Yes. Absolutely. In functioning societies with expansive social safety nets, women have the option to leave their lvm partner. That option does not exist for the vast majority of women in America. Their health insurance is tied to their husband; rents are often too high to live with only one wage earner; child care is usually too expensive to justify a woman working, because she is usually paid less; etc.
