How can you act as if the word “macho” has no relation at all with the concept of “machismo”. Although the definitions that you mention are right, we both know that’s not the context in which the word is commonly used. Maybe in Spain you use it more lightly, but how can you deny its connection with “machismo”. As in the sense of being a primitive misogynist male who treats women as objects. At least in Latin America decent educated men don’t like to be associated with the word “macho”. Even my grandpa for lords sake who was born in 1914 used to say that he prefers to be a “caballero” before a “macho”.
