" that I normally would never do whilst sober. For example, I apparently smoke while I'm really drunk. I would never do such a thing while sober (I do not enjoy it at all). I found this out because my cohorts on a night on the town decided to get me to do stuff I normally wouldn't. Thankfully my cohorts weren't complete douchebags like this "Joe" character, so I only ended up doing pretty mundane …

Since you've made it known that you weren't being sarcastic, I'll engage. The ages of the girls in this story are 13/14. I notice in your comparison you say "a man peering in Katy perry's room poses a genuine threat". Why not say "a 13 year old boy peering in Katy Perry's room poses a genuine threat" to be consistent? Would Katy Perry need to "woman up" if she decided to throw a hissy fit over a couple 13/14 year olds sneaking a peek at her, and stealing her knickers?

I think that alot of the topics that are covered in Mens Rights are very diverse and people can have different opinions on things. At times, it can get a little groupthinky when people have some different opinions or ideas about certain topics. Also, I think the line between bashing feminism/feminists and bashing women sometimes gets crossed. Not as often as some would insinuate, but it happens.

Thus the problem with the whole concept of "Enthusiastic Consent". Both genders are not expected to follow it, leading to confusion.
/r/MensRights10/10/13 07:47 PM

Just a note, the OP of that thread has been updating/commenting. He says that she is the one who initiated the BJ, not him. This is an important part of the story that there was much confusion on earlier.
/r/MensRights10/10/13 07:42 PM
1

And basically: You're going in with the assumption that it's rape unless there's clear, enthusiastic consent from the woman, and that's not true. Anyone who's actually been in a healthy relationship can tell you there's more to it than waiting for your lover to say "yes" every single step of the way. Is the crux of the problem with these types of cases. Well put.

How is the BJ inconsequential? Sounds like some time had past between the BJ and the intercourse. I don't believe the OP of the thread in question ever stated that she gave consent, more that she didn't refuse.

I would interpret the skittishness about being caught getting/giving a BJ out in public. Pretty sure you can be arrested for public indecency for such a thing. The other option is that she was having regrets about this action then. The lesson for the girl (it sounds like they're teenagers) is to better communicate her desires. The lesson for the boy is to break off any sort of sexual activity at the first sign of apprehension from the girl. I would hesitate to state either way as to whose "fault…

Well, you have my thoughts up there, and without me overly biasing my actual opinion, the "it's not rape" argument is HEAVILY based on a LARGE assumption as to what the girl in the story meant. My "this can be considered rape" argument: She explicitly said she didn't want to have sex that weekend. If you assume she meant intercourse in, oral sex doesn't "negate that". She's sending mixed-signals, but is not directly invalidating her request, if you assume she meant intercourse. Feminist "enthusiastic consent" argument that this is rape (not my argument): What she did previous to intercourse is irrelevant, she never explicitly said she wanted to engage in intercourse, therefore consent …

Well, it depends on if you think "being a proponent of one model, but not seeking to outlaw other models" to be a uniquely Liberal viewpoint. Personally, I would describe myself as "Centrist" or "Centralist"? I'm not even sure which is valid. This way I can pick and choose which idealogical views from both left and right I want to subscribe to without all the crappy other views that can come from going too far on either end of the spectrum.

I will try and find it for you. I'm pretty sure it was posted here to /r/MensRights , and it was an article about a professor/researcher at a university (Harvard perhaps?) who was a bit disappointed at the number of women at her university who expressed their intent to take some years off to raise kids, even though they were in lucrative programs that could've yielded well-paying jobs. I think this is a bit of projection from the feminist side. A lot of them claim to want to "destroy gender roles", and for some that means opening up the door to other gender roles. But for others, it means that by adhering to traditional gender roles you're some sort of gender traitor, and someone who is a victim of patriarchy, or an enforcer of it.
/r/MensRights07/10/13 03:27 PM

I think most people who are espouse traditionalist views here (and I lean that way, to be honest) are more interested in not having the traditionalist model villified, but available as a valid model to be used within the confines of a relationship. It should not be the ONLY model, because that's kinda fascist. My marriage is on the traditionalist side of things, but even I recognize that it is not for everyone, nor should it be.

There's a limit to what a person can do in self defense. Someone can't just beat someone to a bloody pulp because they put then in a headlock for a couple seconds, as an analogy. The "self defense" must be somewhat reciprocal to the initial attack. Otherwise the person has gone past the realm of self defense.

While I think that a) this isn't rape, it's sexual assault since sexual organs were abused, and b) Dude went to far in retaliation, I still think it's ridiculous one party in this fight (let's call it what it is) escaped unscatched from repercussion. If two men get into a scrap in a parking lot, charges should be brought up against both of them assuming they both initiated the fight. I don't see that happening in this scenario.
