Could you supply some sources for this. I believe that gender is a combination of nature and nurture but having that conversation with feminists inevitably causes much wailing and gnashing of teeth. It would be nice to be able to refer them to some quality research to at least get the conversation going.

I'm a dad myself and if someone warned me that my kids health was in question I would be there to see for myself. He's far from perfect, he just didn't care which is exactly what the judge was saying. Especially given the companion article explaining the woman's release provided by EvilPundit I think that the decision to prosecute the man was right and it seems like there was no pass given to the woman.

I'm sorry but that's not what the article says, it says he was warned that his children were in danger. I agree that the wife is the primary perpetrator, but the article gives the impression that the guy knew but didn't care. Edit to add quote: " The man, who now lives at Laidley, assumed his then de facto wife was taking care of the twins at their Sunnybank Hills home in 2008, but even after he was warned their health was in question, he still did not check on them."

To be honest, if the father was warned that the kids were being starved then he should have done something about it. If he had gone to child protection services he wouldn't be in the dock. That said though, the fact that the mother gets a free pass is fucking atrocious. As far as I'm concerned they both belong in jail.

The fact that this guy was a teacher and aware of the girls age is the difference for me. If he was unaware of her age I would argue for leniency but since that is not the case he willfully broke the law and deserves his punishment. Edit: I mean he deserves years, not 30 days.

I would argue that anyone who resorts to outright misogyny is undesirable. In the same way I would argue that feminists who resort to outright misandry are undesirable. Edit for clarity: I'm not advocating censorship, I am just advocating speaking up against speech which we can see is misogynistic.

I actually agree with this. If you want to have a movement that achieves something for men then you have to police the unsavory elements. Before you say it, I understand that there are unsavory elements in any organization, that doesn't mean we should let them have the loudest voices.

The teacher should be serving a mandatory minimum sentence for statutory rape and should be barred from being near kids again. Men and women should both be held to the same standards. I can't describe the disdain I have for adults who can't understand that sex with children is not ok.

That's not at all what I see when I read about how Swedish preschools encourage gender neutral toys and play. This article itself pointed out how a toy catalogue had a boy in a Spider-Man suit posing a pink carriage and a girl dressed in yellow driving a tractor. More than 1 article about Sweden has highlighted this trend of remaining gender neutral.

Like I said, I don't think it reads as an attempt to demonize masculinity. To me it reads as let's ignore all differences, masculine or feminine. The example of the toys being taken away was male but the example of free play leading to hierarchies and bullying specified no gender. Edit: re-read the thread and I probably should have been clearer earlier. I don't think the article is attacking masculinity. Just gender as a concept. My apologies.

They didn't say that they hadn't removed tea sets and dolls so I wouldn't read into the article. I'm not so much concerned about this being an attempt to demonize masculinity as much as I think it's ridiculous to go this far in trying to deny that there are any gender differences whatsoever.

What made me laugh the most about this article is that in a country where they are doing their best to erase gender they had to remove toy cars because the boys gravitated towards them. I literally cannot think of a better example to illustrate that there are fundamental differences between boys and girls even at a preschool level.
