The average kid costs $1134.26/mo ($245,000 in 2013 dollars to raise to 18). Child support from the average person doesn't cover that. Not that it should, but it's just not profitable to have children and then leech off the non-guardian parent. I also don't understand how the system creates a financial incentive for women to refuse visitation rights even in the short-run. Baby-sitting is more expensive than the amount of child support one would earn per those hours, so there's actually a financi…

How rich do you think the mother is/how much is child support if you think only 10% is spent on the kid? I used CA data for income and a child support calculator and the number seems pretty hard to abuse unless the mom's getting significant support from her family and friends.

What do you mean child support doesn't go to the kid-- are you upset that we're literally not giving a 3 year-old cash? Child support goes to the guardian who then spends money on the kid. There's literally not another way that could operate unless the person paying child support gives the money to the state and the guardian of the kid just gets coupons for diapers/formula/food. Which could work I guess but there's a shit ton of lost efficiency there.

There seems to be a lot of confusion who the child support is even for, which is odd given that the answer is in the name. The charming idea of 'financial abortion' plunges more of the next generation into childhood poverty. I say this as a man who enjoys his random flings: I don't give a shit about 'fairness' when it comes to men's reproductive rights. My thoughts are with the kid, not the father's discretionary income.

I still can't believe people actually think this, given our unemployment rate is about the level it was in the 1960's. A good talking point Misters bring up is the disposability of men. Being willing to risk Cheronobyl or a Triangle Shirt Factory disasters for an edge in an unprofitable market is pretty ugly. It's not red-tape that's holding back manufacturing, it's the Dornbusch-Fischer-Samuelson model of comparative advantage in labor/capital intensive markets putting very plainly that capital…

You know what's worse than working in a textile mill in Vietnam? Starving in Vietnam. Let's not pretend that job exports aren't positive affecting millions of foreign families just because outsourcing has a negative impact in the immediate for some Americans.

There aren't any. Departments aren't typically incentivized to help with others' bookkeeping. But, its easier to complain about non-issues than talk about the perceived disposability of black men, suicidal FTM's, or emotional stunting of children.

That's just not true. Not to mention the related issue of the state filing against a man to recoup welfare money given to the child's custodial mother. Especially this part. The State's judicial branch and entitlement programs are from different coffers, one.

They don't, regardless of what you're going to hear here. One, you'll need to have missed several payments. Two, the custodial parent will need to personally file against you for being 'in contempt of court.' Three, you either need to miss your contempt hearing (the majority of arrests are made here) or you lose your hearing by failing to provide proper justification for not paying. Inability to pay (job loss, unexpected expenses) is considered in-depth. We don't have debtors prisons...

Being gay is a sin male g-spot is located within the anus Yea, no homo, God. I call myself a (male) feminist but I still fight against things like Tender Years laws and I advocate for paternal leave. I'm in no ways unique. I don't like egalitarianism because there are no activist groups under that banner since it's purely an internet thing. People say 'feminism' is a bad title, and I might agree. After all, gendered terms just muddle everything for mankind.

I think misanthropic is a good word. Still though, chicken and egg-- he hated women for being 'unattainable' to him, and he hated the men who were successful. The root is in misogyny, since I don't think he'd have a problem with gay or asexual guys. Beyond just being a hateful little shit.

The child gets the money purely by a birthright, a spouse gets it purely by matrimony. Neither 'earned' it, which was your point. In the case of wills, yes, the money is given to specific parties, but if one passes away without one, the state 'does its best' to legally allocate the estate.

