i know what you mean, and no you are not wrong. misandry typically goes hand in hand with gender essentialism which easily slips into transphobia and pseudoscience and all that other shit. basically, i think it’s a product of lingering subconscious bias. i’m sorry these people you liked said that :( i don’t think it makes them immediately bad people or negates their other beliefs, it just means they have more internal work to do than they or you realised. i do think you should bring it up, even …

“like feminism believe that gender equality can only be attained by “Smashing the patriarchy” which I think this sub knows it’s just silly” new to this sub, why is it silly? (genuine question, i haven’t heard this take before :))

i think my message is being very misinterpreted here, because i agree with you on this. when i spoke about the reasons misandry is a thing, i was intending to express that i do not believe people who think that way are bad people despite believing those actions are harmful, because i wanted to be clear that this belief exists alongside my feminism. it was more of a secondary clarification to my main point, which was that yes, collective punishment benefits no one. in this case, i was referring s…

> “It's like they want to paint it in such a way that even superficial issues that affect men are taken more seriously than the worst issues that affect women” yes, i agree that that seems to be the message they’re going for. > “to... I don't know, stir up more hatred towards men because they have it too good? It frames it such that to progress for women, we have to tear men down to where they belong” i don’t think it’s about tearing men down in order to achieve progress for women per se, i thin…

are you wildly misinterpreting what i meant by that or do you genuinely believe oppression of women never existed because i’m struggling to comprehend that

ah, i apologise if that’s how it came across. my original comment was in response to OP who was only talking about hurt feelings so that’s what i focused on. i was not intending to justify bad treatment in the name of feminism at all, simply offering an explanation for why it happens and why i still empathise with people who do “man hate,” but i’m very much still of the opinion that it does harm. my intention there was to make it clear i was not coming from a place of disdain for women just beca…

nuance, dude. women were oppressed, ergo want to escape oppression, ergo will sometimes project trauma from a wider source onto an individual who has not done anything to warrant it. i was providing context as to why misandry is a thing, and saying i disagree with it. i realise that may not have come across in the part you’re quoting. the use of “as a whole” vs “individual actions” was deliberate. i was saying the individual should not be prosecuted for the actions of the system.

why do people keep thinking everything is personal when we’re talking about systemic issues jesus christ. blaming you specifically for things you never did being unreasonable is my fucking point 😭 i was on your side 😭 i was advocating for empathy for men 😭 threw in a couple clarifiers to make it clear i was not hating on women and that’s all anyone’s focusing on. I WAS ON YOUR SIDE

dude, i have no idea what happened to you. i have no idea what you think im excusing. my original comment was talking op, not you. clearly nothing i’m saying is getting through to you so end of discussion seems best. i beg you to learn to make space for nuance.

okay, i really do want to have a proper discussion here so i’d ask that you try to talk to me like a human being as well. i’m getting the sense you’ve misunderstood my point and attributed it to your own specific experience when i was responding to the original poster who was talking about a different situation. what do you mean by abuse /gen? i was under the impression we’re talking about general statements of dislike that have no material consequences, but i think you’re talking about somethin…

what on earth is happening here 😭 my entire point is that men AS A WHOLE have oppressed women for centuries which led to a general caution of every man regardless of individual actions. did you read my comment past just the parts at the beginning that you didn’t like? i quite literally said you do not deserve retaliation 😭 i quite literally said it’s understandable to feel hurt by negative blanket statements about men 😭 this is a really odd response. i’m sorry you went through what you did but t…

i very much understand where misandry and man hating comes from, i feel like it’s a predictable reaction to oppression to generalise the group who are oppressing you, but i do think it can be rather counterproductive and damaging. i’m not sure if you’re familiar with the concept of gender essentialism, but it’s the idea that men and women have “inherent” traits, often used by radical feminists. the radfem version of it is stuff like men being inherently violent and selfish and women being inhere…
