yeah, I'm autistic so I maybe approach relationships in a more male typical way and had some of the same issues. Less worry about scaring a woman I like, obviously, but more trying to suss out whether her sexual orientation includes me at all, and possible homophobia. It took me quite a while to get used to the idea that if I want to go on a date I need to just ask the person. Psyching myself up to do it and then getting rejected sucks hard. It's almost worse when they're too nice about it, I pr…

I mean it beats being depressed : ) Ofc it's normal to care about a relationship, but it sounds like these thoughts are pretty overwhelming and frequent? If so you might want to spend some time getting through your own stuff before putting more effort into dating. Good stable women are going to be scared away by that level of insecurity. So you're more likely to end up with someone who's got their own issues, or even someone manipulative or abusive.

you seemed pretty confident in your original post : ) you see the point I'm making, though? Despite my username I'm coming around more and more to the view that class differences matter a lot more than the battle of the sexes.

yeah that could be a lot of things. I have ADHD and am the same way sometimes, and of course some people are just naturally enthusiastic. It might be something to look into more if you think it's affecting your relationships.

Falling "in love" after two weeks and the girlfriend dumping you that quickly makes me suspect that you came on way too strong and scared her off. I think the maybe-bipolar is more likely to be your problem than general dating trends.
/r/PurplePillDebate05/06/23 02:54 AM

the thing is that a guy claiming he's going to treat a woman well is not any sort of indicator of how he's going to treat her. If anything it comes off weird and defensive, like a restaurant advertising that it washes its dishes. It's like... yeah... good I guess... why are you telling me this? I want to just look at the dishes and see that they're clean.

I've never enjoyed or responded well to being hit on by a stranger, at best I can categorize some of those experiences as not-scary. I should say that I don't drink much, or go to bars at all, so I'm not saying anything about the norms there. Every guy I've dated has been part of some kind of group with me (friends, hobby, neighborhood), and we've had at least one lengthy non-sexual discussion, usually several, before they asked me out. I've never been bothered by a guy asking me out in that con…

Ive gotten some strange takes from women on here though like that "ugly men shouldnt be allowed to date" and they openly stated its disgusting ugly men want to date. Are you sure? I've literally never seen that from women, only men strawmanning women. I think red pill is a good corrective for overly literal minded people who have trouble reading between the lines of mainstream feel good dating advice. I'm autistic myself and spent a lot of time confused and frustrated until I did some reading ab…

I misread your last post, sorry. I thught you were saying that textile jobs wouldn't come back at all. I agree that manning a sewing machine would be a shock for your average HR drone. Not many women are making money on instagram and tiktok. The ones who do get a lot of attention (kind of by definition) but it's not a substantial factor in the economic power balance between women and men. Ditto for only fans, with the added factor that men could already watch free porn if that's what they wanted…

sure, but OP's hypothetical male advantage is supposed to come from manufacturing jobs returning to the united states. Is there any reason to think that male manufacturing jobs are coming back but female ones aren't? That seems like a really specific prediction that I'm not seeing any justification for. I already agreed on the ai thing hitting female-dominated jobs harder, I just don't think that's the whole story when it comes to automation.

I appreciate the measured tone of your response given how snarky mine was. Apologies for that. Patriarchy is women being treated as a resource for men rather than people in our own right. How that resource gets distributed has varied over time. So you're right that patriarchy is not necessarily polygamous, but in times and places with big wealth gaps it tends to be, in practice if not in theory. What would you say the trend is in terms of economic inequality right now? Is the billionaire class t…

aren't textile workers predominantly female? Every picture I've ever seen of a clothing sweatshop has women at the sewing machines. Basically stuff involving heavy lifting is more automated, and stuff involving fine muscle control and detail is less so. Guess which sex that favors for manufacturing jobs? I'd gloat, but honestly robotic hands are getting pretty good. I think the world economy is headed in a pretty dark direction for the lower and even middle classes.

interesting thought experiment. Off the top of my head: Death of hookup culture, with only the people who were making money off it missing it. Ditto porn and prostitution. If the change was sudden there'd be a serious dip in dating, but it would stabilize. I'm bi and had an adjustment period when I started dating women but it's doable. Shorter courtships, faster marriages. Divorce rate could go either way. Less mismatched sex drives would probably reduce it, but shorter courtships might increase…

