I agree, i do like egalitarianism! I just think it would be nice to have groups focussed on specifically male issued too. Lots of overlap, but IMO, its best to have feminism, egalitarianism, and mens rights as all equially valid and important discussion- with slightly different focuses. theya re all such complex issues, it woudl gte lost all mashe dup into one subject.

I used to try to defend it by saying it was just a vocal minority, but that appears not to be the case anymore.... I agree, its incredibly embarrassing to be associated with. I dont know of another movement that encompasses what you said- all of which i agree is real mens rights- but id be very willing to try to start something. Egalitariansim doesnt quite cut it for me, because i do want a group focused on MENS rights, just like feminism is useful for WOMENS rights. That doesnt invalidate other…

form the name, i literally expect a documentary in support of red pill ideology- im pretty sure thats the intention. it will definately hurt marketing, considering how many people know of and hate the red pill.

if that true, then i take it back. however, i find it really hard to belive that they would name it after something that is as well known as the red pill sub, considering they are discussing the exact same issues, and she followed around people that are definately involved with that ideology. If you would help me find something that distances it from that ideology, id like to see it

You comment is pretty strange- I would love for the pond to get submerged by genuine discussion and have the "water leverl " rise. The problem is, its filling with toxic sludge, not actual meaningful debate and real change. I live in central amercia now bro- my activism is working to save rainforest, working with indigenous tribes, and running animal shelters. Thats my job. The bitcoin comment doesnt even make any sense, because Bitcoin is doing fine- great actually. Were you trying to be clever…

Fuck. This is my sign that this sub has become completely fucked up and is no longer about mens rights at all. Its about this fucking crazy, regressive, toxic ideology- i cant even remember the last time ive seen a provocative piece here that has added to the discussions about mens rights. Its all bullshit about how all feminism is wrong and stories about how woman get away with stuff. unhealthy eating habits being pushed as the "manly" thing to do. Its stupid, and affects men negatively, dont you think?

trigger? wtf? This is something that definitely affects men all over, even if you say it doesnt affect you. Youve never heard of food be called "girly" or "manly"? Mens rights is about stupid outdated gender roles- of which eating only meat and potatoes is one of them. That doesnt mean that there arent men who like it, just that its a very prevalent stereotype that is directly counter to the health of MEN. Men feel embarassed about eating girly things, in my experience, especially when theyre ar…

i agree. Howver, a lot of people dont think that it looks unprofessionsal. Sometimes, obviously, their employer thinks otherwise, but othertimes they agree. ANd thats the general trend. hair color and body mods are becoming not tat important to professionalism. the thing i dont see changing is formal/informal attire. Most people would agree on what looks formal/informal to wear for work. And most heavily tatted, pink heard, multiply pierced people would agree (unless they were being purposefully…

Im not saying people like you dont exist! just that the amount of people with that opinion you is much lower than 10 years ago, and much much lower than 20 years ag, and i think that pattern will continue. Heck, there are still epople that think women shoudnt wear pants and interracial marriage is wrong. Not that your opinion is related to these, but i eman both are on the way out, even if there are idiosyncratic holdouts.
/r/MensRights11/04/16 05:53 PM

I agree with you- its obviosuly more nuanced than my knee jerk reaction, But i guess my point it: Proffessionalism is changing. Of course, some people will always think differently, but society is getting mroe and more liberal about hair styles and tats in proffessional setting, and theres no reason to think its gonna reverse. So to call someone who is holding a professional job unprossional is a bit closed minded- obviously, everyone who matters in that job doesnt seem to mind. You coudl say it…

all cells are alive.... i would never say a fetus isnt alive, just that it isnt any more alive than a sperm cell, and not worthy of any more consideration (unlike a human being)
/r/MensRights27/02/14 09:19 AM
1

yes, thats what laws are made for. they might get some phone calls, but no arrest could possibly be made, as long as you werent doing anythign sexual. It would literally be illegal to arrest you for doing nothing wrong. I dont know how to be more clear.
/r/MensRights27/02/14 08:51 AM
2

I could say the exact same same thing about sperm. Put it in the right place, as its done millions of times before, and it will become a baby. same thing for a fertilized egg. take either of those out of the right place, and neither will become a baby.
/r/MensRights27/02/14 08:50 AM
1

