So you facepalm and walk away...unsure of how people could be THIS far off base. Describes my reaction to this submittal exactly.

Wow. You actually didn't read that. You read one sentence and took it out of context. Read the last sentence quoted. You are quite possibly the most bullheadedly blind person I have ever had the displeasure of debating with. Your ability and willingness to ignore things that contradict your view is incredible. lol, welcome to /mensrights

There are laws in place in some states that even an allegation of rape by a woman means a man looses his rights to his biological child. There lots of terrible laws, and lots of terrible interpretations of laws. So far as I can tell, however, this has nothing to do with the linked post. This is a situation in which an alleged rapist is coercing her alleged rape victim into assuming responsibilities without any rights. Loosing her rights to her rape-baby isn't even on the table. Perhaps you shoul…

Ugh. No she doesn't. I hope, of course, that every rape victim presses charges against the attacker and removes any possibility that a child would end up being raised by a criminal. If a woman is proved to have raped the man that fathered her child, I'd think that it'd be highly unlikely that she would be awarded custody. The linked case involves an alleged rape, not one that was ever prosecuted/legally proven. I find it highly hypocritical of most of the posters in this thread that you'd want t…

When I see an argument worth refuting, I'll refute it. Until then, I'll restate what I said previously in terms that even you can understand: The trivialization of women's concerns via appeal to sexual nature has a long history in our society, and is one of many ways women have been traditionally marginalized. I'll link to this, because I'm sure you're not informed - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hysteria. Such trivialization, with the complete lack of any scientific basis behind it, can only ari…

Your problem is in the dilution of words that are supposed to have strength behind them; sorry man, words mean what they maen \shrugs "misogyny" is the new race-card. lol, nah - calling "the race-card" is the new "race-card."

they show a "hatred of women." Put it this way. If I were to comment on a post here about a guy that was complaining about women with a comment like the following: "Stop bitching; you just need to get laid." You don't think you/other people would call that misandry? Please. At least acknowledge your bias - I have a feeling your bar for "misogynistic" is unreasonably high.

I'm not an mra. standard mra line is that misogyny isn't tolerated on your subreddit. i was just laughing at the contradiction between the mra-perceived reality and what's really the case. not really that big of a deal, though - a minor lulz at best.

Can't call out something for misogyny when it's not misogynistic. . Do you know what misogyny means? here, i'll help: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misogyny

I don't understand how someone could have that opinion, but I don't understand much about MRAs. That's the only reason I post here - know your enemy, and all that. Personally, I put /MR on the same level as www.reddit.com/r/whiterights - bonus points, see the "see also" sidebar.

if you are put off in a community which is not created for your interests, I thought this community was created for everybody's interests? Also, it doesn't bode well for your demonstration of good faith that you ask questions: a woman would feel unwelcome why? that i've already answered: with responses like these

Hopefully not. I wasn't trolling - the fact that you think I was speaks volumes about your ignorance about the issue of hompohobia - which goes a long way towards explaining why you're posting in this subreddit, by the way. Peace, ass.

Again, you demonstrate your ignorance of what homophobia means. You don't need to be "self hating" to reinforce cultural institutions of oppression and domination. i'm using it as a descriptor, reinforcing my opinion that the poster is a lesbian and likely has alternative reasons for trolling this subreddit. not as a slur. Lol. Yes, only lesbians could take issue with this subreddit. Also Lol that you weren't using it as a pejorative. I thought we were moving on? I'm ready to stop clicking on my…

It is when you use it as a slur. Also, your idea that a bisexual can't be homophobic shows that you don't really understand the concept of "homophobia." But yes indeed - moving on.

Financial abortions are the most fair way to resolve some of the current inequalities. We disagree. I think "financial abortions" would do far more harm than good. We also disagree on just about every other point in your post, haha. That's cool, though - I understand where I'm posting, and through talking with you and other MRAs in this thread, I feel like I've gotten a better idea of you guys' arguments and thought processes (incidentally, it's really interesting how many of you guys link to th…

Of course it's clear to you that that's been your argument the entire time. To somebody that doesn't share your disconnection with reality, however, your post is a confusing word salad. Like I said, though, even after you decoded it, the point's worthless. Happy trails.

Honestly, I think I'm done. I don't think you're even willing to change your mind...and if you're not, then why the fuck should I waste my time trying to convince you of anything? Likewise. You seem to be one of the more reasonable MRAs, so I've been willing to drag this out this far, but I can see we simply don't see the world the same way. Ah well. Happy trails!

