If you live close to downtown, it's usually pretty easy to find a non-chain restaurant that serves good food. If you are going to ask the pacsun girl out, just tell her upfront that you are leaving for school soon and aren't looking for anything serious. If she says no, sure you'll be embarrassed but you probably won't ever see her again. The leaving for college part is a bit tricky. I'd say there is no harm going on a date before you go but long distance can be really tough, especially if you don't have a solid foundation.
