Lol, I get by. My sister and I both have bachelors degrees. I was in a PhD program, but I dropped out because it did not fit me. It hurt my Dad more than it did me. :D

Exactly. In the military you are a Colonel, outside the military you are an asshole for expecting me to call you Colonel. And don't get me started on Colonels' wives expecting to be called Colonel. They are just the worst...

And there is nothing wrong with that. That is good and appropriate. It becomes obnoxious when someone calls a person Mr. Smith and gets corrected, "It's Dr. Smith." Ugh...

My Dad has a doctorate in entomology, runs a department in a major university, has written books and journals, etc. He never wants to be called Dr. Just call me Fred, he says.

I know. The idea that two political parties or ideologies can represent the viewpoints of everyone is ludicrous. For example, most Americans support legalization of marijuana. The party that most resists legalization are the Republicans. Suppose you support legalization of pot, but you vehemently oppose abortion. You have no party that supports both those views. And that's just two policy points. There are literally hundreds of policies and issues. How can liberal/conservative or Democrat/Republ…

The very idea that all of humanity can be broken into 12 clear personality types is ludicrous. Even more so are the daily horoscopes; a twelfth of the world population will meet the person of their dreams today? Sure...

I used to work in a restaurant. One of the jobs was changing the oil in the fryers. Once a week, all four fryers got emptied and the oil replaced. This meant draining the still-hot oil into the strainer below, rolling it out to the oil collection container, then lifting the trough and pouring it into the container. It was heavy and it was very dangerous. I'm honestly shocked no one ever got their life ruined doing it. Anyway we had some girls who worked in the kitchen, and when they worked the f…

Interestingly, America does not have a "national language". A lot of people here assume it is English, since it is spoken here almost universally, but the United States has never declared a national language. One problem the US faces is that a seemingly large number of people don't know much about our government and laws. One might think we don't teach civics in schools...

I don't like hate crime legislation. Crimes should be punished based on what was done, not the feelings the doer had at the time. I do understand the motivation for this legislation. I just disagree that we should punish people for how they feel. In America, we have the right to say anything we like. I'm not saying there are no consequences. So, if a man hates another man because of the color of his skin, it is protected. If a man punches another man because of the color of his skin, it gets an …

Imagine knowing a woman who can fulfill all of your sexual needs without asking for money.

Well, they do plea deals, so they are effectively reducing sentences to save money on trials already. I agree with you, though. I think technology will eventually have to be the answer. Some sort of always-on personal black box. Men are going to have to give up some privacy to be able to prove they are innocent. The problem with these rape accusations is that sex is something 2 people normally do alone, so the possibility of witnesses to your innocence is zero.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
