I really don't see where the post indicates that he's definitely talking about being overweight, but if that's dependent upon context from an earlier comment I'm not sure it's relevant to the basis of the argument. The argument as I see it is that women are biologically predisposed to gain/retain fat, and those fat deposits have historically functioned as indicators of fertility. And yeah, that doesn't necessarily change if a woman is very fit.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/11/24 05:59 PM

He already indicated that he wasn't talking about obesity. You are both saying the same thing: women carry more fat.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/11/24 05:50 PM

I don't think consuming junk food necessarily indicates health/fertility. I think the bottom-line argument is that "women with higher estrogen are more likely to crave calorically dense foods and once consuming them are also more likely to retain weight, and all of that is working as designed."
/r/PurplePillDebate10/11/24 05:46 PM
1

Junk food is highly caloric. Our brains/bodies know that. Take a bite of something high in fat and sugar, and the brain (which developed strategies to survive starvation over many centuries) says "oh, this is going to give me A LOT of calories, this is a good energy source." Add in the fact that it's designed to taste good and that's where cravings come from.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/11/24 05:39 PM

Calories in general. But that's more likely due to the fact that high estrogen often leads to high cortisol.

I was diagnosed with severe arthritis when I turned 30. It blew out both my hips and fused my spine so I was in a wheelchair for a few years. After joint replacements and about 2 years of PT I can walk again, but I still have a bad limp and use a walker or a cane.

I love it when I remember to do it. It really does feel like someone wiped the scum off my brain. It makes everything clearer, makes me calmer and more focused, makes the world feel easier to interact with.

Do you think our ancestors pulled that? Fuckin pioneers out there like "waaah I don't wanna work I need to sniff panties" no. Absolutely not. Civilization was not built on that attitude. Being disabled (and talking to disabled men) is something that has really put the "male loneliness" issue into perspective for me. As a visibly disabled woman, people are generally very kind to me - holding open doors, helping me with things in the store, really going out of their way to assist me and ask me what I need when I'm out in public. It isn't difficult to find support if I need it, both in context of my immediate community and when it comes to general strangers. Granted, I do try to re…

No. But you can decide how much of your finite time and energy to put towards contemplating your lack of a relationship. You can decide how much meaning a relationship would hold in the greater context of your life, and whether or not it outweighs other parts of life. To a certain extent, having a romantic relationship is outside of your control (insofar as it's also dependent on another person being willing to enter that relationship.) I'd question how much power you want to give something you …

Faith, family, friendship, community, nature, art, philosophy, literature, technology, travel, culture, career, health, personal wellbeing...if you cannot think of a single meaningful thing in life outside of romantic relationships, I think that's a sign that you need to start exploring the world more deeply.

In general, humans forget how adaptable we are and often shoot ourselves in the foot by convincing ourselves we aren't. No one thing defines success/happiness/wellbeing. Focusing on what you lack is limiting across the board.

I am not sure how your belief is relevant. It doesn't change the lack of sexual attraction.

/r/PurplePillDebate10/11/24 12:14 AM
3

I've done it. It's really fun but the vibe probably depends on where you live. Usually people just listen/smile/clap, you hang out for a bit and chat with them, sometimes people show off their lights/decorations around their house...the whole thing just makes people feel nice, and comes with the bonus of getting to know your neighbors better. I've also done it at nursing homes before, they're usually very enthusiastic audience members!

I wouldn't see it happen because I'm too conflict avoidant. The second there's any tension I'm leaving the premises lol
/r/PurplePillDebate10/11/24 12:08 AM
1

That really sucks. I think I'm lucky that men don't typically see me as a sexual prospect lol, so that might make it easier to pull off a compliment without them misreading some kind of flirty energy behind it
/r/PurplePillDebate10/11/24 12:05 AM
1

I could understand that if the compliment came from an attractive woman maybe. But I'd be very surprised if men gave interactions with me much thought afterwards.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/11/24 11:59 PM
1

Yes, women do that too.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/11/24 11:40 PM
1

Do you mind explaining what makes it a bad idea? (For some context here I'm autistic, so maybe there is something I'm really missing. I understand that some men might take compliments as an indicator of interest, but I'd say that's on them for extrapolating a narrative out of a perfectly simple surface-level interaction.)
/r/PurplePillDebate09/11/24 11:34 PM
2

The "women never compliment men" thing does make me really sad. I've started trying to compliment at least one stranger every time I'm out in public. About their shirt, tattoos, general style, their smile, the book they're reading, whatever. Both men and women always seem really happy about it and it starts some fun conversations. I really don't understand why people don't compliment people more. It's an inherently rewarding thing to do and it has no downside imo.

gonna have to stop complimenting men now I guess :(

There is quite a bit of serious literary fiction published today. You just won't usually find it discussed on TikTok and such.

Yeah, the market responds to the audience. If men aren't consuming as much as women, they'll inevitably play less of a role in determining what gets published/how it gets published/etc.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/11/24 05:15 AM

This topic is particularly interesting to me because fiction novels were historically seen as an inferior form of literature (as compared to poetry) and they were closely associated with female readers...so the writing was thought to be overly sentimental, mawkish, etc. Essentially an "unmasculine" form of literature. And now we've reached a point where the publishing market for fiction arguably alienates men, or at the very least tends to be more visibly dominated by women (who also tend to do …

I like non-sexual intimacy but I don't really crave it. It's just nice when it happens. I also don't really mind the idea of sexual intimacy if I were to end up with a partner who wanted it. But it's not something I feel any drive to pursue. End result is I mostly go for guys who also describe themselves as asexual/demi/grey etc. It's hard to explain to other people, but most of them get it.

