I bought a mattress recently for over $1K. I went to the first store, listened to the sales guy's explanation, then asked for time to just try out the mattresses. I picked one out, but I never buy from the first place I go without checking out at least one other option. I got the guy's card and went to a different store. At the second store, the sales guy wouldn't leave me alone. He was so thirsty I couldn't deal with it. They had great mattresses, but I left, went back to the first store and bo…

Sorry, let me clarify. I wasn't trying to make a point so much as trying to get a clearer view of the opinions here. My theory I expressed in the OP has to do with the social dynamics I see in play, but also the suicide statistics that I didn't mention in the OP. tteabag2591 put forth that having babies is the only reason for men to get into relationships with women. That point of view didn't exactly address the thought I was having (except to say that women have nothing to offer besides childre…

I've seen this opinion expressed here before. How do you personally account for the high suicide rate for divorced men? One account, for reference: https://www.fatherly.com/health-science/psychological-effects-divorce-fathers-men-suicide/

Part of what got me thinking about this is the very high suicide rate among divorced and widowed men. These are a group of men who have, largely, already had children with women, but when they lose the woman they have a much higher risk of suicide. If the relationship were only about the sex or the children, why would they become suicidal? Why is it (the jump in suicide risk after losing a LTR) a bigger difference for men than women?

I agree. I actually get very inspired and spiritual when I smoke. I often write while high, even though I rarely write anything meaningful when sober. It quiets the logical, critical side of my brain and opens up some creativity. But that's just me. I have watched many friends just dissolve into the couch.

Thank you for a great post. I'm curious what your goals and values are now, post-metamorphosis? You write as if you were a lesser man at 27 than 21, but it sounds like you have a much deeper understanding and appreciation of who you are, now.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
