100% agree that the 12 steps, and especially step 4, are a highly useful framework for what we’re all trying to do, even for non-addicts.

Genuinely curious how you upgraded your crib. I’m at a similar point and brainstorming ideas. Any thoughts?

Salsa is one of the more common forms. So a lot of the basic moves are broadly applicable. And, as others have noted, comfort is a huge part of being on the dance floor and having a good time, and increased familiarity will help a lot with that.

Learning to dance can be tough at the beginning for guys since the learning curve is steeper for us than for women in any partner dancing. But I’d highly recommend doing so. Go take salsa class! It’s lots of fun and the instructors and other folks are usually really welcoming to beginners. And once you learn… the ladies love a man who can dance. 🕺 It’s worth it. I’d never danced at all as of three years ago, and now it’s my main hobby. So much fun.

Agree with this - also would add good skincare, hygiene, and braces as needed. With the pandemic, there will never be a better time to get braces lol. And with how young you are, diet and exercise done right over the long-term will do wonders for you. To make it sustainable, try to find good cardio you enjoy doing - such that you want to make it part of your lifestyle. And for diet, learning to cook healthy food well, so that you actually enjoy it, will go a long way to making it sustainable.

A lot of women are socialized to apologize way too much. Don’t take it the wrong way. Just encourage her instead. That’s what she really needs.

Learn to dance my friend:). The learning curve can be a little steep. But, most people are supportive of beginners and it’s tons of fun once you get comfortable.

Honestly I’m confident enough in my dancing at this point that I have no qualms about walking up to almost anyone and asking them to dance. Most women will only say no if they have a very good reason, usually that they’re trying to rest up or cool down. Now escalating from a good dance into a conversation and more is what I need to work on. But the initial ask ceases to be an issue once you get reasonably good.

Partner dancing is hella fun once you get past the initial learning curve.

Sounds like you’re using it as a coping mechanism for something, which is the basic root of most compulsive/addictive behavior. I’d encourage you to consider counseling, therapy, or something along those lines.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
