Feminism doesn’t take away from the men’s rights movement. Liberation isn’t mutually exclusive and men’s liberation is crucial for women liberation, and vice versa. The media absolutely publicizes the worst branches of feminism, just as it does with branches of men’s rights. Because they don’t actually challenge the status quo and act as ragebait that generates media traffic and profit. Just as all MRAs are painted as women-hating, incels, all feminists are painted at men-hating, femcels. I’m a …

That’s not at all what intersectional feminism believes. It’s the acknowledgment that everyone faces barriers at the hands of oppressive systems and identities. And the systems of oppression they coincide with can NOT be separated or categorized. In no way does intersectional feminism exclusively view men as the oppressors of women. Nor do Intersectional feminists want equality between men and women, they want liberation for men AND women. Intersectional feminism acknowledges that male oppressio…

Never once did I imply that and I’m not sure where you got that from. I was simply saying that even for men who weren’t raised with shame and stigma around their sexuality, this is such a horrible experience that it would likely cause suicidal ideation, regardless. I was emphasizing that this is so dehumanizing, that even without outside shame and stigma, this experience is inevitably detrimental to one’s mental health.

There’s no choosing sides in the “abortion debate” because it’s not a black and white issue. And people who still think the conversation surrounding abortion revolves around “pro-choice” vs “pro-life” likely haven’t participated in repro-health spaces in quite some time. It’s also inaccurate to paint “both sides” as monoliths and I’ve seen “both sides” protesting MGM in real life. My stance on abortion as someone who works in politics is that: We’ve seen that abortion ban/restriction exceptions …

What progress have liberal feminists made for women in recent years? As I said, if it challenges the status quo (which both male and female liberation does) it’s unlikely to get passed.
/r/MensRights19/04/24 06:20 PM

Yeah, I’m not saying I agree with them at all. Simply giving examples of self proclaimed feminists that do in fact care about MGM. I’m not sure what branch of feminism they belong to or what they believe, just showing that this is an issue we care about. Luckily I see it covered much more (and far better) in politics than is represented in media and journalism. And as I said, the fact that legislation isn’t representative of this issue doesn’t mean people don’t care and aren’t actively fighting …

Absolutely! Liberal feminism, which doesn’t care about women’s issues let alone men’s, doesn’t challenge the status quo. This, on top of ragebait, is why it’s pushed in media. It makes no actual effort to benefit the material conditions of men, which benefits the people and systems who exploit y’all. I promise you there are so many intersectional feminists pushing for justice in these issues through grassroots and legislative action, myself included. I’m actually a Policy Researcher and Politica…

Hi, you’re speaking to one! :) I’m a Public Policy Researcher and Political Organizer and I’m a proud Men’s Rights activist and advocate and Intersectional Feminist. A big focus of mine is informed consent and bodily autonomy, and I’ve worked to push legislation that bans all forms of genital mutilation: male, female, and intersex. And there’s many other feminists doing the same! https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.1080/08164640902852415 https://theconversation.com/like-fgm-cut-foreskins-shou…

Absolutely! Liberal feminism is given such a large platform because it doesn’t actually challenge the status quo and generates outrages that’s profitable for media outlets. A great example of an intersectional feminist that advocated for men’s liberation is Bell Hooks. During the civil rights movement she talked about how men would put the movement before their personal needs. She saw them neglecting to nurture the human aspects of themselves because men were de-facto expected to be machines. Sh…

All these critiques apply to the branch liberal feminism. Highly recommend you look into the branch of intersectional feminism that has focused on men’s liberation extensively for decades.
/r/MensRights19/04/24 05:24 PM
-1

We already have! Intersectional feminists have been covering these issues for decades. As an intersectional feminist and a men’s rights activist, these are issues I’ve advocated for extensively.
/r/MensRights19/04/24 05:22 PM

And the media only pushes one’s branch of feminism because it doesn’t actually challenge the status who and generated outrage, which equals clicks, shares, likes, comments, etc. The same can be said about any other movement, especially the men’s rights movement. The idea that feminists aren’t pushing for these things only shows how skewed people’s idea of feminism is. There are so many people fighting for these things within intersectional feminist spaces.
/r/MensRights19/04/24 05:21 PM

It’s actually a really quick and simple answer, intersectional feminism!