I was talking about a fertilized egg. it will never produce a baby on its own. it need the help and support of millions of other cells to stay alive long enough to become a baby. It literally takes what other cells give it, and intergrates those into itself, then keeps on dividing. How is that any different than a sperm needing another cell to become a baby? I dont think masturbating is bad....or menstrating... i think you got confused
/r/MensRights27/02/14 08:45 AM
0

yes, actually, sperm cells do become babies. they just need another cell to help them. A fertilized egg cell also needs help from other cells, it would die on its own. Tell me why they dont have the same status, then.
/r/MensRights27/02/14 08:39 AM
-9

awww, you think killing a bunch of cells is wrong? do you feel just as bad when you scratch your arm and kill all those helpless skin cells? or when you jack off and kill all thos eprecious sperm that could have become babies?

because you have the chromosomes for male or female from the begining? just like each of your skin cells does. it doesnt mean your a person...it means it has DNA, like every other cell on earth. nobody thinks fetuses arent alive, just that they arent people yet. just cells

yeah, its very nice to be able to be nude. It doesngt have to be seen as gross, i think tis very detrimental to have that as a law. After all, just because some people are muslim and think all women should cover their hair, doesnt mean we make it a law. We should be tolerant of other peoples choices about their own body. and by the way, nude people bring a towel around with them to sit on.
/r/MensRights27/02/14 02:44 AM

yeah, the same thing happens when girls hit on you. if they dont make me feel attracted to them, then im not going to be attracted to them. Why is that so weird? show me some "goddam research" that isnt a some blog post or a bunch of guys talking about it. I agree that women are the primary purportrators of slut shaming- i never denied that. BUt men also do it tooo, to a lesser extent. Same with virgin shaming- men and women do it, though one side more than the other

I disagree, ive heard my male friends call girls sluts too. not as often as women, but its not negligible. Maybe you just have a different circle of friends? if you really do disagreew with the freind zone thing, i still suggest you change the language, unless you are just preaching to the choir.
/r/MensRights10/02/14 11:15 PM
1

how about you start by not using such divisive language as "freind zone" Everyone has a "freind zone"- its not some magical psychological state that women fall into. It just means "Im not romatically interested in you". Its not even worth noting, its so common to both men and women. if they dont want to be with you, its not cause you did something to be in the "friend zone"- its that they dont like you like that, just like you dont like some girls like that. Saying that its a special state of be…

i dont understand- If a man doesnt sign the contract, then the woman should just assume hes not going to be there. Seems pretty straightforward. If hes avoiding her to feign ignorance for 23 weeks, why would she think hes gonna be there after? i understand that soem people live in delusion, but this seems like an easy way to remove ambiguity: If there is going to be a father providing for the child, then hes signed the form. If he hasnt signed, assume hes not going to be there, and react accordi…

let it be known that I never consensually opt-in for a child when i have sex. I think the othe rposter makes a valid point that a woman must be opt-out, since she can have no choice when she "opts in". therefor, they state that man must similarly "opt out". But the difference is that a woman KNOWS she is pregnant, or can find out. A man has no way to know if he has a child that is his until the mother tells him. A woman inenrently KNOWS she must opt out, while a man has no way of knowing he even…
/r/MensRights09/01/14 07:03 PM

no, he only has a limited time to sign, which ends well before she can choose to abort- thats the point of the paper. There doesnt have to be any "promises" if hes saying he will support the child, then he should just sign the paper immediently. It wouldnt mke sense for him to promise to take care of the kid, but be unwilling to sign.
/r/MensRights09/01/14 06:54 PM
5

but then is easy enough for a woman to not inform a man that she is pregnant- there has to be some way for the man to confirm that he even knows about the pregnancy in order to walk away from it.
/r/MensRights09/01/14 06:37 PM
3

i thought of it like a contract that a man must sign in order to give his paternal responsibilities. If he signs it, then he is bound to provide for the child for life. If he doesnt, he can walk away

the movement needs people who will make a statement and back it up with actual information, not vitriol. if you "have a backbone" and all your using for is insults and bullshit, instead of thoughtful posts that might actually convince someone, who the hell do you think youre helping? the only people who you make feel good is people who already think the exact same thing you do. its like preaching to the choir, excpt the choir is full of assholes who wont take the time to actually help us

