Living standards correlate with GDP per capita. only if there is low income inequality and the majority developing countries have very high income inequality. Ah, a malthusian thinking is a little dated.... education isn't the panacea of the developing/underdeveloped world these women need jobs.

3rd world rates? that terminology doesn't exist anymore they are developing countries/emerging markets.. ever hear of the BRICS? GDP correlates with formal labour, so everything that isn't exchanged for money does not count i.e. raising children/housework etc. projects like these put women in the formal economy, thats it single goal. Development programs have very specific targets, thats how the system works (children, orphans, Christians, people with disabilities the list does on) you can't hav…

That's not the reason women are targeted for development projects. Research has shown that women in developing countries spend more on the house hold and are marginalized from the formal economy. So econ 101 giving women jobs puts more money into the economy through a bigger multiplier effect. However most of these jobs are relatively how pay with little room for upward mobility. So its far from perfect. Also NGOs do this because of donor conditionalities.

it seems like those would be very marginal and hard to prove as you would need a self identifying sample. but it is a fair point I would say that the DINCs (double income no children) are a growing trend in the West as well.

yeah if you look at it from a Western lens. However, in many African cultures other learning/teaching techniques check out 'ubuntugogy' theres better articles and I would link them but they are behind a journal wall

Japan has a very high base of educated women and this should contribute to more women in the work force (blah blah higher blah better GDP, you get it) however because of social/cultural factors and child care infrastructure, these educated women are not fully contributing to the economy.

The measurement is based off Western education which is inherently institutional education that is why there is such a huge discrepancy with Africa and the middle east. These Western models of education clash with local realities eg women doing house work cannot go to school. Moreover this system marginalizes them from education and more importantly certification education =/= learning

These more so seem like "be a descent human being" and the vast majority of rapes don't even happen this way. This seems like its more anti-rape 'culture' than anything and only focuses on male agency. This doesn't target any of the structural causes of rape, eg the idea that women are a sexual 'gatekeeper'.

You can't just invent an imaginary"feminist" that is clearly a female misogynist. It creates a false image. Feminism as a theory follows specific rules of power relations and equality; so you if you say a "feminist" will say something to the contrary, they are not representing the theory of feminism.

I sort of agree with you but your terminology is off. Feminism as an add-on to other grand theories/narratives, these can be scientific narratives such as economics (which was my example). Feminism is a tool. When you ask the question "why is japans economy faltering" The purely econ answer is because a vast amount of the eligible work force is not in the economy. A feminist analysis provides the answers to why that's happening, social norms of men/women, work leisure and child care. Edit: but I…

Yes I agree for Western feminism this is applicable, particularly in the case of Muslim women, prostitution and polygamous groups. It is criticized for being Eurocentric and seeing women as a homogeneous group. Moreover other feminist are making these criticisms. Many feminists analyze local power relations (Foucault) and reject the binaries of good/bad victim/perpetrator.

Feminism works for them as well, in fact the Rich white girl feminism' aka Western feminism is heavily criticized for being as oppressive as "men". This was the Mohanty piece I referenced, earlier ITT.

/r/MensRights10/01/14 03:00 PM

That binary is in some feminist writings but more comprehensive and applicable research asks 'why and how' a particular group is marginalized/oppressed. If the answer is "men are the oppressors" then you aren't looking at the best quality of sources.

I said violence against women domestic abuse is the main and dominating issue in the 'violence against women' field. just read the TLDR
/r/MensRights10/01/14 08:03 AM

If feminists say that violence against women is disproportional, you can bet that that they're using some very interesting definitions of the word. some say that.. some say the opposite for example Ruth M. Mann writes that domestic abuse is much more complicated than that. 'Who Owns Domestic Abuse? The Local Politics of a Social Problem.'- TLDR version

maybe search more academic sources... feminism isn't 'one' thing... it is: marxist-fem structualist-fem post modern-fem liberal-fem first wave-fem second wave-fem third wave-fem Western-fem environmentalist-fem feminism is about the marginalization and oppression of a group. Feminists can even oppress others. this is an example of that 'Under Western Eyes: Feminist Scholarship and Colonial Discourses' by Chandra Mohanty.

ok you are both correct and incorrect here. this article from "feminist" Melissa Farley Comparing Sex Buyers with Men who Don’t Buy Sex is as you say misusing feminism and unethical research (skewing the data, leading interview questions, etc) however, this is not an academic peer reviewed journal and more importantly you have real feminists calling bullshit on this. Well no, we base our knowledge system off the scientific method and inquiry. So we value ideas that have been tested and retested and debated. Feminism is a discipline that has been constructed through years of debates, studies and research. Moreover, the discipline itself has evolved. You need a constant in order to source material from, or else you are just making unsubstantiated claims. You can't just 'create' a discipline out of thin air and expect it to be credible.

Feminism is an umbrella theory which analyses the marginalized. Gender analysis is a subsection of a feminist analysis. Just because it has "fem" doesn't make it entirely female oriented.
/r/MensRights10/01/14 06:40 AM
-32

Yes but feminism is a theory... more so an umbrella theory with deep and rich academic background/history. masculism is more of a term than anything. a "gender analysis" isn't really correct because you can use a feminist analysis on children, the elderly and basically any marginalized group.

Ok, so you are dismissing the duties of a house wife... So if they don't work..what do they do? Do women have to double dip? And perform duties and work? Or are all the family duties split evenly for both men and women.
/r/MensRights24/11/13 03:47 PM

The argument is that housewives contribute to the household... so the "mix up" is moot. Men put in more work hours when they're single or when they're married. It's just a statistical fact. There is a different between working more hours and working "harder" this study shows that men work more because they are able to work more. This isn't a good thing, we shouldn't (as a society) be working this much.

you seem really bitter, don't let that blind you to reality. Single men working just as hard or harder than married men is an absolute rebuttal single individuals do not have any dependants or people providing for them. This is not in the scope of this piece, thats another paper entirely.
/r/MensRights23/11/13 11:45 PM

I think single men/women can be excluded from this as it analyses constraints brought on by family duties. I would say there is a difference between enabling a husband to become successful and being a product of that successful man. Women who do not do their 'duties' would essentially be a free-rider in this case and might as well get a job in the public sphere. But those women who perform both duties their ability to work longer hours (and have more upward mobility) is constrained.
/r/MensRights23/11/13 10:05 PM
3

... makes it sound like the women want to work long hours... Women want to get promoted not necessarily work more. OK, the issue here is the family or household labour is in the grey economy aka not commodified, this work is unpaid (from a market standpoint). its not really one gender oppressing the other, more like an economic system that is oppressing both only males weather it more easily (less private/grey econ duties) as I said before, this isn't necessarily a gender thing as both sexes are…

Here is the concluding paragraph from the study "Many of these changes in the social organization of work, including expectations surrounding work hours, appear at first glance to be gender neutral. Employers do not specify separate work hour expectations for their male and female employees, nor do they systematically reward men who overwork more than women. Nevertheless, overwork rests on a foundation that is itself highly gendered: employees who work long hours can only do so with the support …

This is straight up evolutionary psychology; he should be one-night-standing as many women as he can to spread his genes. However, staying in a monogamous relationship and raising children also fits in evolutionary psychology, as the children have a better chance at survival. What she is doing, technically provides better genetics...but its risky specially in our money-dependant individualized society.