/r/PurplePillDebate08/11/24 04:28 PM

If I swipe right on a 5'6" guy, it means I want to go on a date with that guy. There isn't some super secret subconscious processing happening beneath the surface. There is no "initial preference" that was not met elsewhere. I assess individuals on a person-by-person basis, and if I think I would have a good time with them, I say yes. Some of you make this sound way more complex than it actually is.

Right. That's why I said the arguments are very funny as someone whose primary experience is black bears. They're my first thought when someone says "bear," and approaching the question with that biased perspective makes the whole debate feel ridiculous. Q4M: do you care if a woman doesn't list her political affiliation on dating apps? (Assuming you're looking for something serious/long-term, not just casual) I've seen women say they notice when men leave it blank. Wondering how it works the other way around.

There's a good quote about how the disabled is the only minority anyone can suddenly/unexpectedly join at any point in their life. Lots of people think they'll never end up in such a position...or if they do end up there, they'll magically be better equipped to navigate the systemic challenges...or they'll bootstrap their way right back out again. A sad number of people vote against affordable/accessible healthcare and then wonder why they can't get it when they need it.

please sir, may I have some more rights sir?
/r/PurplePillDebate08/11/24 01:04 PM

Yeah, if you don't think of a more aggressive species then the whole discussion sounds ridiculous. "Women actually say they'd rather encounter a bear!!!" meanwhile the bear in question is bumbling around trying to open a bear-proof trash can and gets scared when you clap your hands. It doesn't work lol
/r/PurplePillDebate08/11/24 12:54 PM
1

I go out west a lot and it's so fascinating to compare the advice for dealing with black bears vs grizzly bears. Black bears are like "make lots of noise, make yourself big and visible, if they get aggressive then punch them in the face!" Grizzlies are like "pretend you're already dead, start praying"
/r/PurplePillDebate08/11/24 12:41 PM
2

is that what inspired the bear scene in BG3
/r/PurplePillDebate08/11/24 12:37 PM

Black bears kill less than one person per year on average. People who get attacked by them are (usually) not using common sense around wildlife. Or they're doing something like trying to protect their dog who started fighting one.

Pain/suffering is where people are sharpened. You don't learn resiliency if you have nothing to get through. You don't learn courage if you have nothing to be scared of. You don't learn patience if nothing slows you down. You don't learn persistence if you have no obstacles to overcome.

I always try not to judge in those situations. Yeah, last time I used it was probably around 2012? I dated a guy I met through it for about 10 years. Parted on good terms, it was all a solidly decent experience. Seems like a totally different landscape now. Everyone is tapped out/disillusioned, nobody really wants to talk about anything.

I can only speak for myself, but as a Christian, my belief has involved a whole lot of questioning. Doubt and critical reflection are important components of faith, and the ultimate goal (I believe) is to constantly deepen our understanding of the universe. The rules of religion provide some wisdom and guidance, but I don't think the true intention is "abide by these rules without examining them or without understanding them," even though others try to present it that way.

Right. I'd argue all disabled people do, or at least that has certainly been my experience as a disabled woman. But unfortunately that desire isn't always realistic. The implication that all men are independent workers while all women are societal drains feels like a vast oversimplification.

It makes me sad that people are legitimately that afraid right now. While I don't feel like I can comment on how valid some of these concerns may or may not be, I do think there has been a lot of content adding fuel to the panic fire, and I don't think all of it is well-intentioned. Some of it feels like another way of encouraging division: "you are not safe, people are out to get you, you must isolate and protect yourself."

The last guy I had a crush on was kind of an incel. I'd stay up chatting with him all night, he'd vent about all his issues while we played video games. I tried to be really supportive. I'd give him little cheesy gifts to encourage him, made him playlists, etc. Always made myself available to hang out, sent him dumb flirty memes, complimented him/gassed him up all the time because I thought he was genuinely awesome. He was doing a fighting game tournament and for good luck, I baked him brownies …

/r/PurplePillDebate07/11/24 01:14 PM
3

Most people here stick to a fairly conservative dress code for Court, with pants or skirts past the knee. It's not enforced, it's just an expectation and a matter of respect. But a lot of that probably comes down to the area you live in.
/r/PurplePillDebate07/11/24 01:03 PM

they both sound nice
/r/PurplePillDebate07/11/24 01:00 PM

When people care about a problem, they're more likely to listen and empathize. When people don't care about a problem, they're more likely to tell you to stop venting about it and figure out a solution. I'm not convinced that's necessarily a gender-specific thing.
/r/PurplePillDebate07/11/24 12:58 PM
1

Yep. That's also part of the reason I mostly connected with moderate/conservative men back when I was trying to date. There wasn't pressure to maintain an exactly "correct" perspective on every issue, so there was more room for nuance and discussion.
/r/PurplePillDebate07/11/24 12:41 PM
3

Yep, that last paragraph...I've had friends along all points of the political spectrum, and the further left they get the harder the friendship becomes to maintain. There is very little acceptance of differing opinions, and any miscommunication/slip-up is seen as a personal failing that can't always be rectified through apology. I think you also see this in how people talk about their families. I rarely see conservatives say they're gonna cut off relatives for voting liberal. Whereas I have seen…