I still dont think being "emotional" is bad man. I like my emotion. its what spurs me to care about what is happening to other people. people think you can be "purely rational" but a quick peruse of the data shows this to just be hear-say. our emotion is intricately linked up with ou cognitive function. You cant just delete emotion out of an equation, because it allows you to make the assumptions that your "rational" has to deal with. maybe you should just use the word "victimized". I do think t…

yeah, you asked me about what my line was, and I answered. its a fuzzy line, i agree, but thats where ive drawn it and why. I know they have some experience in the womb, but its not interaction- its just stimulus. I think concioussness needs interaction, not just stimulus.

ah, once its in the world, it has experience, so no.
/r/MensRights06/07/13 08:24 PM

i bas eit on whether it has consiouss thoughts or feelings. I do not believe a fetus with no experience of the world has a consiouss mind. it has the potential to be one, once it experiences things and interacts with them (interaction is vital). I dont think it does enough of this to be "consciouss" until it leaves the womb.

its not a power OVER someone, necessarily, it's that you have power that someone else doesnt have. saying someone has privileged over someone else just means you have more power in that situation, not necessarily that you can control them or anything (i say "necessarily' a lot because there are a few examples i can think of, but they are not pivotal to my point)

Interesting point, I would like to see how many films pass this test. I can think of quite a few, though.... and to be fair, it should only be in films where someone dies at all. Spider man, no country for old men, and almost any movie with a female villan (disney movies, The old batman...) EDIT: hey! thats actually a really interesting argument. /r/MensRights18/03/13 05:27 PM

eh...Id have to see some numbers on this. It sounds like a complicated subject.... maybe the reason they make more money is because they are in demand more, because more blockbuster movies are written with male leads? I think blockbusters always make tons of money, so they always pay their actors more.
/r/MensRights17/03/13 10:33 PM

some of them sure, but its not fair to make generalizations and, frankyl, sexist remarks like you did
/r/MensRights17/03/13 10:16 PM

and I never talked about a "strong female character"...... i was talking just about having an equal representation of roles in media. Its true, most males wouldnt fit that either- thats fine. its called being realistic.
/r/MensRights17/03/13 10:13 PM
1

but you can totally have believable storylines that dont reflect that. Codifying in all the movies you see is only going to encourage it more, instead of giving all genders role models to look at.
/r/MensRights17/03/13 10:10 PM
1

In this case, the reasonable irritation comes from the fact that there aren't as many women in primary protagonist roles compared to men, and the main role of secondary protagonists is advancing the plot This is the point. and the example you gave of an "inverted bechedel test" is totally off...you just assigned arbitrary guidlines that are by definition hard to meet. /r/MensRights17/03/13 06:36 PM

sure, just like religious art is not a "problem" the problem is the underlying gender inequality it highlights- the movies are fine, the assumption that females only talk about men is not
/r/MensRights17/03/13 06:35 PM

i dont understand the point you re making. Why is it so easy for the test to pass with the genders reversed, but not for females?
/r/MensRights17/03/13 06:31 PM

maybe, but enough that they would get almost zero representation of other conversations? i dont think so. They talk about lots of other things too, but you wouldnt know that from the movies.
/r/MensRights17/03/13 06:21 PM
2

ok, so maybe it would be acceptable for a period piece. but most of these movies take place in the modern era. average male conversation is not usually any more important than the female one nowadays. Yet we still pretend that we are dealing with 18th century women? Its not denying reality. Its out of date.

im sorry you hang around dumb people. I assure you it's not the case that they dont talk about lots of other things. At least, the girls i hang around dont- i often interject into interesting conversations my female freidns are having. Have you been to college?

agreed. its just a test meant to highlight a problem

you are so stupid. first, they have to be named female characters. second, why is this such a problem? its a legitimate concern. why does almost every film pass this test for men (ie two named men takling about something other than a women) but hardly ever passes for a women? it sure sounds crazy to me, especially if you really are claiming that there is nothing to complain about.
/r/MensRights17/03/13 10:45 AM

the point still stands that if you reverse the genders, most films pass. why are there all these men talking about important things, but not women?
/r/MensRights17/03/13 10:42 AM

youre saying that youve not seen two women in real life discussing something other than men or another women? Is that what youre saying?

because its not a statement on logic... its a statement on how things actually are. Sociology and psychology is usually a soft science, not a hard one. It makes non-contridictory, logical sense that my dog could be thinking about murder all day, but I do not think that is the case, because reasons.