Points 1 & 2: manufacturing is already way more automated than it was before WWII, and robotics technology is not far behind AI. This upcoming round is probably going to be worse for women than for men, but if you think normal men are the winners in the overall trend you're deluded. Points 3: Most of the money from the sex industry goes to men. If they could make it without hurting actual women, that would be a win for us. But there's already more porn in the world than one man could watch in a …

Well, first of all keep in mind the sociological term describes a social pattern involving both men and women. Technically a rich old man buying an impoverished 14 year old from her father to use as a concubine would be hypergamy, but it has nothing to do with what the girl wants. I guess you could call the pattern of selecting poorer/lower status partners hypogamy. So then the question is not just why men aren't hypergamous, but why they're so often actively hypogamous. It might seem at first g…

I think women are drawn to status in a broad sense, but how we measure that varies both by individuals and by subculture. Take the classic example of a guy in a bar throwing money around like confetti. That behavior could be interpreted as high status (he's showing that he has resources to burn, his body language is likely very open and confident, he's the center of attention) or low status (he's showing poor self control and judgment, he's giving stuff to strangers who aren't reciprocating, as …

Hypergamy originated as a social science term to talk about cultures with widespread marriage across socioeconomic barriers, virtually always well off men getting with much poorer women. In redpill circles it's become a kind of shorthand for two things: a) anything women tend to care about more than men when selecting a partner, and b) the idea that we will drop our current partners like a rotting fish the second a better deal comes along It's a bit of a bait and switch, using a useful term that…

I don't know anyone who enjoyed it for more than a year or two at most, usually they were antsy after a few months but it depended how burnt out they were to start. The list isn't meant as a moral judgment, just an example of the kinds of things other than work that people might find more absorbing than, as you say, fucking around all day. IME young retirees who don't have something like that end up going back to work out of sheer boredom.

it will drive you crazy unless you are actively dying. Humans aren't meant to do nothing at all. You can quit paid work at any age, whenever you can afford it. But you need to have something you're doing instead. Volunteering, travelling, a serious hobby, whatever.

yeah I guess it could have been 1. I'm inclined to think 2, just because her entire profile was like that, but it was pretty over the top so maybe. I think in both cases you're seeing the lemon effect - the worst 5% of people account for like 80% of the visible activity, because they stay on the market forever and will bite at anything. So you get a really skewed impression of what the population as a whole is like.

Combination of a few things, I think: a relationship with a big age gap is more likely to be casual/less likely to last men tend to be more interested in casual/short partnerships than women an older person is likely to be able to steer a relationship with a younger person in the direction they want (until you start getting into senility) These are all patterns rather than absolute rules of course. There are guys who appreciate passion and character, though I've had much better luck with male friends than male partners in that regard. Hanging out with other adhd/autistic people was a gamechanger for me personally. On the higher functioning end, we're generally able to get vicariously excited about other people's passions and present our own in a relatively engaging/appropriate way. And we are pathetically grateful for people who don't make us guess about their feelings or get offended when…

Women complain to each other about our exes all the time. And women who say they were dating a narcissist or abuser do not conclude that they need an engineer making six figures. By the time I wised up and left, my abusive ex was an engineer making six figures. Have you seriously ever heard a woman make that connection, like in real life as opposed to ragebait on an internet forum?

How many times have we heard about the deadbeat baby daddy and now they need to Engineer making six figures to take care of them and the deadbeats kids? constantly on redpill and incel forums, zero times in places women talk to each other, irl or online. Even on FDS, which had a reputation for being full of the worst self centered gold diggers, I never saw a single woman saying this. it's not such a new thing. Check out the bible's description of an ideal wife: She seeks wool and flax, And willingly works with her hands. She is like the merchant ships, She brings her food from afar. She also rises while it is yet night, And provides food for her household, And a portion for her maidservants. She considers a field and buys it; From her profits she plants a vineyard. She girds herself with strength, And strengthens her arms. "Sis do you even lift?" XD We're social animals, so …

I feel like we basically agree with each other? I didn't mention intrasex competition for men but it's definitely a factor. Men need to be actively seeking out chances, often the same chances other men are sniffing for, while finding dick is not generally the limiting factor for women's reproductive success. We both have sex drives optimized to induce behaviors that served our same sex ancestors in the past. "Women want sex less often" is not a disagreement with "men want sex more often," and in…