I think it’s normal for anyone who experiences such a horrible violation to want to end their life, regardless of socialized shame and stigma related to sexuality. This is such a dehumanizing experience

As someone’s who’s been a part of both feminist and men’s rights spaces, this is blatantly false. The minority of the feminist movement is anti-man. Feminism is a very broad ideology with MANY branches, sadly the stereotypical idea of a feminist comes from the branch of liberal feminism (a branch that doesn’t even benefit women, let alone any other marginalized group). In fact some of the most influential feminists were avid men’s rights activists and advocates, because our liberation is intertw…

If people like Ken, then why didn’t the director and writer get a nomination? She created the character. Also, what does this have to do with men’s rights? This just sounds like you’re shitting on women while not seeing the irony

No, the movie is about how the matriarchy world is extremely flawed. The movie draws parallels between the problems and complexities boys growing into manhood and girls growing into womanhood experience. We’re supposed to empathize with Kens and Barbie and realize that at the end of the movie, there was no resolution, because these systems are still in place
/r/MensRights24/07/23 08:15 AM
1

Exactly, the ending of the movie was meant to be flawed, it’s part of the commentary on gendered systems of oppression. The point of the movie was to draw parallels between girls growing into womanhood and boys growing into manhood, and the complexes that follow. We’re supposed to empathize with both sides and notice in the end that neither Barbie nor Kens issue was resolved because the systems remain intact
/r/MensRights24/07/23 05:44 AM
1

That’s just blatantly false, there was never supposed to be favoritism. Greta (the director) specifically wanted to draw attention to the complexities of boys growing into manhood and girls growing into womanhood and have the audience empathize with both of them. The ending is supposed to be flawed and unfair, it’s part of the commentary on gendered systems of oppression
/r/MensRights24/07/23 05:41 AM
1

Absolutely, it was a story about boys entering manhood and girls entering womanhood and all the complexities that surround that. The audience is meant to empathize with both sides
/r/MensRights24/07/23 05:38 AM
0

There was no good or bad side, the entire point of the move is about the complexities of boys entering manhood and girls entering womanhood. Greta wanted the audience to empathize with both sides and realize that people make up these fictitious rules, roles, and systems because real life is scary and hard, and we need to work together to make it more equitable and helpful for all of us
/r/MensRights24/07/23 05:37 AM

That’s the entire point of the movie, it’s supposed to represent the “equality” that women put up with for years. When Barbie came out women couldn’t even own a house or a credit card. The end of the movie is supposed to be flawed in several ways

My comment wasn’t about romantic relationship at all and neither was the movie. It’s about both genders worth and happiness being tied into eachother. They’re saying it doesn’t always have to be man and woman or man or woman, it can be men, and it can be women. We are valuable beings as is and deserve to liberate eachother.

I think the movie as a whole is so misunderstood, this quote puts it well, “barbie is not anti men it's critique of a system that no one truly benefits from ken is not able to find happiness or fulfillment in a world that ties him and barbie forever the same way she isn't and it's not until they can both exist as it's barbie AND it's ken that they can escape the confines of that system”

Except the entire movie was disproving that entire premise. I think this quote puts it well, “barbie is not anti men it's critique of a system that no one truly benefits from ken is not able to find happiness or fulfillment in a world that ties him and barbie forever the same way she isn't and it's not until they can both exist as it's barbie AND it's ken that they can escape the confines of that system”

Yes, absolutely, as are many women. This isn’t a gender issue, it’s a socialization Issue from a society that doesn’t value consent or comprehensive sex education

That’s sadly not privilege, it’s a type of objectification. The way men/boys are objectified as machines for labor, women/girls are objectified as commodities to be bought. This is the grooming young feminine presenting people face, so that in the future when they encounter this, they’re expected to give something in return. Time, love, sex, etc. There are absolutely privileges that women have, but this is not one of them. ❤️

I think I know what? I’m an MRA, I’m on your side, I’m for men’s liberation, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to excuse disinformation and sexism. If I’m so wrong then provide the information to prove me wrong instead of insulting me and my intelligence. And if you’re not going to, then stop co-opting this movement with your clear disdain for women.
/r/MensRights17/06/23 04:05 PM

