And the thing is you aren't just raising them, they're with you for life. My friend had a sister with special needs, bless her soul, who just turned 40. She will need supervision her whole life, and while I can imagine it being difficult as fuck, as a parent I just think what if one of my two kids had an accident and ended up like that? I'd do whatever I had to for them. No doubt it's a hard thing though....