You moved it around some. My response is therefore out of order, but still largely addresses what you've said. Here's the only real part I see you've added: At all steps after conception, the woman, has a choice, at all steps after conception, the man has none. Is this an /MR talking point? In any case, please see my response here: http://www.reddit.com/r/MensRights/comments/jashx/alabama_cops_lure_deadbeats_into_custody_with/c2arnxr TLDR: Safe haven laws are bullshit. Are you saying that just because you consented to sex, you also consented being forced to have your child carried to term and being forced to take care of it? Men don't get to decide whether or not a woman is going to have an abortion. Not only is this morally just, it's known condition of consenting to sexual contact. Rick Santorum or Michele Bachmann? You got that flipped around, bro - I'm not the one arguing that men should have any control over what what happens in a woman's body. Also you o…

After semen enters the vagina, women have all the choice and none of the responsibility. See! I knew I could draw an actual argument out of you! Too bad it's terrible. For all your hubris, this is pretty disappointing :-/ I mean the disconnect with reality implied by this: none of the responsibility. No wonder I couldn't make sense of what you said before!

A robbery may result from you walking down the wrong street. Just because something may happen, doesn't mean you're consenting to it...that's not how consent works (if it were, we would automatically be considered to have consented to anything that may happen and no one could ever be considered to have been victimized). Are you trolling me? Pregnancy is a pretty clear and direct consequence of having sex. If one person is intoxicated or of a diminished mental capacity, it is held that a contract…

This is what the poster said: the 13th Amendment outlaws child support and any other involuntary servitude. Is child support involuntary servitude? I think the very idea is ridiculous. How can it be involuntary, unless there was rape involved with the conception of the child? (Conceptions resulting from the rape of a male, as I mentioned to another poster in this thread, is a vanishingly small amount of overall conceptions - please feel free to provide data otherwise, however). Hence until they …

Getting sent to jail for nonpayment is one of the things that should be reformed about child support. We agree about this. You shouldn't be sent to jail, necessarily (let's not forget that child neglect is a criminal offense, after all, and just because the child is not in your custody doesn't mean you're not responsible for its wellbeing). There is much to reformed. However, the poster I replied to said that child support is "involuntary servitude" and prohibited under the 13th amedment. Can we…

I think you'll find very very few people that disagree with you on that point, a few activist judges aside. Can we agree, however, that characterizing male child support of children they've consensually fathered (doubtless 99.9% of pregnancies) as "involuntary servitude" is ridiculous? That was, after all, my original point.

Uninterested in discussing facts? More interested in emotional rhetoric and ignoring differing viewpoints? Typical MRA.
/r/MensRights08/08/11 12:55 AM

In any case (as I think you would agree), it's hardly a prevalent enough problem to warrant a full-scale overhaul of the child support system under the guise of eliminating "involuntary servitude."

Lol, that's a pretty sad way to get out of a bad joke and incomprehensible point. Typical MRA.

and she has not been charged with any crime. Can you show me the case law that shows men are responsible for the children they fathered as the result of nonconsensual sex? The case you linked doesn't involve any legally-proven rape - the legally proven part would obviously be important child-support purposes. edit: the article mentions only one other case that's even remotely similar, and involved a single judge's decision, not any laws or precedent. In that case as well, i'd be curious about wh…

She's not consenting to parenthood; She (and the man she's sleeping with) is consenting to the following: A child may result from the sexual contact. If the child is not A) Aborted B) Given up for adoption C) Given up under safe haven laws Both parents are responsible for the child for next 18 years. That is the contract you enter into whenever you engage in sexual contact. I don't see how this is unfair or confusing. They have unequal amounts of control in the A) B) C) options, of course, but t…

When a woman has sex, is she consenting to parenthood? She's consenting to the consequences of parenthood if the baby is carried to term. And I agree with that, but why shouldn't the bodily autonomy argument be valid when applied to men as well? Men don't carry pregnancies. they've shown neither to be forms of consent which are legally binding. Eh? Seems like they're forms of consent that are legally binding unless you either A) Abort B) Give up baby under safe haven C) Give up baby for adoption…

sex is not consent to parenthood really? why on earth not? unless there's a situation where a woman lies to man about being on birth control (which i'd imagine is a vanishingly small percentage of overall pregnancies, and a slightly larger, yet still extremely small, percentage of accidental pregnancies - and besides, if a man is truly worried, he can always choose to wear a condom, or not have sex in the first place), consent to sex automatically implies consent to consequences. one of those co…

Lol, a new asshat challenges! I think posters in this subreddit have many things in common (the whole "MRA" thing is laughable outside of this community, by the way). Misogyny is often, though not always, one of these things. In any case, if the fact that i'm unwilling to take time out of my life to trawl through a couple of /mensrights threads to provide you with examples of the misogyny rampant in this forum means (to you) that I concede the point, consider it conceded. If you don't think that this subreddit attracts a vocal, tolerated, misogynist crowd (moreso than most subreddits on this site), then we have so fundamental a difference in perception that there's nothing else to talk about here. Nah, not everybody. But there sure does seem to be an awful lot of it around here! (witness the comment referenced by the post you initially replied to). If you'll look carefully at that post, actually, you'll see where you stretched "I have no idea why anyone says..." into the statement "every poster on /mensrights is a misogynist". We call this a "strawman," and what you've demonstrated to be "hypersenstivity." Shakespeare had a pretty good line about this. Something about a lady, protesting, …
