DV victim made to pay abuser?I'm still much happier out of the abuse and living my life, even with the financial burden. I wish I'd gotten out of the marriage earlier but like a lot of the guys in this sub, I tried to hold it together for the kids. | /r/Divorce_Men | 27/11/25 03:11 AM
DV victim made to pay abuser?Yup. I'm in California and had a 10+ year marriage. In my case the DA did press charges (felony spousal battery) and she took a plea deal. I still ended up paying spousal support through the nose. The system is broken. | /r/Divorce_Men | 27/11/25 02:39 AM
Feeling lost after abusive marriageUse a private server. Your lawyer should be taking care of this. | /r/Divorce_Men | 05/09/25 02:10 PM
Feeling lost after abusive marriageYou've got a bad lawyer if they told you that. You file with the court and find (usually paying) someone independent to serve your spouse with the papers. After service, that person will file the proof of service with the court. No judges are involved at that stage. | /r/Divorce_Men | 04/09/25 08:40 PM
“I need a man who will be man enough to let me kick him in the face.”My experience with the police here (in California) was that they were more than happy to drag my ex off to the county jail once they saw the video evidence. But your mileage may vary. They're always going to jail one of you, and most of the time it's going to be the dude. (I just wish I'd been smart enough to do it years before I did) | /r/Divorce_Men | 07/08/25 11:45 PM
“I need a man who will be man enough to let me kick him in the face.”Counterpoint: Don't let her continue to abuse you. Get out before it's too late. If you're like me, you'll suffer for years with gradual escalation of physical and emotional abuse, finally call the police with video evidence, only to eventually face a female judge who makes you take a domestic violence class. For not walking away sooner. For letting your kids continue to be around their mother's violence. (If any women has ever had to take a court-ordered domestic violence class for letting hers… | /r/Divorce_Men | 07/08/25 11:19 PM
Has anyone else dealt with a destroyed sex drive even though they are happily with another partner? You don't mention your age, but the trauma of a bad marriage combined with the usual effects of getting older can definitely mess with your libido. I just turned 49. What worked for me was a getting back in shape (including a lot of resistance training) and eating well. And the occasional Cialis. Other guys will benefit most from TRT. But I'd say focus on being healthy and lift weights first. I haven't needed that so far. | /r/Divorce_Men | 24/02/25 01:21 AM
New girlfriend and I ran into STBXW at beachLol. Good luck with that | /r/Divorce_Men | 03/08/24 08:09 PM
New girlfriend and I ran into STBXW at beach.. And nothing will happen. Source: the past few years of self stuff-documenting order violations on OFW by my ex. The courts don't give a shit. | /r/Divorce_Men | 03/08/24 07:05 PM
Lift heavy shitI still hate going to a regular gym. I admire guys who can do it. What worked for me was group classes. (I do F45) | /r/Divorce_Men | 29/07/24 12:20 AM
Lift heavy shitThree weeks of working out consistently for the first time in my life lifted me out of depression faster than years of therapy. Give it a try. | /r/Divorce_Men | 29/07/24 12:18 AM
in California is child support pre or post tax. If it's post tax then is it tax deductible?Child support is not deductable. Spousal support is deductible on your California taxes, but not federal (since 2019) | /r/Divorce_Men | 14/03/22 01:17 PM