The more I like a guy's personality and vibe the more I notice his best physical features and ignore his less fortunate ones. Take a guy who's fit but cross eyed. If he's hilarious and kind to animals, I'm admiring his chest. If he's mean to the waiter and spends the whole date trying to sell me bitcoin, that's gonna bring out the eyes. yeah the emotional side is interesting. One piece I don't see brought up much is that men and women are expected to mask different emotions, and face different consequences for failing to do so. Like several guys on here have mentioned their girlfriend losing interest in them sexually after they cried in front of her. That's very foreign to my experience as a woman - 9 times out of 10 a guy will be trying to jump you before you've even wiped your nose. Whether it's arousing for them or intended …

What an interesting question. I'm bi and I never really thought about it but I have noticed the pattern you're describing in my partners. I don't have a coherent answer but a few thoughts: My attitude used to be a lot closer to the typical male one you describe, but after an abusive relationship I've gotten extremely sensitive to the question of intent - I'm paranoid about being manipulated. I wonder if there's a correlation there. It seems to go directly against the whole "women are valued for …

fwiw everything you said sounded fine to me. I think part of the issue is that women are more accustomed to doing that kind of emotional processing with our friends even when we're not in a relationship. Most men would not like being the only repository of their girlfriend's feelings any better than women like the other way around, but the situation doesn't come up as often. Probably varies by person too. I'm guessing girls who want to share everything with their boyfriend would also want him to…

When men say "lower your standards", what they really mean most of the time is lower your looks standards. yeah, it often feels kind of motte and bailey. The version you describe - "don't artificially limit yourself to only dating people you find insanely hot" is perfectly reasonable, but I've never known a single woman who does that in the first place. I want to say it's a male behavior, but honestly I don't even know any men who are that shallow irl. The whole thing seems to be based on what a…

I've seen plenty of women lower their standards to get in a relationship, especially as they get older (post divorce or baby hungry at 35.) But the resulting relationships have ranged from disappointing to actively abusive. One of them literally ended up moving to a different country to get away from a "nice guy who just needs a chance" who turned out to be a stalker. I wouldn't describe that as success. All the women I know in good relationships had insanely high standards, either from the begi…

I'm not sure how much we can settle which factor is more important, because they're pretty connected. Sex is a clear win for male mammals, so they have very strong, relatively uncomplicated sex drive. For female mammals, sex is a critical but relatively small step in a much more fraught reproductive process, so we have pretty strong but more complicated sex drives. If a woman have high sex drive and have sex with many men, how many childs can have? This is taking a male perspective on reproducti…

I'm saying I'm sure people who claim men and women have equal sex drives exist. I just haven't encountered many of them. As you say, the fact that there's some overlap between the horniest women and the least horny men doesn't invalidate the average difference.
/r/PurplePillDebate30/05/23 02:41 PM

both true. We have a sex drive to help us reproduce, but it's complicated by other factors. A pregnancy that leads to a baby with poor odds of survival isn't just a missed opportunity like not getting laid is for a man; it costs a lot of calories while reducing our ability to gather food, and carries a small but real risk of injury or death. We've got the engine but we also have a pretty easily triggered braking system.

UH HUH, thanks for saying this. It's a hell of a head trip as a woman working in a male dominated field - on the one hand I think it's pretty likely that men and women actually do make different career choices because of biology, and on the other hand I've had a steady stream of experiences that have conditioned me to cringe pretty hard whenever the topic comes up. I don't go all the way to denial but I see the temptation for sure.

most girls learn by the age of 15 that a man wanting to fuck them does not make them special. "Suck my dick" is universally understood to be an expression of contempt, not a compliment. Also, believing someone who lies to you is not narcissism. Narcissistic behavior would be more like, say, lying, and then resenting the person you lied to.

yeah, the difference at this point is pretty unreal. Tbf it was much less of an issue for men when the body positivity movement was first picking up steam. I still remember chubby James Bond, and the number of sitcoms that gave balding overweight 45 year old men "wives" that looked more like their plastic-surgery enhanced daughters. this varies a lot from person to person. I'm autistic and hate any kind of emotional display, honestly. It's not that I don't care, it's just overwhelming and I have no idea what to do about it. I'll stay up all night listening to you talk on a work night if that's what you need, but please please please don't cry. obviously men have a higher sex drive on average than women, are you seriously running into a substantial number of people saying otherwise? Where? I don't see how that conflicts with the other statements you're objecting to, though. We're the selectors, when physical force isn't a factor, because you have higher sex drives. Reading some of your comments on here made me think of an advice column/blog I sent my (socially awkward homeschooled) boys to when they started thinking about this stuff. Dude's reformed pick up artist, probably "blue pill" by the standards of this sub, but with a pretty realistic attitude towards the social difficulties young men face, especially around dating. He talks about everything fro…

