If it was exactly the same across all races/gender that would prove that they are forcing equal pay regardless of performance, and if the difference is too much then it shows that one race/gender is being favored for some reason. Ideally you have a very close but not exactly 0 pay difference between races/genders (unless your sample size is infinitely large).

Money isn't an issue for us but I'll be damned if places like Red Lobster cater closer to our taste. This idea that "more expensive = better tasting" is insane, some of the best food I've ever had is cheap "poor people" food. Another (separate) issue is that way too much weight is placed on interviews, which can create a much stronger bias towards social skills versus actual development skills. It's good to be able to socialize well and work with a team, but not at the cost of being a bad developer.
