As a guy, I like this comment a lot. Thank you.

Wow. This is beautiful.

The crux of the debate is not whether or not sexless men are implying female sexual activity should be regulated by the state. By that logic, illustrating examples of white privilege or male privilege heavily implies that those groups should also be regulated by the state. We might as well stop writing and speaking altogether to shield the world from our terrible, terrible observations and experiences. Perhaps you are projecting your fear of the authoritarian state onto men at a time in history …

Fair counter.

You are more than implying that fathers don’t value their children and would not be heartbroken to lose them to divorce. Simply based on how much time a fathers has to spend with his children. Yes, it is a loss. A huge loss. But fuck us, right? We’re just robots that work to pay bills.

Agreed. Anecdotes are anecdotes. I wouldn’t extrapolate the admin tasks at work to admin tasks at home, though. Pretty different contexts. I like your post, though, cool analysis!

Wow… that is a heartless thing to say.

Your prior, that wives handle the majority of administrative tasks at home, is not at all consistent with the marriages that I’ve personally seen.

Have to counter. I dated someone who was incredibly honest and open. She repeatedly told me she had dreams of a man she messaged on Instagram but never met, and thought of him when we had sex. Bless her heart, but both of those were crushing to hear. I do agree that physically fucking someone else leaves a deeper impact. We could dig into some really juicy archetype and narratives about why that is, get in way over our heads trying to figure that one out. Ownership, dominance, protection, mating…

I refuse to use these apps. Swiping through hundreds of faces while taking a shit is depressing as hell. It gamifies dating, and it is pure unfettered objectification of women at its worst.

Man… that is not where you cultivate meaningful relationships. If your modus operandi is getting laid and nothing more, then disregard.

Important distinction. Women are great and I’ll be the first to say I’m looking forward to giving my heart to a special someone. But putting anyone on a pedestal is a disservice to everyone involved.

yawn It’s not sarcasm. The “everything can be explained by society” argument is banal, overplayed, and myopic. It’s a hand-wavy, sanctimonious social science circle jerk that fails to recognize that human behavior is an emergent property operating on biological substrate. but how do we deal with it? Deal with what? The fake problem you just invented? I believe OP’s question was, at its core, “why doesn’t reality perfectly align with archetypes?” People are interested in understanding themselves …

TL;DR everything is social yawn… pretty easy to be right about everything when we blame society instead of hashing out the underlying mechanisms that precede society

I am quite innocent and shy, and above average in looks. Yet I face this problem often. Have heard it echoed throughout the years. That I’m a player. That I’m intimidating. I don’t do casual for my own valid reasons, but I couldn’t if I wanted to because it’s already assumed that I’m a man hoe and she’s just another notch in my belt.

Gonna be honest… you’re being reductive in all these sub-threads, breaking down and challenging every last line. What men are sharing is a large collection of corroborating experiences that they’ve had, experiences unique to their gender, experiences and perspectives that you are unlikely to ever uncover in your own life. They are not attacking you, they are not attacking women at large, there’s nothing for you to defend. These folks are sharing their experiences, identifying patterns, and build…

Dude… preach. I’m living off 55K in California and literally feel unworthy of dating, unfit to be a partner on that basis alone. I seriously bust my ass at work hoping it opens new opportunities, but hard work in and of itself does not equate to greater income. That feeling of inadequacy absolutely crushes me on a daily basis and… it’s more than just a feeling, it’s reality. I cannot simply think or feel my way out of it. This is my situation. I do not envy our resent women for this disparity in…

The average woman perceives 80% of men to be below average in appearance. So even if you’re right, the odds don’t look good.

It’s not about the money. It’s about the time required to make the money. Relationships consume time.

This hit the nail on the head for me, at least. There are a LOT of factors behind my decision not to date, but finances and career are #1. The economy is kicking my ass and all I can think about is escaping my generational financial incompetence.

The average woman does not have a physiological response to lack of sex. This is not true. We also tend to get dopamine and serotonin hits and general levels of satisfaction and mental fulfillment from many other aspects of non sexual intimacy: emotional intimacy, platonic physical affection, general comfort and closeness to others, etc. Just say it already… you think men don’t experience these things. You think their subjective experiences are blunted or inferior.

Well… the reasoning depends on who you ask. When you look in the mirror, do you think “Yeah I’d fuck me” or do you think “I’m pleased with what I see and happy with myself because of it”? Likely the latter. We are both physical and symbolic and nature, and we have only our subjective experiences to draw from. Ergo, we attribute our successes to the deeper meaning we’ve ascribed to the efforts that got us there. Whether it’s achieving fitness goals or career goals… doing it for anyone but ourselv…

The deleted comments above me disagree(d). Banishing attachment was stated as a goal. I was addressing the attachment/ego concept in isolation. Whether or not sex is coupled with attachment is an adjacent conversation. Personally, for me, I cannot decouple the two. That’s just a “me” thing. I would re-examine the sentiment, “Having relationships … with other people doesn’t automatically negate any other commitments”. Time and emotional energy are both limited resources.

I attempted to continue a relationship void of ego and attachment, once. She was a free spirit who couldn’t be tied down. I saw it as an opportunity for growth, as if it was this transcendental thing. The love was real and I was prepared to let her go at any moment. But banishing any shred of attachment inevitably led to me being apathetic about the relationship as a whole. If I couldn’t feel attachment to her, then what was I really getting out of the relationship? Sex and good conversation? Th…

I'm basically ruining my own relationship this way right now. Did constant dread game, resulted in her closing up and our trust in each other disolved (simply trust that the other will be kind, patient, etc... hypergamy was not a concern). Broke up with her yesterday, actually.

Maybe you're gay. But seriously, I've noticed the same thing. These traits come out of necessity.
