A desire of a man to be sure the baby is his is not oppressive on its own. But what followed from it was an extremely unjust treatment of women for thousands of years (yes, men were also sometimes enslaved or forcefully conscripted - that is also oppression). What does information propagation have to do with oppression? Separate societies can independently reach the same horrible patterns of behavior: murder, rape, etc. Does it make the victims inferior? An example: multiple unrelated societies were going after anyone who didn't believe in their local gods. Does it mean that scientists are inferior to pagan priests? A woman doesn't have that incentive. This desire is codified in the different legal treatment of adultery.
