Also, Lokilost described nothing about the situation where the father wants it, the mother doesn't, and (one would think) the woman has no financial obligation.
This makes sense if the woman isn't obligated to care for the child either. I don't know what the laws are, but I'm guessing a woman who just gave birth who refused to accept her child would go to jail.