I know quite a bit. I do research. I wanted to find some graphs for different proffesions, say, how has the rate of men as nurses changed, versus women as CEO's or something similar showing that mobility has increased for women, but not as much for men

This guy is out of touch. Don't feed him. You are right about gender roles varying in cultures. Im interested in methods of how to discuss the implications of that, and how to present it most effectively, not argue something as blatently obvious as the existence of gender roles, like this cuntsack wants to.

examples? I dont see them as necessarily illogical, just social theories that i disagree with.

uh, no I'd rather use the class for its intended purpose. Theres smart and receptive people there, i just want to end the circle jerk. My point is that none of it is INHERENTLY stupid, just presented without evidence. it all sounds plausible, when viewed in a certain way, i just think it's wrong. i want to change the frame of the discussion to evidence based, and towards gender roles, not patriarchy

Building on what others have said here, you could even try proposing to her. get a fancy looking ring and everything. But tell her you cant marry her while shes pregnant, because you are planning for your future together, and want to make sure the children will be provided for.

ooooh, are we trading bible foreskin stories now? heres my favorite. its from the book of samuel. 18:20 And Michal Saul's daughter loved David: and they told Saul, and the thing pleased him. David Mutilates 200, Gets Married 18:21 And Saul said, I will give him her, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. Wherefore Saul said to David, Thou shalt this day be my son in law in the one of the twain. 18:22 And Saul commanded his servants, saying, Commu…

but isnt that still implying that anything that is not a "mans work" is still bad? Im looking for something that points out the fact that "womans work" is not seen as inherently derogatory because it is for women this argument gives it context, but does nothing to show that 'womens work" is not inherently derogatory

I know this one in surprising detail! it's a biblical story, I think it was about king nebechenezzer (sp?) he's a dick, and shit happens, so at one point, a disembodied hand appears and writes on the wall with it's finger "mene mene tekel upharsin" (approximation- i refuse to look this up) the phrase basically means "your days are limited" or "you're fucked, dude" because after that God brought him down, and his reign was over hence "writing on the wall"

but commitment /= legal union ceremonies are great. commitments are wonderful. All the stupid legal hassle is a pointless institution. just makes it so much harder to end it when it really is time to end the only way that MIGHT be worth it is for tax reasons, but I think that might be changed

wow, thanks for the link to the article its a very complicated subject looks like the best study i can find puts the figure at 5.9%, which is higher than the average 2% for false claims of other crimes. I have to think about how to interpret this now. Lisak, David; Gardinier, Lori; Nicksa, Sarah C.; Cote, Ashley M. (2010). "False Allegations of Sexual Assualt: An Analysis of Ten Years of Reported Cases". Violence Against Women

Its a good start. but like you said, doesnt mean "false accusation". from the article: This statistic is almost meaningless, as many of the jurisdictions from which the FBI collects data on crime use different definitions of, or criteria for, "unfounded." Also, is it refering to cases brought to court? or all cases studied? and im sure someone has done a study on just false accusations, and im sure someone on here has it... please upvote im gonna look at the report on wiki in the meantime

isnt FGM the removal of the clitoris? that seems different than the skin around the head of a penis. While it does shield the glans and make it more sensitive, does it really affect pleasure that much? is there a way for us to know? also, doesnt the removal of the skin lessen the communicability of some STDs? not that this is a justification, but it is something to consider. If I had a choice, and I knew that it would only affect my pleasure a little bit, I'd actually choose to have a lower inci…

could you link me, or direct me, or explain to me, why MGM is so bad? I know a few things, like the sensitivity issue, and I get that its a non-consensual amputation of a newborn is morally repulsive. but what are the actual negative effects?
