The kind of guys you’re talking about — becoming invisible to them, filtering them out with your style or your self-confidence or the way you live, is one of the best things that can happen. Getting them out of the way so you can find someone who you’ll feel genuine joy at spending time with, who will treat you with love and compassion. These guys are looking for targets to exploit. If you’re invisible to them, it means they’ve decided not to target you.

The variation between people is an important part of it. Some people are incredibly good at picking up on little cues of what a person is really thinking or feeling, and others are terrible at it. This also goes into what others have said about the success rate. If these guys put on a respectful front, some women may see through it instantly and reject them, but others will be fooled, at least for that short time. If they don’t let the rejections faze them and just try again with the next woman,…

Why would that hypothetical even matter to you? “Sure, the adult woman you are today thinks I’m the best guy she’s ever been with, but I’ll never be secure unless I know the clueless, pimply 10th grade version of you would have also approved of me.”

In these comments you keep saying, “what’s the probability I’d find an accepting woman?” But the thing is, by acting preemptively like your fears have already come true and so refusing to even take the risk — by letting the fear control you — you’re ensuring that the probability is zero. Ask yourself, how is that better than a situation where you have some chance it turns out bad (and yes that would hurt) but also some chance it turns out good? Re therapy which you mentioned you don’t have the m…

Ok then change it to something else that’s a bigger deal. Like say she had a boyfriend who was severely disabled, or whose family were recent refugees from a war-torn country (supposing you don’t have those traits). That’s a huge difference, but does that reflect badly on her?

Suppose you have brown hair, and found out that your girlfriend when she was in 9th grade had a boyfriend who was blond. Would it occur to you to wonder if this makes her “a whore”?

As a woman attracted to men, nothing I’ve ever heard to define the term “alpha” sounds like any type of guy I’d want anything to do with, much less sleep with. It’s a totally unfounded extrapolation to humans of a concept that was already unfounded in its original form applied to wolves.

I would liken it to someone saying “You criticize [pseudoscience fad diet], but you don’t propose your own special diet,” as if it’s a knockdown argument.

I had a “reputation for being loose and easy”. Didn’t stop me from getting in the relationship I’ve been in for four years. In fact, almost all the women I’ve ever known who had a “reputation for being loose and easy” either found a committed partner and stayed together, or was not in a relationship by choice. As someone who likes women, I would not “hesitate” about a prospective serious girlfriend having a lot of sexual partners. In fact, if anything, I would figure she’s probably more open in …

Incels was the first Contrapoints video I watched. Highly recommended to anyone. As an economist (in training), I have a lot of feelings about the idea of the "sexual marketplace". We definitely do study models of matching markets based on match quality/tastes rather than objective value, but people who talk about dating and sex as a market are typically envisioning a very simplistic Econ 101 style market where men are arbitrarily assigned as the "consumers" of sex and women as the "producers", …

Having a genital preference doesn’t equate to your sexual orientation, and those two things can combine in different ways. Some people may only be into one set, while for others, finding out what parts someone has may not affect the attraction they feel at all. This idea that “when it comes to dating, trans people are their assigned gender” doesn’t match up to real-world attractions. You’ll see this if you go on r/mypartneristrans — people whose partners are transitioning to a gender they’re not…

Dumbest shit I've ever seen. So there's no other way to feel relied on and be useful than "This woman needs A MAN, ANY MAN to use his manly strength to fend off physical attacks, and I happen to be that man"? There's no such thing as feeling valuable because people value what you, individually, bring to their lives? I mean, maybe for guys like this that's true. Also I know this is a dead horse with content like this, but it's so striking how he uses the word "man" normally, but seems to be aller…

That's not impossible at all. Almost all the women I know have at some point had a hookup or FWB situation with a partner who explicitly stated they weren't there for a relationship. In fact, many women I know (myself included) make it clear we're only looking for casual sex, and turn away prospective partners looking for romantic dating because we don't want to lead them on. It's not impossible to be honest; you just chose not to be.

Why would anyone even care about the age at which the average woman is at peak attractiveness relative to the average man's tastes? When I look at prospective partners I'm not thinking about that kind of thing. I care about how attractive they are, now, to me.

I'm a woman who's used those apps off and on over the years. I swipe right on about 30-50% of the men I see, and 80-90% of the women, and I still struggle to get matches that go anywhere (although that's not to say I get zero). Then again, I'm on there solely for hookups/FWB and I make that clear in my profile from the beginning, so my experience may not be representative of someone who's looking for romantic dating.

As a woman, it's more normalized for us to love babies and children, and to interact with ones we see in public. Whereas for men the same behavior is looked at with more suspicion. Something men have over women that isn't talked about a lot is more of a normalization of sexual rejection. When a man can't get laid (not like for years on end but just a fair amount of trying and failing), that sucks, but at least there's a narrative where that's normal. As a woman, the message you hear is that men …

As a cis woman I kind of relate, but to me it’s more about probabilities than values. The idea of somehow losing my clit in an accident is horrifying when I imagine it, but since it’s so much smaller than a penis, it seems vanishingly more unlikely that that would actually happen. So it probably wouldn’t be the first thing I’d check after an accident, but more because the possibility of such an injury would be slow to come to mind, not because it’s low priority. Also to your “half the human race…

I’ve realized that, when I go to a party/club type of situation with the explicit goal of hooking up, it tends to ruin my experience because all I’m thinking about is whether I’ll actually manage to get someone to sleep with me. Even afterwards, it often ends with me feeling like a failure/ugly because I couldn’t get laid despite trying — and even if I do hook up with someone, I still don’t have a fun night out to look back on because I was stressing the whole time about the outcome and whether …

Are you saying that, because she has a prestigious degree and is looking for a job that’s meaningful to her, it’s likely she’ll soon cut ties with her parents (and become an atheist to boot)? If so, why?

Who’s calling this sex-negative? In my experience, people who label themselves sex-positive tend to be the most open to and supportive of the idea of friends with benefits/fuckbuddies.

I agree with your whole post, except for the idea that this is a men vs. women distinction. The people who see communication as literal and straightforward may have a higher percent male than the people who see it as trying to accomplish goals through implication and subtext (frankly, I’m not even convinced this is true), but there are certainly plenty of women on both sides. I’m a woman with a very straightforward communication style, and I’ve had about equal trouble with men as with women who …
