I agree with you. How is this different from what I said? I am irritated that I am elevated to some undue status because of my gender. I would rather the interviewer hire me because I am qualified, not because I am a woman. Truly, this isn't fair to women in technology, either. Being a "female" tech isn't ever the same as just being a tech. If there aren't women who are speaking at the conference, so what. I was discussing rape with my boyfriend several days ago, and he remembered a time when something similar happened (alcohol was involved, a girl got him too drunk and dragged him off). When I was saddened to hear this and apologized to him that he had that experience, he shrugged it off like christophercolumbus did. I can't think of a female friend of mine who would react the same.
