This can be a cultural thing. For example I read somewhere in India it's considered polite to frequently break eye contact. But in some European countries not only do people lock eyes but they stand really close to you when talking. Also some people are just really intense when they talk to other people. I wouldn't put too much stock in this one thing.

So, started off with some non threatening questions so she doesn’t think I'm a creep. You are making a lot of assumptions about me based on almost no knowledge of me at all. I don't know myself what I would have done if I was more on the ball and was experienced with closing quickly. However I do know that I'm generally a pretty considerate and ethical guy so if I was more experienced in this area -- well, no, I probably still wouldn't have.

Oh man that is nuts. I remember going through a similar thing w/r/t a revelation about seizing the moment -- for me it was when I had some health issues in the mid 2000s. It's a long time ago though and the memory has faded -- so sometimes I don't carpe diem as much as I know I should. Yeah I was wondering about that as well -- whether the chemistry I felt was just because her guard was down. w/r/t guy code -- I ultimately didn't hit on her, I'm just asking about it here because I considered it. I'm pretty new to being single (got divorced recently) so this is essentially my first time being in this situation as a single person.