That’s actually incorrect, at least with child custody cases, men win 80% of the time they fight in court. Also I’m sure what you mean when you keep bringing up the fact that women get government assistance in these cases and men don’t. Could you please show data to support that. If what I said was garbage, then refute me with facts. Because everything I said can be backed by data from several fields of study and you’re relying on fictitious opinions for many of your “rebuttals”

If you want to deny facts and come up with opinions that fit your narrative, sure lmao 1. That’s just blatantly incorrect, please actually learn the process of AA and why and how it exists 2. This is also blatantly incorrect and anti scientific. What you’re doing is called bio essentialism, where ou push modern social ideals on biology. -Affirmative action doesn’t favor minorities, it ensures equal employment opportunities because we know for a fact that technology tends to favor men in the hiring process. Thus, AA is used to compare two equally qualified candidates and then the one less represented in the company/organization is chosen. -Women do absolutely do better in school and theres a wide range of reasons that could be causing it like the fact that women are more likely to plan ahead and have a future plan that they foll…

I’ve never met a feminist that wasn’t anti-war and pro abolishing the draft. Both mens rights activists and feminists should be pro-liberation and anti oppression, meaning anti-war and anti-draft. Sadly in America, yes, many males deal with genital mutilation. But so do many females who genitals don’t align with the typical female genital expression. This is a massive issue that needs to be addressed across the board, but to say it’s male specific is untrue. When it comes to alimony, each state has different laws and procedures, but usually it’s based on the length of the marriage, the incomes of both people, and the reason for separation. But sadly, because of traditional gender roles wo…

Both misogyny and misandry are systems of oppression that grant privileges and disadvantages to men and women. Benevolent sexism is still sexism
/r/MensRights01/06/23 10:41 PM

Female accountability is non existent because misogyny paints women as weak, and therefore incapable of being the perpetrator. We need to get rid of these fictitious beliefs so that men and women are held accountable and can get the justice they deserve

Of course I’m angry over racialized sexual violence, who wouldn’t be? And none of what I said was hateful, it’s reality. We have data to support all of what I said. And I’d dint make a generalization, I made a statement that you took defensively. That’s why we need to stop getting defensive and listen to what people are saying, because then we can learn and grow form eachother and reach our common goals (mens rights). As I said previously, there is a difference between a fetish and a preference. Demeaningly generalizing a whole continent of people is vastly different than having a preference. “Racial Preference: Our backgrounds, and where we grew up and who we surround ourselves with and the media, all play a part in our perceived racial preference. Therefore, you are attracted to a particular person based on factors such as; race, culture, religion, environment and background. However without the elimination…

I never excluded women from criticism, I simply just answered the question this post asked. Women absolutely know what they’re doing but you can’t deny there is a lapse in understanding when two people have no understanding of each other culture and intentions. I never claimed that men overall acted worse than women, you’re putting words in my mouth. I said that sadly we have stats to show that white men will target Asian women. It goes both ways. How is what I said misandrist if I never specified gender other than a statement that we have backed by statistics sadly? (Pointing out facts isn’t sexist as long as we’re not making sweeping generalizations) Both people deserve to be MUTUALLY respected and happy and healthy. I’m the delusional one because you don’t want to listen to facts? As mens rights activists we need to be aware of the facts and all gendered biases our systems hold. Sadly the idea that family court favors women is false. 90% of custody cases are mutually decided outside of court, this is why women have such high custody rates. When men fight for custody, they win 80% of the time, which is even higher if a woman claims she or her child have been abused. The courts favor men, and when we push thi…

Yes, absolutely, because fetishization and attraction are not the same thing. Sexualizing all black men for a stereotype is fetishization, and it’s also dangerous. Sociology and psychology is still science backed by data. This is pointing to the social phenomenons that occur when we fetishize Asian women. Not every relationship is like this at all, but sadly lack of cultural understanding often leads to this.

You can look at the statistics of violence against Asian women in America by white men as well as use those historical and contemporary examples to see sociologically why and how this happens.

Yes, that’s why it’s predatory. It’s praying on people who experience a vastly different economic system and therefore expect less. Comparing continents of women as if they’re a monolith saying that one is “hard to resist” and puts the other “to shame” is a massive generalization that leads to fetishization. And then finishing it with them being “cheap to keep” shows you see relationships as transactional. They should be mutual. Being an MRA doesn’t mean we need to be disrespectful towards women.
