The laws are same for traditionally arranged marriages or love marriages! No difference. More here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nisha_Sharma_dowry_case?wprov=sfla1

It was named so by the organizers, USA International Men's Day. Will consider this as a constructive feedback and convey them. Thanks for the advice.

Dowry system still prevails. Those wives who love their hubbys quarrel with their parents to give them more. In the name of Hubby, the fight with the siblings, if they are sharing property. And the hubbys remain thankful to their wives forever. Typical Indian stuff. A foreigner will not be able to understand the logic. Also the more the dowry is, the more prestigious to both the parties!

It all started in the 80's. When discrimination of girl child/women was voiced out. Families felt the society should relax about women working and dowry system should end. Media was not that powerful, but the mainstream movies did this a lot. India was being impacted by movies that time. By 90s women started being educated more and more and started opting for jobs. Liberalization and Globalization opened door for businesses and they flourished. However, use or misuse of these laws was not much t…

Thank you. There is a lotta stuff on the internet on IPC 498-A, and much more stuff on its misuse. Still, here's a snapshot: Any woman (who is in the place of wife), can file a case on any of her family members (husband, his parents, his siblings and their children, women in these places not considered as women) that she is being subject to Dowry Harassment and Domestic Violence. The draconian law was initially Non-Bailable (which means the accused cannot get a bail) and Non-Compoundable (which …

Was your question, what made her reply this? Or was it, why is Men's Day concerned about Boy's Day?

That was at the beginning. Before she launched criminal cases on him. Later, he changed his mind when she was stubborn, even after he sent relatives to settle the matter out of court.

You can search Times of India and Deccan Chronicle with Hasin Jahan. She was born in poverty Got married at 14 to a poor man. Had two daughters with him and divorced him She further got educated and joined as a cheerleader. Attracted Shami's attention. She told her daughters were not her's, but her dead sister's. Lived with him for two years and got married to him Shami's villagers treated her like a princess. Shami's kin and kith respected her. They allocated a separate room to her in their hou…

True. If Men Going Their Own Way (MGTOW) is trending in India, the draconian, partial Indian Laws are responsible for it!
