Here's a great resource for talking to stubborn teens (and their families) about the dangers of dating a much older guy. https://www.scarleteen.com/article/abuse_assault/why_i_deeply_dislike_your_older_boyfriend?language=de

I've met tradesmen (and tradeswomen!) and the work is tough and the apprenticeships aren't paid as nicely in the beginning (and sometimes aren't paid at first) so the same dipshits that barely graduated high school thinking they wouldn't have to try since they were never going to go to college are likely to wash out of the apprenticeships too. A lot of basic jobs like entry-level construction aren't considered skilled trades or unionized like a specific trade such as an electrician or plumber.

It would look way worse for him if he were to try and slander you. It sounds like he really believes he was entitled to you and, even if he does try to lie to make himself more sympathetic, most people would see right through that and feel that gross attitude. What's stopping you from putting his behavior out there? Does bumble have a complaint form?

Thanks, yeah I have some experience with ACT. It's also pretty helpful.

I've been rooting around in childhood issues the last year or two and I took a break from my regular talk therapy therapist to find someone who specializes in childhood trauma/cptsd and EMDR therapy. It was a game changer. It targets the emotions and reactions around certain memories so that you don't feel defensive or attacked when the therapist tries to loop past experiences with current struggles. I also have an amazing talk therapist though and she's technically barely a therapist, more like…

We agree on the race part, all cultures struggle with misogyny, but have you ever heard rich and middle class parents use the phrase "boys will be boys"? Witnessed the athletes at a school, who need expensive gear and fees and high parent involvement, get away with anything from annoying to criminal behavior because their futures are just too bright? Misogyny happens across socioeconomic lines too.

The problem is who is pushing these children and teens into adult roles. Hold those people accountable for sexualizing, manipulating, and even coercing teens into risky sexual behavior. If they themselves aren't adults yet, we have a chance for intervention and therapy.

She hasn't actually mentioned any statistics, just her personal experience with, in her own words, urban girls in the hood. There was also no self reflection in her story that showed she was taking into consideration any other factors or experiences of those working with teens in other populations. Using "urban" as a stand-in for POC is also a really well-known way to distance yourself from racism so you can continue to perpetuate stereotypes with less blowback and is the dog whistle that origin…

I'm plenty educated on it. I've taught in Title I, majority POC, schools, before moving to suburbia, and "the hood" doesn't have a monopoly on the misogyny that enables lvm/NVM to feel entitled to nudes and girls to feel obligated to provide them. Plenty of the students at the title I school had families that cared for them and prepared them to make safe decisions and there was plenty of white students making poor choices in suburbia. It's astoundingly racist that you would claim this is a "hood…

What do you mean by "urban" communities? Neglecting to teach children about the dangers of sending nudes to one another, without falling into the purity culture pit trap, is a problem that spans race, class, and geography.

"Fine." Pay, leave, and block. Why embarrass yourself and others by making a scene? The process of dating will weed out many losers.

And this was a planned baby?! I'm really baffled that this guy needs so much space away from his wife to deal with his emotions about their unborn baby. What's he going to do when the kid is there and causing stress?

Whoever interacts with him next will be so grateful that you've humbled him and started a paper trail in case his boss needs to take stronger disciplinary action against him!

A dude who cheated on you is marrying someone who would rather focus on taunting you than on her own wedding day. And it's not even her wedding day, it's yours and they have a weird hang-up about it. That's great! Two assholes will keep each other busy while you eat ice cream and take care of your nice car. You're not part of that trainwreck, no matter how desperate they are to invite you in. You have lots to celebrate!

I've found that pickmeishas tend to cast aside female friendships quickly whenever a boyfriend enters the picture so it's easy to just fade away when they aren't looking. LVW also don't tend to actually value your friendship so once you stop giving favors and money to them, they drift away from you. It's painful to realize your friendship wasn't what you thought it was but ultimately necessary.

It's like when dudes make fun of women who are alone on Valentine's day. It's you dude, she did the math and chose loneliness over you lol

If he makes you unhappy and treats you poorly, it doesn't matter if he has a personality disorder or not. Just leave him. There's no need to waste the time trying to psychoanalyze him when you can block him and move on. If you're struggling to leave him, contact your local domestic violence organizations for support.

I've been in a lot of Zoom meetings where mom was interrupted by kids at the dining room table but the dads always seemed to have claim over the spare room with a door.

It's good to reflect on your own values and push yourself to be better for sure but it seems like a waste of time, your time, to date someone you aren't interested in.

That's a weird thing to do to a dude. I don't know if dating dudes out of pity is a high value thing to do in general

Yeah, my sister is still trapped in this cycle of being a pickmeisha for lvm. I intellectually know she needs help desperately but I can't help but be disgusted that she keeps seeking out lvm who are exactly like Dad.

I have a LVM for a dad and we're estranged. I like my paternal grandparents and he lives with them (he's almost 60, they're 80s, and he's not helpful, ugh) so sometimes my grandma catches me up on his misadventures (literal arrests) and I can laugh at them now that I no longer depend on the guy to be my parent but it honestly took therapy to see that his shitty parenting skills (and life skills in general) weren't my fault and move on so that I no longer wasted energy trying to earn his love or …

Generational poverty and trauma are extremely frustrating to me. I have cptsd from my shitty upbringing yet I managed to chew myself free from that trap. I don't understand how the people I grew up with go on to repeat the same mistakes, usually tied to idiot loser men, they watched the adults around us make. I've tolerated a lifetime of losers, including abuse, and am now with my hvm soulmate. I just want to shake them and shout "aren't you fucking sick of this?!" Although Cyntoia was adopted t…