my brother in christ this is reddit. a) the whole site is heavily skewed towards overly online weirdos who touch more weed than grass b) subs are specifically designed as mini dictatorships where the mods can create an echo chamber catering to their own specific neuroses c) big subs are also infested with bots trying to start WWIII and karma farmers. The former are at least interesting, but don't take them too seriously. The only way to learn about a big group of people is to have in depth conve…

Zero. I explicitly told my sons when they hit the teen years that one of the reasons they need to go easy on the junk food, work up a sweat regularly, wear clean presentable clothes, and stand up straight, is that people who take care of their looks do better in the world. I don't specifically frame it as advice for getting laid in the future, because that would be weird, but it obviously applies to dating.

I mean I've never asked or been asked this question in real life, and I mostly hang out with other aspies. The reason I roll my eyes at it in the context of online people talking about dating, is that it's often asked by men who are desperate to get with women who want nothing to do with them. It can come off as sour grapes rather than an actual question. Honestly it doesn't bug me as much as it does some people, because sometimes it does seem to be coming from a place that I recognize. It took …

That is literally not true. I have many male friends, all of whom have some combination of relationships and casual sex without being creeps. And no, they're not all 6'11 billionaires who need special pants with a third leg. With one or two exceptions, they're all in the normal range from cute to well he's got a great personality. Do you ever notice how guys who complain constantly about not being able to get laid are also the guys who are prepared to die on the hill of creepiness?

The hilarious thing, guys will generally always bang psycho crazy, There is a reason "Don't stick your dick in crazy" is the most common advice guys give to other guys, and all guys ignore it. Maybe the girls getting labelled as crazy aren't actually so much of a threat, then? Even the example you give of a "creepy" girl sounds pretty harmless. After high school (disclaimer: never went to college), I've only heard men described as creeps when they do stuff that is edging on actual stalking or as…

Social awkwardness is different from just being physically unattractive, though. Humans are social animals, and we spend a lot of brainpower trying to suss out other people's intentions and trustworthiness, mostly subconsciously. Someone who's off socially is off for a reason, and the possibilities range from "unfamiliar with local customs" or "having a bad day" through "serious mental illness" or "planning to hurt you." At best they're going to be harder to deal with than someone who's better c…

oh awesome, sometimes I sperg out and don't even know whether I'm answering the question I was asked XD I swear sometimes lurking in this sub makes me despair for humanity, but every once in a while there's a really interesting post like yours. Thanks for that

Hell yeah. I'm not feminine at all, I'd be much better off as a man. If you're talking about dating in particular... hard to say whether that would be a positive or negative change for me. I'm bi, so my dating pool would be about the same size, but it'd be gay men and straight women rather than the other way around, and of course even bi people would be reacting to me as a man rather than a woman. Right now I only date other women because of PTSD, but I'm guessing my aspie ass wouldn't do so hot…

If they both want a baby and she does 100% of the physical work of making it, then an actual 50/50 relationship would entail that he contribute more in other ways. (edit: this is an example to show the logic of splitting work without talking about pregnancy) Say the only two jobs a couple needs to do this evening are cooking dinner and washing the dishes afterwards. They could each do half the cooking and half the dishes. But if the jobs are roughly the same amount of work, one person could do t…

I mean any relationship between two people who aren't clones of each other is going to be asymmetrical in some ways. The problem is that there's a long history of women's work being devalued. Once I was staying with a friend who had a hobby farm, and was floored that her husband complained she was "leaving all the work to him" when she had to stop stacking firewood to breastfeed their child. He did half of what was left and then wanted to go inside and relax while she finished the job; didn't ev…

It's an interesting question. I don't know if toxic is the word, but I think I relate to the sort of catch 22 you describe. On the one hand there's all these standards for how to be a "proper" woman/man, but people will sneer at you for trying to live up to those standards too. So you feel shitty regardless of what you do. Like caring even a little bit about clothes and makeup and hair is shallow and dumb, but if I ignore my appearance I'm gross. Being on a diet is lame, but being "fat" (which w…
