I'm left of center. And ever since my first week of college in the mid 1980s I've been confronted with the evils of everything I am: white, American, straight, male, Christian. I gotta say that a LOT of the criticism of the patriarchy is spot on. I'll give it that. But to angrily dismiss the suffering caused by patriarchical systems to men and to deny that the system opens some doors for women that it shuts to men is bad faith stuff.

There are actually people (Andrea Dworkin comes to mind) out there who claim that any and all sex between a man and a woman is rape. That there is no such thing as consent. All sexual activity is a man raping a woman. So it is not hard to believe that if any alcohol was involved there are even more people out there who believe that consent is impossible.

Normally I find this sub and far too much of the Men's Right Movement merely misogynistic whininess. But this guy has a valid point here.

To people with privilege, any moves towards equality are seen as a threat. This is why articles like the one referenced are so screwed up. To these people giving fathers equal rights is causing a freakout like giving black people basic human rights freaks out white supremacists.

You're right on this one. This woman was toxic and selfish from the get go but he wouldn't listen to anyone who warned him. But she was buttering him up with affection and sex which stopped the minute he signed the marriage license. You'd think that if a marriage license is a legal contract that someone lying as they enter into it would be grounds for annulment of the contract. Too hard to prove, I suppose.

I have no scientific data to back me up on this, but I believe it's women who change and it's men who stay consistently the same. And this is the crux of many marriage problems. Women want men to change and men want women to stay the same and that causes frustration and resentment in both parties. The key, it seems, is to change and grow together.

My brother was cheated on by his wife. She is an entitled princess with no education, no skills and utterly immature. Throughout the marriage she always used the word "my" whenever talking about shared assets..."my house", "my kitchen", etc. Whenever it was a liability it was "your"..."your damn cat", "your repair bill", etc. She worked but it was always unskilled, low wage office work and spent every cent she made on herself never once contributing to the bills. It was "her" money. Still, my br…

Don't worry about her. She'll land on her feet with a high paying gig at FoxNews. Seems like their type.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