The term 'punching up' refers to playful mocking of a power majority. Cis-gendered is everyone who's gender and sexuality matches. The vast majority of people who say 'die cis scum' are 'cis scum.' One, 'women advocacy groups' are not synonymous with 'feminists.' Two, quoting your link: The Michigan legislation states that in a custody dispute the judge must presume that joint custody is in the "best interests of the child" and "should be ordered." To make any other decision, a judge must make findings why joint custody is not in the children's "best interest." This is a high legal standard that makes it very difficult for judges to award any other custody arrangement. It is also a departu…

Because women weren't allowed to serve in the military This isn't for the woman's benefit as it is to ensure that the child is taken care of. A quick search will also find that men who go to court for their kid win slightly more than half of the time. Women are often given the children without deliberation. This is fucked up due to gender expectations and is something modern feminists are trying to alleviate. Feminists are as much against single dads as they are stay-at-home dads. These laws wer…

'...Fucking hate transsexuals.' Except we don't, as TERFs (trans exclusionary radical feminists) are extremely rare and only pocketed to certain congregations. The basis of third-wave feminism (i.e modern feminism) revolves around the abolishment of set gender expectations, which includes identity. The obstacles of this are often attributed to 'the patriarchy' which is always misconstrued here as 'all men,' as if we assume that all males are privileged or actively oppressive. "Men's Rights" as the concept you understand originated in 1856. The complaint being that advances in women's rights were threats to men (go figure) and a collection of articles was published in Putnam's Magazine, a predecessor to the Atlantic Monthly. Attempting to stabilize a status quo that isn't conducive to gender equality isn't any points in the MRM's favor. What demands are made of MRM that feminism doesn't also get scrutinized under? SoJ tried to say that the common stereotype isn't that women are frail, but that they're valuable. He doesn't extend past that. Stoic doesn't really have much to go against. Here's the thing: It's hard to talk over here. If I'm a feminist, I must be a mouthpiece for Andrea Dworkin. If I'm a feminist, I don't care about male rape victims. If I'm a feminist, I hate women that raise children. If I'm a feminist, I rip dicks off and bleed through my eyes.

I really don't understand what goggles you're viewing this from. The metaphor he used was 'being raped is like getting hit by a car when crossing the street without looking.' This implies the majority of the blame on the victim by not following laid out 'rules.' Which is really fucked up when you put the context in. They're actually disgusted by sluts - they view sexually promiscuous (straight) women as traitors, as counter to their movement. haha, what the fuck. No, the point of a slut walk is just to protest the 'asking for it' defense. That's all there is to it. There's not a woman there that believes sex is evil, just that consent isn't implicit. And it's not like I'm aggressive about it or anything. I know, but part of the environment is that this happens a lot, so they do need to be wary of accepting help because it can be construed as acceptance of an advance. Repeat this a few times a year, it can get repetitious at best. My ex was CompSci. All it's saying is 1 in 72 men are raped by that specific definition of rape. Now whether it's as encompassing as it should be is really a backseat point since we're talking about rape statistics on women. More recent surveys that expand out the definitions of assault show that 1 in 6 men are victims. https://1in6.org/ Though this doesn't invalidate the frequency of women's. I wish it did. What's odd is that they could simply say there's a correlation between the level of the average woman's education and the state of affairs of that country as a whole. The better educated and better access to resources for women, the less unexpected kids brought into the world that add to resource division and less chance of a woman's path being inhibited. That's kind of the international women's rights mantra.

I'm actually myself put off a lot by this sub. The mass decrying of feminism leaks into slur-usage which leaks to sweeping generalizations of women. There will not be a feminist that disagrees that selective-service for men is sexist; however, what some may claim is that it is sexist, against women. That women were seen as weak and a liability in combat and thus barred from military roles. They may argue that family court statistics are warped by the reality that Couples often privately negotiat…

White, straight males are the norm put forth in media, are the norm in office-holding positions, and are by far the wealthiest on average. Obviously, money speaks. A trans black woman with a fortune will have more opportunities than a white man who lives under a box. But when you remove the variable of wealth, other things begin to arise. One study cited by Freakonomics shows that "traditionally black" names like Jamal and Tyrone on resumes received much less attention than "traditionally white"…

means men have no problems to deal with And thus, some feminists are victims themselves to cultural myopia. I will not pretend feminism or any form of social justice is an intellectual medal of honor and anyone who wears it is elevated to a perfect state of self-awareness. I'm a Biology student "by trade" and I've butt heads with a Gender Studies major I used to know back in high school many times. However, what we do agree on is that privilege is a reality. It is certainly deniable, but it show…

