OYS #12 - Stats: 52yrs, 6'0", 76.5kg, 16%BF (Navy); Lifting: (SL5x5) - DL 106kg, SQ 86Kg, Row 66kg, OHP 44kg; Read: NMMNG (x2), WISNIFG (x2), MMSLP, MAP; Horn's depressive and anxious wives post, PON & How to Talk to Anyone. u/thanatosau pointed out to me in response to my last OYS, that my insomnia would likely reduce as I worked on becoming more high-value. I have long suspected this to be the truth and even suggested in my first OYS that this is one of the reasons I wanted to go on this journ…

OYS #11 - Stats: 52yrs, 6'0", 76.5kg, 16%BF (Navy); Lifting: (SL5x5) - DL 104kg, SQ 85Kg, Row 65kg, OHP 44kg; I'm in a holding pattern at the moment until this latest bout of insomnia passes. I'm not trying to make any strides forward, just trying to hold things together. There have been some wins - I have remained in control of my emotions for instance. I am remaining patient and calm when tested by my young son and I am really pleased with how well I handled my GF's recent bout of anxiety, whi…

I have tried hard in the past to identify a pattern. There are some occasions where clearly there is something going on in my life that causes an underlying anxiety that may lead to a sleepless night, but other times, things are good and I go to bed feeling tired, with a calm mind and expecting just a normal nights sleep, but then sleep just won't come. I track food regularly and haven't seen a pattern there. It is a good point though, I haven't done it for a while and maybe it is worth trying a…

No, but the problem is getting to sleep, rather than waking up during the night. Sleep just doesn't come some nights.

Hi, yes, I take it nightly. I suspect it doesn't do anything, but I continue to take it in case it is helping.

It isn't an age thing for me, I've always struggled with it on and off. Have been to the Doctor's many times and frankly they've been useless. They immediately reach for the temporary drugs like zopiclone, which leave me zonked out and can be habit forming or they prescribe anti-depressents, which I don't want to take for sleep problems. I'm not currently depressed or particularly anxious. I have also done a sleep CBT course and have read a ridiculous number of books and papers on the subject. I…

Hey, who said anything about giving up and being average? Of course I'm not at the maximum potential for my age. Thanks for the link.

OYS #10 - Stats: 52yrs, 6'0", 76.5kg, 17%BF (Navy); Lifting: (SL5x5) - DL 104kg, SQ 82Kg, Row 64kg, (OHP 47kg; BP 62kg - slowly building back to these after de-load due to shoulder injury). Read: NMMNG (x2), WISNIFG (x2), MMSLP, MAP; Horn's depressive and anxious wives post. Reading: PON & How to Talk to Anyone. I nearly didn't post this week because I had insomnia again last night and I feel like shit and can barely think. Then I remembered what I said last week about seeing such challenges as …

Yeah, that's bugging me. I have stopped worrying about getting BF down as I want to put muscle mass on. Thing is, I am doing the sessions and putting in the work and I am definitely noticing strength increases and can visually see muscle gain over a long period, but the stats don't seem to change much. Well, they vary almost day to day - BF between 15% and 18% and Weight between 76-77Kg. I am clearly doing something wrong. Not enough protein and lack of sleep I think are issues. Back to tracking…

Agreed. I am not talking about acceptance of what you have to the point of stagnation. I don't believe that sort of nihilistic thinking is the path to happiness. Even if ultimately it is all meaningless, my view is I'm here, I have to do stuff, so I may as well do it well. My version of well is to strive to reach my potential and if possible, make it easier for my fellow travellers along the way. It is why I am here in MRP, though one of the things this place has taught me, is that well isn't as…

Read: NMMNG (x2), WISNIFG (x2), MMSLP, MAP; Horn's depressive and anxious wives post. Reading: PON & How to Talk to Anyone. I'm not sure which is cause and which is effect, but I have struggled this week with insomnia and anxiety. This seems to come out of nowhere every now and again. I am not feeling troubled by anything in pa…

Your comment is really helpful and I appreciate you taking the time to write it. Every now and again on this journey you get an insight into your own behaviour that leaves you astounded at what a retard you are capable of being and this is one of them for me. Thanks for helping solidify my thinking around this. It is also reassuring to hear that all teenagers are like that :)

Yeah, I know this really. I think her going off to Uni affected me more than I appreciated. Thanks for the reality check.

Actually, scratch my last comment. How about this: Family: I identified a covert contract this week with my daughter. She was homesick when she started university, which resulted in her been overtly affectionate. When she reverted back to the usual indifference, I was butt-hurt for a short while, before I recognised the covert contract and my need for validation. I reminded myself that I do what I do for my kids because I choose to and not for recognition or reward. This triggered some soul sear…

Yes, there was no need to comment on my LTR this week. It is just pointless filler. Thanks for pointing that out. Mostly focused on a third party. Here though, i was aiming for an analysis of how I view and react to my daughter with the purpose of identifying and eliminating my faulty thinking. I felt I realised something useful. Reading it back, I still believe the subject is me rather than her, but from your comment, I take it i'm not getting the balance right?

Thanks, that linked post is a timely dose of perspective. Still processing it, but I can see now that whilst I'm patting myself on the back for remaining calm under whatever crazy she's spilling, it isn't with the right mindset. There's still too much wanting to manage the drama away and being quietly annoyed and frustrated with her for being her. I care too much and no doubt that bleeds through. I'm just not going to radiate the strength and positive energy to help move her between emotions. Th…

OYS #1 Stats: 52yrs, 6'0", 78kg. Girlfriend of 3yrs, 2 kids -18yrs & 7yrs (both mine from previous) Physical: Bench 62kg, DL 100kg, SQ 60kg, Row 55kg, OHP 47kg. Reading: NMMNG; WISNIFG; loads of MRP posts - I tend to skim read and skip about. As a result I'm suffering from information overload. Started to go back through WISNIFG more slowly to digest. Started to also journal this week with the intention of more consistently noting behaviour and results. A little background: Discovered TRP after …
