It is disrespect, so imagine you saw one of my friends randomly at a grocery store or anywhere and they didn't even acknowledge you or say hi, most people would consider that rude and weird but in your worldview a text is different. Vehemently disagree. Texting is a super useful form of communication, but it has created this unrealistic expectation that other people should always be available or willing to talk. People have no difficulty understanding the concept of it being unacceptable to show up at someone's house unannounced, or someone not answering the phone when they don't feel like talking, but they get offended when people don't respond to texts.