Well, as it's an ideology, self-proclamation is sort of the hitch to it. But I'll bite. Modern feminism is defined with the assumption of two things: Privilege can lead to cultural myopia, which is the failure to understand other perspectives because one is trapped in their own microcosm. The mis-attributed quote "Let them eat cake," by Marie Antoinette sums it up fairly well. Contrary to criticism against feminism, people born into a state of privilege such as the group I belong to, are not con…

The video consisted of a guy trying to ignore a violent angry woman who wouldn't let him be. What? She got near the TV and then he cornered her and physically intimidated her by getting in her space and kicking the TV. You people are fucked up.

No they didn't. They were never classified as a hate group by SPLC, simply as an outlet of misogyny, and that had never been redacted. Reddit: Mens Rights A “subreddit” of the user-generated news site Reddit, this forum describes itself as a “place for people who feel that men are currently being disadvantaged by society.” While it presents itself as a home for men seeking equality, it is notable for the anger it shows toward any program designed to help women. It also trafficks in various consp…

It's a shame when those people are actually called an amalgamation of hate and misogyny by the SPLC, but take what you can get, right?

Because eagle librarians are a dressed up term that claim to stand for equal rights but assume we're already there in a lot of aspects much too prematurely. I respect that this isn't a place for my soapbox, though for you to claim that the epitome of feminism is an acknowledge that there is still ground to aspire for, color me guilty.

I don't want to go into a pissing contest for low-hanging fruit. There are extremists within feminism. I could defend their POV because I understand the ideology, but it doesn't represent mainstream, moderate feminism. What I quoted above does. Eagle librarians deny too much current patriarchy, so I cannot in good conscience claim the title.

It's not entirely societal in the sense that changing social stigmas won't have direct effects. I addressed though why it was still somewhat societal in the last part of your quote. Ultimately though change needs to be done to prison systems to address assault within prisons. The difference between rape that happens in prison and what happens outside is that prison rape is often forced or forms of intimidation are used. It's 'textbook,' almost. Outside the walls though, rape can take many forms,…

When I was a first aid administrator in Occupy: Seattle a year ago, there were certainly people who fell under that umbrella with vastly different thoughts. I believed that wealth disparity was such an issue that government interference was necessary, and I could give you a full dissertation on causes and solutions. At the same time, the folks I was often dousing in milk and apple vinegar had stances much more anarchic. It certainly made for a camp of odd bedfellows, but ultimately it helped me …

Hey guys, just stopping in. There are a few misconceptions (or at least so I see) about feminism and what is a feminist ideal, so let me spread the gospel a bit here. Feminism does not support women violence. In fact, what makes it seemingly permissible in society is the stereotype that women are weak and therefore their actions carry less weight. Feminists do not like this stereotype and actually advocate against it. When we dislike domestic abuse, we generally do so not from a feminist stand-p…

Probably refers to the concept of rape education; feminists are very against the idea of victim-oriented instruction, which tells women to dress more modestly and be more wary around their male peers. Let's avoid that debate since I'm not in the right place for the idea. But still, her point is that most preventative cases put the responsibility on women to be wary at all costs among men, and that's certainly not right.

You also ran this story. http://www.newuniversity.org/2012/10/opinion/snark-v-snark-religion/ Do you believe in God? The soul? The positive and empathic teachings of Jesus Christ or the Buddha? Well, if you do, then fuck you. You’re an oppressor. That’s right, you read that right, you ignorant Neanderthal. You believe in sky spirits and ghost bodies? What, have you never paid attention in science class? Because anyone who’s ever opened a Biology or Physics textbook should be well aware that the …

Ehh, I feel like the assumption that all women are seeking to solicit child support from men they date is kinda sexist.
