Tbf, that's literally how a lot of successful members of minority communities justify opposing benefits for other members of their community. Not saying they're always right or wrong, but the rethoric is the same. "I learned to live with X. Any improvement to the situation now wouldn't benefit me." "Why should the majority have to change their behavior to accommodate a minority like me when I don't even want it" In other words, check your privilege and your internalized leftphobia 🙃

So the video starts with her saying that black women don't owe black men a smile, and then the conversation launches into this dispute about access to mental health resources. What was being discussed before the video started?

I assume the right one is for women but I'd use that anyways because I identify as talkative. It'd be really funny to have the shop owner get mad at me for it, though, because then I could act stupid and have them explain why I went in the wrong bathroom and ask how I was supposed to know. Probably not a store I'd be likely to frequent, though, given they probably find this clever.

But they aren't really the rules, are they? They're just a framework that a handful of people have chosen to use to try and oversimplify a very complicated dynamic. I understand the desire to view the world in such a black and white way of unattractive people and attractive people, but, in my experience, the world is vastly more intricate than that.

I didn't realize this is the kind of sub I was in. It's one thing to be against feminist rhetoric or the predominant views of modern feminism, but it's a whole other thing entirely to break down complex human relationships into this faux commodity market. I get that a lot of people see it that way, but I just figured those people were all red pillers and incels. Of course maybe that's the company I found here.

I mean, I definitely agree with that. I wish there was a way to tell if people were being coerced, but we just don't have that option. Just another one of those things that's a choice between liberty and security.

That's not how a ban works. If I ban kids from chewing gum in school, that's doesn't mean it's "only for kids who don't want to chew gum." How would that even make sense 😂?

Ok, but banning them doesn't allow anyone who wants to wear one do so.

if you can find a non awkward, unforced opportunity to talk to her and see what's up, just to make sure her ignoring you wasn't accidental, go for it. If you guys get along well enough, maybe you could just be friends? Obviously don't try and force that on her if she doesn't want a friendship, either.

Honestly, just get rid of the draft. Seems like a much better option.

Not to argue against your comment, which I think has a lot of validity to it, but there is one thing I'd like to point out: While I can appreciate that she maybe can't help feeling threatened by men and not women, if the situation were about black and white people (say she was a white person who is ok with physical contact from white people and not black people because they are more "threatening") the conversation would be different. I understand the situations aren't exactly the same because I …
