Congrats, I am happy that you won. It's rare for an stbx to not do her research and listen to outsiders on what they are entitled to. Luck or no luck, seems you are better off now.

She has primary and I get 1 week a month. The joy my little girl has seeing my friends and family makes it worth driving 6 hours to pick her up. I convince I do more for her with my short period and enjoy criticizing the ex about everything she is doing wrong for the dog. Makes paying alimony feel like doggie support I do enjoy my freedom when I don't have the dog.

Why can alimony go up if the payor's income goes up post divorce? It is like they income is still a joint venture. What happened to the joke when someone wins the lottery after a divorce is final?

I understand the feeling. I did not want her to keep my name because she has done nothing to earn that honor. She thinks she has a better story to tell if she has an ethnic name, and she doesn't want to be associated with the shame from her brothers. I did not tell her because I knew she would make me pay to change her name back. She may think she is independent, but she still needs my name and my money. I view it as she can't get a better life because she can't let go of the past. Now, it is ju…

I block my ex and don't even update LinkedIn in case she tries to snoop through another contact. I assume every stranger connection request is her but probably are scammers.

I stopped arguing over a couple thousand dollars because the back and forth was costly. The payee side knows that and I was paying a portion of her legal fees. If I can advise the higher income partner to protect themselves in case of divorce. When getting married to someone also working, have your retirement accounts grow at the same pace. This may mean the higher earning partner will save less but spend more on non-assets and have fun. Drugs and alcohol can be consumed but the benefits are not…

No way, she decided to leave and take my money with her. We only need to connect because of alimony and coparenting a dog. She took my dog 300 miles away. She once asked me to bring her a special local cake that she doesn't have access to when picking up the dog, I said there is a delivery fee that she didn't want to pay. Not anywhere near a point that favors are done.

Take the genders out of the equation because any lawyer will tell any low income spouse that under CA family law, low income spouse is entitled to alimony, half equity in the house, half retirement accounts earnings during the marriage, and also have them higher earning spouse pay part of your lawyer fees. She'll fight you for it during mediation so expect to lawyer up.

Outside of CS I never understood while thr payor's future earnings is ever considered. It us like everyone is still married and tied together financially.

With my financial background, I know this is a bad idea including cashing out in a down market. After wasting 20 years in a marriage, it is so tempting to be out of a mortgage in 7 years to reset. Some will understand such a drastic option after having their life plans alter this late stage. Ultimately, I know I will refinance and tighten the belt because if I sell, I cannot reenter as a single person. I am lucky to not have kids so NY future is really my own.

This is what I am considering. Refi would increase my payment by $400 which is barely manageable on top of alimony. Also reset my mortgage to 30 years. Or cash portion of 401K to pay her then my current loan at 3.75% will be paid off in 7 years. I get some early security knowing I've be done with the mortgage shortly but the retirement will really be behind. I'll essentially be try to catch up and figure it out later. Talk with friends, seems alot of cash out some retirement to get the down paym…

A dog will change your life if that is what you are ready for. That being said don't take this decision lightly because it is a serious commitment for the rest of the dog's life. There are no returns.

Seems like a lot of men have the Prince Charming syndrome where we want to rescue someone from a bad situation and then it will be a fairy tale ending. There's a reason some families continue to dwell in situations where most would consider undesirable. I feel 2 years is a cheap learning experience compared what I've been through and still pay for. Now I get why the rich get married so often. Get out as soon as the red flags appear and pay short term alimony.

I tell my no adulting skills stbxw that she will have to do her own research if she wants half my crypto shares. If she wants the cash value and not take on the risk, tax implications; and figuring out how to convert it to cash the she has to accept 25%. Her and her attorney said no, so I told them to give me the wallet address. They had no idea what I was talking about. It is going be a damn shame when half of what I accumulated will get lost.
